@mefiman asked: Me after seeing the English translation of Toriyama's interview on Twitter: Between glad that Gohan's finally getting recognition, into the spotlight as he deserves and his reverence of Piccolo (and vice versa) and OUTRIGHT TRIGGERED, ANGRY OF THE PART "TO GOHAN, A MASTER WHO LOVES HIM MORE THAN HIS FATHER, GOKU". WTH TORIYAMA, YOU'RE DOING GOKU SO DIRTY!!!! 💢💢💢
P.S.: Thanks for liking my retweet and joint rant of your post!
Your recent post regarding Toriyama's interview about the movie was ABSOLUTE SPOT ON! I TOTALLY AGREE ON THAT AND I LOVE YOU FOR IT.
[OH THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY MY REACTION. I’m absolutely ecstatic that Gohan an Piccolo are getting the spotlight (if not a little terrified of how they’re going to mess it up). And holy shit that translation is sooo much worse and more telling than the one I saw here, which SUGGESTED IT rather than outright SAID it:
LIKE this was bad enough but that translation you put up is just BLATANTLY furthering the stupid ass narrative that Goku is a bad dad and Gohan thinks less of him than Piccolo, which is absolutely NOT true and never was in Z. Ever.
It makes zero damn sense and I’m sick of not only the fandom furthering it but the WRITERS now going along with it too. BLATANTLY. Like I’m sorry but if Toriyama wanted it to seem like Gohan hated Goku, he should have written in that way in Z. Not made the kid revere his father his whole life. And same with the idea that Goku doesn’t give a shit about his family. That ISN’T what we got throughout Z and it’s dumb as hell to push it and incorporate it now.
This is just more evidence that Super’s writing is literally just for the fanservice since the “Goku bad dad/Gohan hates him” narrative became so popular rather than any REAL thought to proper progression of the series. I know I’ve said and known that Super was literally just a giant cash grab for a long time, but this is probably the most definite evidence of it.]
