MEGA DUNSPARCE

aka slightly bigger dunsparce with teeth and more spikes (tm)

Have you ever looked at a Pokemon and wondered in disbelief why it doesn’t have an evolution? For me, one of those Pokemon has always been Dunsparce. It has a rather cute, sheepish-looking design that can be upgraded in lots of different ways - offensively, defensively or both. Since the trend has been to bestow these Pokemon with Mega Evolutions, here is my idea to turn Dunsparce from a long-forgotten Pokemon to an OU beast that is capable of great things in battle. 

Below are proposed stats of my idea for Mega Dunsparce. Next to each stat you will find a number in parenthesis that indicates how much has the stat increased (or decreased) as a result of Mega Evolution. 

HP: 100 Attack: 130 (+60) Defense: 70 Sp.Atk: 35 (-30) Sp.Def: 70 (+05) Speed: 110 (+65)

Now we're talking. Base 130 Attack paired with 110 Speed and healthy 100/70/70 bulk allows this Pokemon to dish out hits effectively and take them reasonably well. As far as typing goes, I've decided to make Mega Dunsparce a Normal/Dragon type, which is not only fitting for its new design but also unique among all other Pokemon, which makes our little friend here quite special. This typing gives it resistances to Fire, Grass, Water, Electric as well as an immunity to Ghost. As far as abilities go, we all know that an ability can make or break a Pokemon. Thus, keeping in theme with Dunsparce's original ability, Serene Grace, I've decided to give it Magic Guard. Now, instead of good things happening more often for Dunsparce, bad things just don't happen to it at all! Magic Guard protects it from move recoil, entry hazard damage, burn and poison damage along with any other damage caused by anything other than opponent's attacks. With great increase in the correct stats, new typing and a great ability, little Land Snake can finally be Land Snake King - no longer a laughing stock, but an actual competitor able to face off against the best.

Let us now see at a sample moveset for Mega Dunsparce:

Offensive Sweeper (Land Snake King)

Dunsparcite - Adamant/Jolly - 4 HP / 252 ATK / 252 SPE

• Double-Edge

• Outrage

• Wild Charge

• Earthquake

This moveset, a sure standard for Mega Dunsparce, showcases everything good with this Pokemon. Magic Guard allows it to fire STAB Double-Edges and powerful Wild Charges without receiving recoil. Outrage is there to take care of opposing Dragon-types and Earthquake serves as a nice deterrent against all those Steel-types looking to counter our Normal/Dragon combination. While slow before Mega Evolving, Dunsparce can retaliate soon after, demonstrating true terror of a 100% accurate move with 120 base power (180 after STAB) coming from 130 base Attack. As far as your other options go, you can always consider Iron Tail to deal with Fairy-type Pokemon, but the fact that it's rather inaccurate (75% accuracy) and the fact that Double-Edge will leave a considerable dent or cause an outright knock out is enough to make most of them think twice before switching in. Protect is also there to use on your first turn so you don't have to take a hit before Mega Evolving, but this makes you drop a move in your moveset. If you absolutely don't want it to get hit, drop Wild Charge, as Double-Edge/Outrage/Earthquake can deal with most Pokemon very well.

I think you can agree with me that this little Pokemon has some true potential with this Mega Evolution and I for one would be very happy to see it become an elegant Dragon-type with a rather unique and timeless design. Its newfangled power paired with its good bulk and lots of movepool choices will make it into an unpredictable Pokemon and one I would really love to use.
