MEGA MAN (1994) TURNS 30 TODAY!!!!

As a Mega Man Fictionkin, this is a HUGE day! I've got the day off work too— more of a happy coincidence than anything. But boy, is it a happy one.

(A stupid little doodle I did for the occasion— he totally would've done this. And then we would've had a food fight with whatever remained of the cake. I can imagine it so vividly, I wonder if it actually happened.)

Truly wild how different the approach was to the robot master designs in the few short years between Captain N: The Game Master and Mega Man's own series. Something tells me the Captain N team were not given the same access to the character concept art that the Mega Man team clearly was, and they took whatever creative liberties they had to in order to get the point across.

I'm sure most people will agree that giving the bots a more consistent and uniform design was overall a better aesthetic choice, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't love the utterly deranged Captain N designs just as much!

One thing I don't think we appreciate enough about old "bad" video game to cartoon adaptations is just how wild the sheer concept of these cartoons is nowadays. As a kid with no access to The Internet and with no idea what The Source Material ever looked like, it was already kind of mind-blowing seeing characters from a video game expanded from little pixelly Guys In A Video Game into fully-formed cartoons. These were no longer just enemies for Mega Man to shoot and dodge, now they had voices and mannerisms and frequently got put in Situations. In an era before "extended universes" were the corporate-driven juggernaut they are today, this alone was absolutely BUCK WILD to behold.
