They were supposed to be studying and, hey, all things considered, Hikari definitely was— it was just hard to continue doing so when there wasn’t much help coming from the “other party,” a trainer from Kalos that she’d only had the (mis?)fortune of meeting due to a shared class and a somewhat unreasonable choice of teacher-dictated partners.
She was sure he was a nice guy, really, or at least that he tried to be, but his absentmindedness wasn’t going to kill only her nerves, but also her grade if he didn’t start to pay more attention to the work and not just on chewing his pen— speaking of which, that habit in particular had been going on for far too long and, before she could even stop herself, she was opening her mouth to snap in the calmest way you can actually snap, “Can you stop biting your pen, please?”
"Oh, what? Oh, wait, I’m so sorry," Calem seemed to come back to Earth upon hearing her request, but the end of his sentence is what made Hikari decide that, no matter how nice he was, one of them was going to die by the end of this study date: "I must have grabbed your pen by accident sometime and I just wasn’t thinking and— oh my god, I’m sorry, I’ll replace it."
