so we all agree that toji has a camcorder full of mamagumi right? just so he could remember her in case something happened, and lo and behold that something did happen? right?

toji thoughts .... i think it's such a bittersweet moment. the day that megumi was born was also the day that mamagumi died. and i think toji was so unsure if he should even be a father towards megumi. i mean, he SHOULD but he also can't. not because he doesn't acknowledge megumi as his son, it's more like toji doesn't acknowledge himself as megumi's father.

and i don't know .......... i've already talked about this but i feel like, somehow, tsumiki is similar to mamagumi.

megumi who finds tsumiki too kind for this world, too understanding for her own good. and mamagumi showing kindness to toji, who's the only ever person that understood toji.

toji coming home to megumi and tsumiki, seeing how tsumiki tends to megumi very carefully because she loves her dear brother so much

he'd just stare at them. reminiscing his times with mamagumi. how he'll never have that moment of happiness again because she's dead. gone.

and he left the house after.

thinking of it now... since toji is obviously mentally unwell, it makes me wonder if he's passively suicidal. he thought of dying, maybe. but he never acted on it. the thought lingers in the back of his mind... it dissipates when he's distracted—but how often are his distrations, anyway?

I love Megumi’s mom so much, she’s so cool! She’s this random lady that changed this man’s life, taught him how to love, and then he passed that on to his son after she passed. She even took the Zenin name, based on the Zenin family tree. How special was she that Toji gave her his name 😭💕 Tsumiki’s mom deserves all the hate Toji gets, because she took the result of that love, Megumi, and left him for dead for MONEY!!! The two wives represent love and selfishness, and I miss MegumiMama.

I love the headcanon that Megumi's mother's name was also Megumi

But I also love the idea of the Kanji not being the same. Megumi (child) is 恵, meaning blessing, blessed, grace. What are some of the options left ?:

恵美: first kanji is the same, second kanji means "beautiful"

愛: love

幸 (this one is rarer I think but it's the one i prefer): good fortune, happiness, blessing

The can all be pronounced "Megumi" (as a name) because of... Japanese name rules which allow you to.. basically do what you want

But I mostly love this headcanon because it leads to one I find even greater:

i feel like toji knows how to cook but like basic meals at most but he defs can learn just give him youtube or a recipe book and hes good i feel like when toji and mamagumi lived together, toji helps her around and tries to cook for her too .... theyre so so so so DEAR TO me .... <\3 oahhhuhjjajjhhhhh....

toji would wake up real early to cook for her and megumi becauseeeeeeeee !!!! he feels like hes not contributing much (heres the self hatred) and when they all eat together mamagumi shows her appreciwtion like shes all smile and happy munching and his heart thumps so loudddd !!!!!!!!!! my God. he loves her so much. megumi pointing out toji's blushing cheeks and ears as he chew his food (mouth very very full)

So I was rewatching some Clannad scenes (mostly "After Story") (yes. I cried again. People who know this anime understand why) and I thought to myself : "that's a nice healthy romance with a cute child even if MC's life pretty much sucks"

You know what's a nice healthy romance ? Toji and megumimama

You know what's a cute child ? Megumi

So yeah, Clannad AU w/ them

people still think that megumimama and tsumiki's mom are the same person and that tells you a lot about their comprehension skills

toji married megumimama, and they had megumi. both toji and megumi had the last name "zen'in".

megumimama died, and toji lost it. he married his second wife, tsumiki's mom. both he and megumi legally changed their names to fushiguro. NO he didn't change his name for his wife because he loved her, he changed it because he wanted to distance both himself and megumi from the zen'in clan. at that point in his life, himself and megumi were the only people he cared about.
