meizarya if that's cool! mei visiting russia would b cool! uhh.. if u can incorperate this: zarya picking her up at leadt once?
“It’s so beautiful here!” Mei said, gasping, her hands clasped together as she spun around to take in the view.
Zarya watched her in silence, amused. They were in the old part of Zarya’s home town, an early and cold Sunday morning, and almost no one else was outside. It had snowed during the night and everything was crisp and clear, covered in white. Icicles hung from every corner and Zarya had to catch Mei from slipping more than once during their early walk. It was very cold, but both of them were used to it.
“I can’t believe I’ve never been to Russia before”, Mei continued, happily chatting away as they walked through the empty streets. “I visited Finland with my parents when I was young but we never thought of going east. Our journey continued over the Norwegian fjords and then we took a boat to - “
Only half listening, still smiling slightly, Zarya took in the sights around her. She had missed the town, its people, even the weather. She liked the way the cold made her focus, her attention sharp and the need for constant physical movement to keep the chill at bay. The Watchpoint on Gibraltar was nice enough, but she found that the heat made her drowsy and slow.
Her parents had suggested they come over to visit, and Zarya had happily agreed, now that things had calmed down a bit around the recall of Overwatch. It turned out her parents had missed her a lot as well, she being an only child and having been away for too long. To Zarya’s delight, she had found that they really seemed to genuinely like Mei, and the feeling appeared to be mutual. Mei told them about all her adventures, and Zarya’s parents showed old photos of her as a kid, back when she had been a skinny blonde little thing, which made Mei laugh.
“- always thought I had a good hand with animals, but those horses were incredibly stubborn. The landscape was beautiful, though”, Mei said, sighing wistfully.
They rounded a corner and came out onto a open square where a few early birds were already setting up stalls for the weekly Sunday market. At the other end of the square, an old church towered above; a red brick building with colorful domes and countless spires, windows and arches. The sun was coming up behind it, making everything shimmer and shine.
“Oohh wow, it’s so prett-ah!”
Mei took a step forward and slipped on a patch of ice, momentarily losing her balance and wobbling dangerously. Zarya was instantly by her side, wrapping her arms around her and steadying her. Mei’s cheeks were already red from the cold, but Zarya could see the color deepening slightly and took the opportunity to press a kiss against them.
“Ah, thank you”, Mei said, smiling sweetly. She leaned into Zarya’s embrace a bit.
“You know what else is pretty?” Zarya wondered, smirking. Mei snickered and squirmed a little, but got nowhere, trapped in Zarya’s strong arms. She looked up at Zarya.
“Hm, you?” Mei said, a mischievous glint in her eyes. Zarya couldn’t help but grin, tightening her hold on Mei and lifting her up, making her yelp and giggle, delighted.
“Not as pretty as you”, Zarya said. Mei looked pleased, and leaned in closer to press a kiss against Zarya’s lips.
