I've been working on my solo show script ( 4 weeks today til opening night!!) n Gomens fic as my creative palate cleanser (4.6k words of smut and fluff and angst AND COUNTING) and honestly it's a winning combo.
Developing this act each night on stage at the Wonderland Spiegeltent was the most fun I’ve ever had on stage, even with the injury I ended up with. I can’t wait to push this act further in 2018, and begin work on a couple more projects.
Heads up! This is happening in 3 WEEKS! And! There will be a new monster!!! Yes, that’s right, Wat is getting a new sibling. I’ll be sharing the making process of this new, yet-to-be-named monster on my instagram @elijatude Artist statement/description:
I AM A MONSTER – and you can be, too.
Monsters have always been a way for us to categorize others. In 2013, Elija Montgomery created I AM A MONSTER: a photo essay of a monster’s life, and his underlying humanity. These six photos highlighted our similarities by exposing them as our assumption of difference. Building on this work, Montgomery now invites you to become the monster. This interactive performance piece welcomes the public to don a ‘monster character’ and sit for a portrait. While this guise may cover the face, participants will still find themselves recognizable. This piece explores identity, individuality, and being different while belonging to a greater whole. I AM A MONSTER – and you can be, too is the next chapter in Montgomery’s monstrous body of work.
Announcing Bethany Griffiths as the Bride in Michael and Phillip Are Getting Married in the Morning—An original comedy from FRED the ALIEN Productions for Melbourne Fringe at Gasworks Arts Park, 20-23 September 2017. Contorting amongst this spectacular bunch of weirdos in the Wonderland Spiegeltent is such fun. Only one week of shows left before Melbourne Fringe is over for another year and I say goodbye (for now) to the debaucherous world of the After Hours Cabaret Club. Grab tickets here and come see me debut my new act this week.
I’m almost ready to head to Melbourne Fringe to perform with the After Hours Cabaret Club, and with Cirque Nocturne. Nocturne’s only running the first four nights of the festival, in the same venue, immediately following After Hours, so you should definitely grab tickets to both and spend an evening watching my talented friends and I doing fun things in a Spiegeltent. Also, After Hours has different guest performers each night, and the core cast will be switching to new acts halfway through the season, so you should aim to see us at least twice! (It’s ok, nobody ever spells my name correctly).
One year ago today, FRED the ALIEN Productions released the concept image for our first foray into theatre with 'The Writer'.
Now, we are excited to bring you another original comedy for Melbourne Fringe at Gasworks Arts Park—'Michael and Phillip Are Getting Married in the Morning'.
Watch this space for more details!
