You’ve only trained in broadsword but not axe and mace for the melee? Should we host a feast? Should be invite the king?
Day 1 of Swordtember is done! I do admit i'm going to be doing all sorts of melee weapons for it, but hopefully it's not too much out of the spirit of the thing :) So, teeth! a short club with a surface studded with teeth taken from many things... (yeah there are only three unique teeth, i ended up pressed for time :P) Not my fav, but not my worst :)
Sometimes I wish your special interest was in different ways you could kill people with maylay weapons more specifically axes but yk. We can’t all have useful freinds, sometimes they’re just neat

Fine, jesus christ, battle axes are typically designed specifically for fighting purposes though some could double as tools. Throughout history a lot of commonplace objects were fashioned into weapons, and axes were typically cheaper than swords. In general, battle axes weigh a lot less than modern splitting axes since they were designed to cut through arms and legs and not wood, so the blade would be thinner. Additionally a light weapon also makes it easier to do repeated attacks. Battle axes also had metal reinforced shafts or all metal shafts so the enemy could not cut through it.
The vikings also developed a lot of axe technology, including throwing axes and “skeggox” which have a lower trailing edge that increased cleaving power and could catch the top of an enemies shield to pull it down.
Anyway, today nobody uses axes because they are frankly ineffective weapons and modern warfare doesn’t favor melee, but I have an axe in my closet and the next time you insult my hyperfixations I’ll figure it out :) (/j)
Jamie Ann Robyn reporting for duty! There aren't many changes to Jamie's design as of now. The only update is the Power Bat that she uses. The foundations of the weapon are there, but there are some little changes.
Unlike Sadie's Rook that is more hidden and defensive. The Power Bat uses a different and more direct approach to using the STAB. It uses the elements as it is for extra damage. The most common practice is to use Stan. However, Jamie likes to use other aspects to heighten her melee skills.
At the handle area, there is a bandage warped with stray edges. The bandage is dyed with the element from the previous post. The Tide Dye. Acting like an elastic rope, where Jamie can grab on. Expanding the weapon's range.
The gold ring at the end acts as a counterbalance for Jamie to make big swings. Stan users are normally straightforward. They use their weapon like normal, and because of the abundance of Stan crystals. It's very easy to refill.
Wizal Knife Concept
More art for my LoZ epic fic series, The Realm Walker!
This is a utility and self-defense knife used by the Wizal of the Bahreyo Alliance a group of five nations that lies to Hyrule's northwest. The Wizal themselves are avian mages, resembling the Wizzrobes from Wind Waker (or if you'd rather, Toucan Rito). They primarily use magic rods in combat (general rods, specialist rods). This knife is intended for last ditch self defense or more commonly as a utilitarian tool, namely cutting open monster to harvest their guts. In my fic monster's don't just poof away and leave behind bits all nice and neat, you gotta get your hands (or wings in the Wizal's case) dirty if you want those sweet (gross and terrible smelling) elixir ingredients.
One side of the blade has serrations, mimicking the beak of a toucan. That's right folks, toucans have serrated beaks. Check out this image on Wikpiedia. (Also an upcoming chapter of one of my fics includes a Wizal character loosely based on the species of toucan shown in that article link.)
The other edge is curved and sharpened until just above the guard. (I mean technically you could say the whole blade is kinda shaped like a toucan beak, or the upper mandible at least.)
Closeup of the guard.
The little loop on the pommel. Which you can tie strings to and whatnot.
This particular version has some kinda monster horn for the handle, others might have wood or some other material. Also the guard and loop might be gold or brass depending on the financial status of the user.
(I forgot to get a size reference image. Whoops! The handle is 170 mm long though, from the guard to the base of the pommel.)
My personal hopes for gun control is that it’ll reintroduce the melee age.
Bring back classy swords, spears, axes, etc. and keep the noisy boom sticks darn it!
The initiative shall be under the name of SWAWS: Swords Worthy of A Worthwhile Society.
