i write sins //epic tragedy (melliope)
She had felt the shift in magic the minute it happened. Callie was still getting used to all the different types of powers and people in this place, but the moment that this particular power blipped onto her radar, she knew.
And she got excited.
It was Mellie.
She knew how Mellie’s power felt anywhere, knew how it felt to her—in that weird way that powers felt to her, kinda like feelings but more tangible and touchable. Mellie’s powers were cool to the touch and sometimes shimmery, sometimes not. But she knew the way they sank into the concave part of her chest, knew how they settled right under her heart.
Urania had been right. Mellie was here.
The minute school let out, Callie grabbed her bag and bolted out of her last class, trying to follow the feeling. It was a bit harder than she expected—the whole town was full of powers and some people’s were way more overwhelming than others. But she had been teaching herself to identify them. She knew that all sorcerers sorta felt the same way, with differences in strength and specialty. The same went with fairies. Everyone else, with powers that she couldn’t identify specifically unless she really wanted to single in on them but could still feel, bubbled around her and she tried to ignore them, trying to hone in on that blip of Mellie on her radar.
She was here.
Somewhere.
Biting down on her lip, Callie stopped in the middle of Main Street, scanning around the crowd.
No, looking wouldn’t help.
She closed her eyes and let herself feel.
There was some sort of fairy…something with water? That was cool! Whoa, no don’t get distracted.
Some sort of shifter…she shivered, feeling the shadows around her…
And then…
Her eyes flew open and she bolted across the street.
She saw the familiar mass of curly hair and nearly screamed.
“Mellie! Oh my God!” She caught up with Mellie and wrapped her into a big hug. “I can’t believe it! I thought we wouldn’t be able to find you!”
