I found it bc i clicked the link for sm1’s mada fic recs (go look at bus called graveyard 8’s answered ask abt mada fic recs and look for the last one bc i read that one)

after that i scrolled through the website’s Madagascar tag and then found the fic-

it’s called “a giraffe’s tale” and basically it’s pre-mada1 and so on from melman’s pov

it explores some stuff like his backstory bc in canon, he’s from the Bronx zoo

but it adds stuff like parents lore, him meeting the others, and also canon jealousy that TEN YEARS LATER bro can’t get over (see reunion chapter bc jealousy is implied :3)

BUT THE REFERENCES TO THE OG MOVIES HAVE ME GOING CRAZY

HE PRACTICED DANCING WHEN HE WAS A KID AND ITS A REF TO THE FACT THAT IN MADA3 BRO STILL DOESNT KNOW HOW TO DANCE
