First Visit
After the accident, people started placing a lot of items to remember the 34 victims of the Conception boat fire. Everything from pieces of art, photos, painted rocks, flowers, etc. Recently they moved this temporary memorial of items to the Lost at Sea memorial area (pictured here).
On Monday I made my first visit to the site since the accident...
The day was actually really beautiful and sunny..
To get to the memorial site you have to walk around the harbor and down the breakwater. The walk seemed to go on and on.
There was one woman walking opposite to me and she was on her phone, “Its just so sad..All those families.” She was talking about my family and didn’t even know it..
Its crazy to think of mass tragedy and how we talk about it. Those are real people and that is their life... I wouldn’t know what that felt like unless I experienced my own. I guess its made me more sensitive to the pain of others, but also understanding of those who don’t understand... Because I didn’t understand before. How could I?
For those that aren’t familiar with diving, the red flag with the white stripe is a symbol for diving.
I’m not sure who made all the signs and things. That’s not the correct spelling of mom’s name, but its the thought that counts.
I still can’t believe it on most days... That they’re all gone... and Michael and Mom aren’t coming back home... That we won’t be making any new weird family traditions... like the occasional crab thanksgiving/christmas dinner... No more random nights of freshly grilled zucchini (my fav), corn on the cob, and mushrooms (yuck) with overcooked steak lol. Mom and Michael like their steaks well done... I know, some of you are gasping at the thought of “ruined” steak..
Its getting closer and closer to that 100 day mark...
When Kuya, Vaness, and the kids visited the site back in October Mom’s heart was missing and so they went to the craft store to make her a new one (bottom left), but when I went to visit, her original heart was back (top right)... So now her name is on there twice.
This is them... Truth Aquatics. This is where we boarded the boats when we went on the dive trips... This is the last place they walked this Earth.
Such a peaceful, quiet day.
