I had a conversation w a guy yesterday and he was saying the law requiring porn stars to use protection was stupid because they are "two consenting adults". I pointed out the great power imbalance b/t the men in porn and the women in porn and if condom use isn't regulated it's the women who are more susceptible to disease. I pointed out the racist, fetishizing aspect as well. It evolved into a convo about trafficking and prostitution as well and he said that these women have "other choices" and we should legalize and regulate everything to keep an eye on it. He said he knows "tons of women" who love porn, that the problem is these desperate women have other options they'd rather not take (work at Walmart and be on welfare). I pointed out that ppl who work should make money enough so they shouldn't be on welfare and that when prostitution is legalized it then becomes okay for the govt to step in and garnish welfare wages for turning down any prostitution jobs. He ended it all by saying it's not an issue of gender and if you grew up w a "Latina maid" that could be the reason for liking Latina women and humans will always have perverse sexual appetites.
