Murray Smoker: "Menthol"
Last batch for now, since I have to get back to making icons!
love!
I didn't do Menthol Cookie justice in my previous post, so here he is!!😈
The 1960s "Freshness" campaign was truly something else. Because when I think of a "fresh, natural taste," I definitely think of inhaling burning menthol while sitting on a well scented dock. These people are having the time of their lives, likely because the minty smoke is the only thing keeping the sea air from smelling like actual sea air. Everyone looks remarkably dry for being that close to the water.

My First Pack of Cigarettes...and the Print Ad I was Looking at...and the Song I was Listening to...When I Smoked my First Virginia Slims 120
This is a scan (with the cellophane band recreated) of the first pack of cigarettes I ever bought and smoked in October of 1985, as well as the Virginia Slims 120s print ad that finally pushed me over the edge start smoking. It arrived in my subscription copy of the November 1985 edition of Vogue.
When I lit up for the first time, the song that was playing on the radio...remember, this was 1985...was “West End Girls” by Pet Shop Boys:

I was a 21 year old senior in college completing a summa bachelorette's degree in biology.
And I'd also just been accepted to medical school.
