It’s finally #ElectionDay in Maine! I cannot emphasize how important today’s election is. I have been following this and waiting for this since shortly after moving here. So many lies from @avangrid @hydroquebec @necec_me yet Mainers can see right through it all. From the fact that this project has no benefits, only destruction, to our environment, to the lie that it is only 54’ wide when it’s already about 100’. From HydroQuebec’s recklessness to their own indigenous people and influencing our elections, to @mainersforfairlaws (ironic name) alluding that a “yes” vote is the same thing as getting rid of your health care and taking your gun rights away. I have to say, I really am not impressed with that John Williams photo. This may make me sound like a soft-on-crime bleeding-heart (which I definitely am), but it is so incredibly inappropriate to treat policing like trophy hunting. Even in this case, when really, Williams probably is guilty of a pretty serious crime, it’s still dangerous to gleefully share dramatic photos of him with Facebook comments about how he should be shot in the head. Celebrating this normalizes police brutality and contributes to a culture that suggests police should have free reign to do whatever they want.
