As vast and large as the sea was it currently seemed, filled with the beauty of the coral and life of the fish and Mers. None appeared to be around currently… Not that Tommy Danger Kraken Innit minded!
He didn’t mind being alone in the sea! He had plenty of wives out in the ocean! He was sure to find somebody… Eventually… He sighed as he laid on a rock in disappointment, disappointment, and ashamed. Ashamed of what had happened.
The young Mer had been an idiot and was being rather reckless, he always loved the danger, teasing predatory Mers into thinking they were getting an easy meal but that wasn’t always the case as Tommy always had a sneaky move up his sleeve.
One time, he had been a little too reckless, and lead a dangerous Mer a little too close for the coral reef’s liking and after much discussion from the Reef, they decided the best course of action would be to exile the young Mer.
They were idiots, leaving a young Mer to fend for himself out in the wild! What were they thinking?! Even his fucking family left him! In all honesty, though, he missed the comfort of the Reef. After all, it was his home, the place he felt like he belonged…
But, hey! Tommy wasn’t going to give up! He was going to find a new home! And be better than these people who decided to abandon him!
…
There was a new scent in the area, an unfamiliar one. It was a Mer, a small one. One that would normally be considered a meal for the average Mer… But Wilbur wasn’t inheritably like that, his instincts were very different from the normal Mer.
Instead of having the normal instincts to eat whatever living thing was in front of him but Wilbur never really felt those instincts, they were more dormant than anything. In fact, not like he didn’t eat the occasional Mer but that was only when the time called it necessary.
He was more playful than anything, he found that he relied more on his hunting instincts than predatory ones and with it, he was more sensitive, observant. He never found the satisfaction in eating Mers, rather chasing them was a hobby of his that he enjoyed.
Can’t say that the Mers themselves liked it though because they often found Wilbur terrifying, more so than the actual Mers that actually ate them. They didn’t know he meant no harm, so rumors spread about him. About him being the ‘The chaser’.
The chaser meaning he’d chase you so much to the point you’d tire yourself out from exhaustion. Then be devoured in a very… not so nice way. And because of these rumors, everyone avoided his territory. Leaving Wilbur in complete isolation.
Wilbur never really minded the loneliness much, despite his enjoyment because he rather preferred it, it gave him peace and time. And that’s why he found it so odd that there was a scent of a Mer nearby.
…
He put down his musical instrument, what would usually be called a ‘guitar’ and set it aside in a corner of a cave. And carefully swam towards the scent, curious at to what a Mer was doing on his territory and was surprised to find a red-looking Mer contemplating on a rock….
Which was honestly an interesting sight, seeing the Mer turn from a look of sadness to one of slight determination, before immediately contemplating himself again. It caught his intrigue; it was rather interesting…
Had this Mer not heard the rumors? Or was he unaware of what was to possibly come? Honestly, Wilbur did not wish to harm this Mer in any way. Most probably because he hadn’t had company in so long, could he really be blamed?
He swam carefully towards the tiny Mer…
…
Tommy felt his heart race when a looming shadow covered him, he flinched and immediately turned around, almost screaming his lungs out as he saw a giant, smiling Mer with the sharpest teeth he had ever seen.
The Mer’s claws were undoubtedly sharp and seemed wicked with the smile it was portraying. Not only that the size of the Mer was gigantic, much larger than other giant Mers Tommy had seen during his lifetime.
He swam away, quickly as he could before being caught by the giant Mer. Giant hands held him tightly, he felt the Mer’s arms move, no doubt towards his face. He opened his eyes and there they were the Mer’s eyes…
But for some reason, the Mer’s face didn’t display the happiness of whatever meal he was about to have, rather concern. Concern over the fact that he’d scared the poor guy.
“Oh god- I didn’t mean to scare you! I’m sorry!”, his voice was soothing, almost like a lullaby. But it confused Tommy, why was a giant Mer concerned over scaring him? Wouldn’t he be delighted to have an easy meal?
The Mer’s eyes furrowed at the sight of Tommy’s fear increasing. In hopes of calming the Mer slightly, he let go of his hold of the Mer, granting him freedom. Tommy looked to the Mer in fear, unable to move due to the fear of death holding him within its grasp.
…
“Are you lost? What’s somebody so young like you, doing out here?”. That comment angered Tommy, no one dared to call him a child. And he wasn’t about to be patronized! Not by some giant who thinks he can take advantage of him!
“DON’T YOU DARE PATRONISE ME! YOU FUCKER!”. All his fear disappeared for a moment, but it immediately disappeared as the Mer moved slightly, scaring Tommy to a point where he flinched back again.
The Mer appeared to be amused at Tommy’s brief moment of anger, “You’re an interesting one, aren’t you?”, the comment itself was enough to make Tommy shiver. “I- “, Tommy couldn’t get the words out of his mouth.
“My name is Wilbur, nice to meet you, small one. What’s your name?”, reluctantly and wanting the highest chances to live in this situation, spoke his name. “T-Tommy…”, the Mer smiled, showing off all his large fangs to be seen.
“That’s a nice name! One I believe to have the meaning of soldier! Which you definitely quite display!”. The Mer’s extra comment on the name seemed to be a rather one to add additional conversation like the Mer was lonely.
Wilbur moved his hand towards Tommy, he immediately swam back. Realizing the fear, Wilbur withdrew his hand, not wanting to scare Tommy. “Sorry! I- I don’t want to hurt you!”, he tried to reassure but it just seemed to make the teen more on edge.
Then Tommy spoke up, “What do you mean not hurt me!? You’re a predator!”, the comment itself made Wilbur flinch back, “Listen! I really don’t want to hurt you! If I wanted to, wouldn’t I have done so by now?”.
It did make Tommy think, why wasn’t the Mer hurting him right now? “Well, what if you’re playing a game?”. Wilbur’s pupils dilated slightly, but not in a manner of hunting, rather in concern. “I promise I’m playing no game here child-“. That angered Tommy but he made no attempt to lash out.
“Now, that aside”, The mer’s expression looked more worried, “What’s somebody like you doing out here in my territory?”. Was Tommy really going to open up to a giant Mer who’s probably going to kill him? Was he about to regret what he was about to do? Certainly.
“I- My Reef, exiled me”, if Mer’s could cry, he’d most likely be sobbing right now, but only saddened chirps left his throat. Wilbur seemed to pity him slightly and offered his hand to Tommy, who much to Wilbur’s surprise, accepted the hand hug.
Tommy accepted the hand hug of the stranger. Despite the fact it was from it was a giant, but it was strangely comforting, “I’m sorry that had to happen, would you like to stay here for a while?”, Tommy looked up to Wilbur’s gaze and found no dishonesty.
Perhaps he could actually trust the Mer?...
…
It all turned to dust when Wilbur took Tommy to his cave to rest, and a little mistake happened…
Tommy had accidentally swum too close towards Wilbur’s mouth, and it seemed to activate both of their instincts. Tommy swam back in fear and soon heard the growls of Wilbur, who turned with his eye dilated and tongue gaping out his mouth.
To say Tommy was swimming as fast as he could, was an understatement. He was swimming for his life. His mind screaming with panic, screaming at him to swim away as fast as he can. Wilbur followed without effort, scrambling to grab Tommy who narrowly dodged.
Wilbur tried to stop, holding back whatever instincts he could, trying not to grab Tommy with all he could with claws. To say Wilbur was enjoying it was true, but he wasn’t really enjoying the fact that he couldn’t control himself.
The pattern repeated as they swam behind rocks, seaweed, and the other sea life. All until Tommy inevitably swam into a corner. That was when he realized that Wilbur was the most likely rumored Chaser, and he knew that he was now going to be devoured.
…
Wilbur’s claws reached out to him, he screamed for Wilbur to stop but it never happened. Instead, Wilbur’s mouth opened, displaying his large fangs and sharp tongue. He waited to be placed within the Mer’s mouth.
But it never happened, rather the tongue curled around him, covering him in saliva, purring but he was never placed inside of the Mer’s mouth. And rather, Wilbur would occasionally nuzzle Tommy. As if he had no intention of harming the Mer….
…
He yawned as he stretched, he looked around to the familiar sharp fangs without fear. Rather he smiled as he playfully punched the inside of Wilbur’s mouth. To which the older responded with a groan until the mouth opened and a gentle claw brought him out.
He had been living with Wilbur for a long while now, he’d grown to trust him, even going as far as to call him his brother. And Wilbur was more than happy to accept that fact.
I was thinking about how in the kraken au Tubbo is protected by Ranboo and mostly Tommy so I was thinking what if they had a system to let the mers know if a ship was good or bad.
I was thinking they made this system after a trading vessel incident. The crew was just concerned why a teen was out at sea alone and just wanted to make sure he was alright or if he was lost, but all Tommy saw from below the water was a really big ship suddenly changing direction towards Tubbo and assumed the worst. After a scuffle and a nearly capsized ship the trio was left to apologize to an extremely shaken up crew.
It was this that caused Tubbo to create the good guy bad guy warning system. With the help of Ranboo they made plant based color bombs. Each color lets them know what’s happening. For instance green means, all good I’m not going to get killed. Orange means something is sus but let’s wait and see how this goes. Red means oh shit they want to kill me
More colors and meanings could be added as well.
PS they absolutely throw them at each other and it is a mess every time
Bonus points if any of them are rinsing off the red when the SBI or Puffy’s crew visits
Ooooooo YES
This is definitely something they do to make sure Tommy and Ranboo don't attack random ships (they're both mers, remember)
Tommy and Ranboo actually pick bioluminescent plants from the underwater farm Tommy has to let Tubbo use them for the dyes so it's easier to see in darker water!
And yeah- they would probably forget to tell the adults still living around the village about it so when they come back and Tommy and Tubbo are washing off red (Bec Tommy has a human form) everyone freaks out thinking something bad happened
(Get ready for some fluff for this one. Also it’s mermay so their going to be mers)

Tommy laughed as he chased after the tiny mer. Tubbo had wanted to play a game of chase. If Tubbo won Tommy would have to hunt for him for a whole week, but if Tommy won he’d get a special treat. Tommy smiled at the idea and kicked up his speed reaching out for Tubbo. Just as he was about to grab him, he dashed away leaving Tommy to almost crash into a large rock.
“Hey!” He yelled out. “You can’t swim forever!” He’d lost sight of the little mer for now, but he always found him again. He snuck around the coral reef looking for Tubbo. Finally a spotted a flag of a green tail. He quietly swam after it keeping hidden behind the coral. Before Tubbo spotted him he dashed out pinning Tubbo to the ground.
“Gottcha!” He yelled as Tubbo tried to wiggle out from under his hand. He carefully scooped him up in a firm fist.
“Oh come on! You can’t win every time!” Tubbo pouted looking up at Tommy.
“Yes I can.” Tommy smirked. He held Tubbo up closer to his face. “Maybe you should’ve swam faster.”
“I did!” Tubbo swung his fist out trying to hit Tommy’s nose. He completely missed making Tommy laugh.
“Well I still won, again. So do I get my treat now?” He asked grinning.
“I guess so. Not like you’re going to let me go.” He crossed his arms.
Tommy smirked. “Nope!” He moved Tubbo so he was carefully pinching his waist. He opened his mouth and set Tubbo down on his tongue. He licked over Tubbo closing his mouth.
Tubbo giggled as Tommy licked over him. Most mers would be terrified of being in a mouth. But Tubbo knew he was safe with Tommy. He playfully pushed at the slick muscle. He wrestled with Tommy’s tongue till he was to tired to continue. He flopped back going limp. He patted the tongue to let Tommy know he was ready.
Tommy happily pushed and poked at Tubbo enjoying the tiny mer unique taste. He waited till he felt a soft pat from Tubbo to tilt his head back a gently swallow. He swam over to a cozy rock slab so he could rest in the sun. He laid on his back gently rubbing at where he felt Tubbo.
Tubbo sighed letting himself completely relax as he felt the tight throat muscles pull him down deeper into his friend. He happily gave Tommy a quick message before they would both fell asleep.
“You ok Tubbo?” Tommy asked softly.
“Yeah I’m ok big man.” Tubbo said curling up and getting comfortable.
Tommy nodded satisfied and closed his eyes quickly falling asleep, tried from chasing Tubbo around all day.
Soon soft snores could be heard around Tubbo as he fell asleep, he smiled knowing he was as safe as possible with Tommy. He was quickly asleep.
HAHAHAHA ANGST TIME, i'm kidding. its all fluff! MUHAHAHAAHAA!

(@ghostan0n here you guys go!)
Tommy swam and splashed happily around his pond. The pond was a fair size considering Tommy was only about half a foot in height, not only that but the pond had a good ecosystem going for it with no other Mers around, meaning it was the perfect safe haven for the little Mer.
Growing up Tommy had been the runt of him and his siblings and because of the smaller size, he got blown away in a current from his family at a young, leaving him to learn to survive without the help of his parents.
He luckily found the pond, so it greatly helped him in surviving. He learnt how to live completely on his own.
He wasn’t alone though; he did have some frequent visitors.
“Tommy! We got you some treats!”. Tommy slowly and sneakily made his way to the surface, out of the way from the human’s view, to deem this treat worthy of his feast.
Surprisingly it was his favourite, little choc chips. They were sweet and full of flavour! Tommy loved them! He dove back under the water and happily pounced onto Wilbur’s hand. “There you are!”, he was just smaller than Wilbur’s hand.
He chirped back happily and began to eat his chocolate, he wasn’t allowed much and afterwards Wilbur was supposed to give him fish food, which wasn’t the worst food out there, but it tasted rather bland if he was honest.
Wilbur chuckled as he witnessed Tommy straight up gobbling the chocolate with what he could with small fangs. He honestly found it adorable. “You doing okay, Today?”, Tommy chirped happily in response.
Sadly, Tommy couldn’t speak English, only understand it. He learnt it through many years of living in the lake. But what he could speak was his own language known as Oceanian, which consisted of thrills and chirps.
And luckily for Tommy they had a translator as Wilbur’s dad, Phil worked with Mers and had a good understanding of the language. Meaning he could communicate with them. Only with Phil present though, he had yet to learn sign language.
Once Tommy was finished with his chocolate, he dove back into the water as he couldn’t stay on the surface forever.
Tommy is honestly quite happy where he is now, he would never want to leave the pond. It was his home now and Wilbur, Techno and Phil were his family, even with the creature difference.
Tommy gestured for Wilbur to join him in the pond and play. “You wanna play?”, he got a splash in response. So, Wilbur happily walked into the pond, with it barely being his knees length he could easily sit down.
Once he did sit down, Tommy swam around his legs. Breaching the surface much like a dolphin now and again. It made Wilbur happy to see Tommy happy as cheesy as that was.
“So, what’s happening in Tommy’s chaotic life Today?”. Tommy stopped for a minute and surfaced his upper body. He pinched his chin in a thinking position until he seemed to remember something.
Tommy dove back into the water and didn’t surface back up for a couple of minutes. It made Wilbur curious about what he was doing. Then Tommy came up to be carrying a small shell, which fit nicely into both arms.
“Another shell for my necklace, huh?”. Tommy nodded and chirped happily in response. Wilbur was going to have to drill a hole into this one in order to fit his necklace that was laced with shells already given to them.
It was always a gesture Tommy gave them; it was always a contest between the three of them who got the most shells from Tommy. And not to brag but Wilbur was winning.
Tommy continued to swim around Wilbur and getting the occasional hand cuddles, then it was time for bed, “Alright Toms, I think that’s enough for today.”. He whispered to the half-asleep Mer sleeping on his hand.
Tommy lazily chirped back as if saying “I don’t wanna sleep!”. But Wilbur moved so he could put Tommy into his grove.
But Tommy wasn’t having it, he clung onto Wilbur’s hand when he tried to retract it. “Tommy, it’s getting late! Phil will be mad if I don’t get home for dinner!”, he chirped back frustratingly in response.
“Tommy we can’t be arguing right now, I gotta go. I’m sorry”. Tommy began to aggressively chirp at Wilbur as if he were screaming profanities, he probably was. “Tommy! First, language! Second, I can’t stay! Sorry bud. I’ll come back tomorrow though”.
Tommy’s ear like fins lowered as he made the saddest puppy dog eyes he could. He didn’t want Wilbur to leave obviously. Wilbur sighed, “Why are you being so clingy today, huh?”.
Tommy thrilled sadly. “Alright, alright. I’ll be back in a couple of minutes, okay?”. Tommy finally let go of Wilbur, trusting him to come back and Wilbur wasn’t just going to let him down.
Wilbur made his way back to the house, “There you are Wil! How’s Tommy?”. He asked as he continued to cut the onions on the cutting board. “Just fine, he’s being really clingy Today.”.
“Ah, Mers can be like that sometimes, they don’t want their pod to leave.”, “Tommy wouldn’t let me leave one night actually, it was annoying”. Techno added, but it was clear no ill intent was there. It was just Techno’s way of being playful.
“Hey Dad, is it okay if I skip out on dinner tonight?”, Phil looked over with concern on his features. “How come?”, Wilbur stumbled on his words, whilst grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge. “Uhh-“.
Wilbur looked away when he couldn’t answer. There was a moment of awkward silence as Phil thought for a moment. Then he pieced it together. “Oh! Got it! Go ahead! Stay safe alright?”. He sighed in relief, “Will do!”. Then, he left the house back to the pond.
…
He then made his way back to the pond, “Tommy! I’m back!”. In a second Tommy was at the surface, swimming towards Wilbur. “Okay, you clingy bitch! You know what we’re going to do?”. He asked sarcastically. Tommy chirped back in determination. He knew what he was going to do.
Because of Phil’s job as a Mer biologist, a professional one at that. He knew a lot about Mers. And he made sure his kids knew a lot too. So, when the family met Tommy, they already were well aware of how to take care of the Mer.
That also included other things too, such as the fact Mer’s were able to be swallowed and safely be stored in a human’s stomach since they were acid-resistant. The first time Phil had done it so they could transport Tommy safely was rather shocking for Wilbur and Techno.
But then they did it themselves and were actually quite surprised it felt like a giant hug, so they honestly didn’t mind swallowing Tommy, they did it now and again. So, it seems like it was one of those days for Tommy.
“How about a challenge Toms?”, Tommy furrowed an eyebrow. “Try and land in my mouth. I dare you.”.
Tommy made a determined expression and quickly dove back into the water. Wilbur sat down, opened his mouth, and waited. After about a minute, Tommy breached the surface as high as he could. And missed.
So, he tried again, this time Wilbur gave him a helping hand and let Tommy land in his hands. And then quickly shoving him in his mouth, much to Tommy’s dismay. He wanted to do the challenge. It made Wilbur laugh as Tommy’s tail hung out of his mouth.
Tommy chirped angrily and slapped his tail against Wilbur’s chin. In response, Wilbur just softly swallowed, then proceeding to slurp up Tommy’s tail like a noodle. He then swallowed again and traced Tommy’s descent with his hand. Making sure his little brother was again.
Once he felt Tommy land in his stomach, he put a hand to his stomach. “You okay Toms?”. He got a chirp in response and felt Tommy get comfortable in his stomach. He signed in relief, he then grabbed his water bottle and chugged down the bottle. So, Tommy was sure to be safe.
“Alright, time for bed.”. He then made his way back home, grabbed his guitar and played a soft melody until he heard Tommy’s sleepy chirps. Then made his way to bed.

Tommy had recently finished tending to his farm, and it seems Tubbo has been quite busy as of late been busy with chores to do around the village, so he was just left to be swimming in the wide ocean.
He wasn’t alone though, he had his friend Ranboo by his side, who was constantly trying to keep up with him, he honestly found it quite hilarious since Ranboo is so small compared to him and he can see Ranboo swimming around his tentacles, trying to gain speed to keep up with him. Tommy isn’t that much of an ass though, he does keep Ranboo the occasional boost if needed.
He sighed and decided to take a break, well for Ranboo anyways, a couple of easy swims isn’t quite so easy for a tiny Mer like Ranboo. He chuckled “You alright there, Big man?”. He sat there as Ranboo swam up to his face, which took a good minute. “I-I’m fine! You sure swim fast though...”. He said in between pants for his breath.
Before Tommy could even begin communication with his friend, Ranboo’s attention seemed to be elsewhere, as he went to ask, he was interrupted by Ranboo asking, “Tommy, have you destroyed any ships recently?”.
Tommy raised an eyebrow in confusion, he hadn’t taken down any ships in a while since no pirates have dared come near the town for a while, the only ships he’s seen is Puffy's and the other villagers. Oh no.
Tommy went into alert towards the boat to investigate, he hoped it wasn’t one of the villagers, had they been attacked by Mers? Had he not kept an eye on them?!
His heart pounded out of his chest as he surfaced the water, taking a close look at the damage.
He exhaled in relief as it wasn’t one of his own, but something did catch his interest, it appeared to be a net of some sort, containing something. In fact, it was one of the only remnants left of the ship. Heck even the cause of what happened to this boat was unclear.
Ranboo soon surfaced beside him, looking at Tommy in concern, “You alright?”, “Fine, don’t worry. It’s nobody we know”. Tommy reached a hand out to Ranboo in comfort, but before Ranboo could even begin to comfort Tommy, they both heard a strange sound. It came from the net.
Tommy wrapped a hand around Ranboo and brought him towards his chest as he glared at the net in alarm. But his glare changed from one of anger to concern as the nets sound became a lot clearer. It was a baby Mers chirps. Tommy looked down at Ranboo and he seemed just as concerned.
Tommy used his other hand to poke at the net, in response, there was a chirp of alert. It seemed whatever was in this net was a baby mer. “Ranboo, could you open the net for me please?”.
Ranboo immediately went into action and swam quickly towards it, trying to get whatever baby in this net out. What was a baby Mer doing in a net-like this?
The most likely conclusion was that a ship had captured a baby Mer and whatever happened to the ship got it destroyed, leaving this Mer to suffer in this net. Leaving to now Tommy’s and Ranboo’s responsibility to save the poor Mer.
After a while of fiddling with the net Ranboo finally got it loose and held onto the baby Mer. The baby Mer seemed weak with injuries covering their head and arms, they were a light pink colour with a semblance of green too. Their grip barely had any strength to it. It broke Ranboo’s heart to see them like this, Tommy’s too.
Tommy held out his hand to Ranboo, to which he swam into. Ranboo was then held into a somewhat tight grip, enough to keep him safe when travelling at fast paces. And the second Tommy was sure they were safe, he swam as fast as possible back to the village.
A couple of hours later.
“So let me get this straight, you both found this baby Mer stuck in a net out in the sea?” Tubbo concluded after being told of their recent adventure.
Tommy sat with Tubbo in his human form on the rock and beside them a pond of water, big enough to hold a couple of Mers, and with them in the water was Ranboo, the baby Mer beside him also, laying in his arms, covered in bandages from his injuries. He was fast asleep after their tough day.
“Yeah, and the thing is, we don’t know what to do with the lil’ guy since well, I doubt Wilbur’s up to taking care of another kid since Fundy’s already a handful, doubt Karl would want a kid and I have no idea who else would care for him.”. Tommy explained.
Tubbo didn’t respond initially, he just stared down at the small baby Mer for a moment, the mer was just to put it simply adorable and had gained a spot in Tubbo’s heart, the same could be said for Ranboo and Tommy.
“Mine.”. Tubbo said in a low tone. “What?” Both Tommy and Ranboo looked at Tubbo in confusion. “Mine”. Tubbo stood up from his spot in the rocks and climbed down to a point where he could interact with the baby Mer, he gently put his hand on the Mers's face.
“Tubbo, you’re acting like a clingy Tommy right now”. Ranboo snorted at his platonic husband’s behaviour, Tubbo looked up at him in annoyance. “HEY BITCH! I HEARD THAT Y’KNOW!”. Tommy stomped his foot and stood his ground.
“SHHH!”. They quickly snapped, not wanting the baby to be awoken. Ranboo sighed, “Tubbo, we can’t necessarily take care of a kid, we’re just kids ourselves”. “Don’t care, he’s ours now. I’m naming him Michael”.
And from that point on, Tubbo and Ranboo became parents, and Tommy became an uncle. It luckily didn’t take too long for Michael to recover, only with a couple of scars but he proved to be a very happy and friendly Mer. He loves spending time with his family. And not so long ago Tubbo gave him a little chicken plush he named Benson.
