I'm curious, does anyone else know the significance/symbolism of Meredith crawling out of the black ichor bath tub? I know the tub was the same one Lydia's grandmother had been in (which is another reason I think this is all Valack's charade, reminding us of the tampering of memory), but what else does this scene represent? Also, is there any significance behind the Ringu reference? This movie has been referenced multiple times, but is it just for aesthetics or does it mean something deeper?
So is Meredith actually Vallack? We know he's getting inside her head and he can glamor his image. And he was just talking about teaching her how to use her voice last episode.
i know there's theories that danny is the tech side of the Benefactor side which i've always though was a great theory but i never really saw how meredith could have gotten to him. but i just remembered in season 3 when meredith is at the school and coach is trying to get her to talk danny is right next to him and tells him asylums aren't called nuthouses anymore. she could've remembered him from then, caught some banshee noise off him and recruited him.
A good point, that might be it. We have no indication that Danny has any connections to Eichen House.
The only thing I can think of that has him connected to doctors of any kind, are the operation he had when he was 14, that he tells Ethan about in 3x06
Ethan: What’s that? Danny: I have two of them, from a surgery I had to correct misshapen cartilage I was born with. I had a bar put in when I was 14. It stayed there for two years to support my sternum, so my heart and lungs wouldn’t be crushed. Ethan: Well, what if there was a way you could make them disappear? Danny: I don’t really want them to. They make me feel like a survivor.
So he’s been under medical care twice since he was 14… That is after he was arrested for hacking. I’m being paranoid and seeing evil patterns everywhere these days, but with the new promos I just don’t trust doctors at all..
how do you love meredith while you hate anders I mean I hate him too but I just view them as different sides of the same coin lol idgi
Valid question my friend!!! Disclaimer: I don’t approve ofMeredith’s actions one teensy tiny bit. Nope, nuh-uh, she was wrong to orderthe deaths of so many in response to the actions of one who really had nothingto do with them. Anders was a known apostate; Meredith knew he did not belong to the Circle and only left him alonebecause he was friends with Hawke. So really, there was no reason for her toorder the annulment of the Circle. That’s one part of her writing that reallymakes no sense to me, but the writing for DA2 was all over the place so there’sthat. Putting under a read more because this got really long~
ANWAY the reason I love Meredith is because she’s so goddamn well written (excluding TheLast Straw of course) and also because I havean undying love for well-written female characters. Meredith’s story goes(and I’m pulling from the wiki): when she was young, she had a sister whodeveloped magical talents. Her family, wanting to shield her from the Circle, did not give her to the Templars, and as a result her sister became possessedand slaughtered all of Meredith’s family save for her. Obviously somethinghighly traumatic, and even more obviously what solidified her views on magic.
The thing that I love about Meredith is that she honestlywants to do good. She wants to protect others from the horrors she experienced,by any means necessary. Meredith is a moral gray area: do the ends she goes tojustify her means? No, they don’t, but her intent is selfless for lack of abetter word. Even when she turns on the Templars following her, she screamsthat she will “protect this city if (she) has to do it all by herself.” HOWEVERI do think that her fervency is influenced by her personal fear/hatred ofmages. Her mage sister literally killed every member of her family except her. Kindof similar to Fenris, in my opinion, though I think Fenris has a more validreason to be the way he is toward mages.
Is she a good person? Well…yes and no. Yes because she doesnot enjoy employing such strictmeasures upon the mages under her care (in a roundabout way she even admits tothis!!!), and no because she does anyway in ways that are harsh and unnecessary. No, because her views on magic are very black and white. She doesn’t see thatmages have self-control; all she sees are people who would grasp at whateverpower some dark figure from the fade would offer them. She doesn’t recognize theiragency.
As for comparing her with Anders...they are similar, I won’t argue. However there’s a clear split in theirrespective motivations; while both are influenced by their own personal background,Meredith also clearly wants to shield others from what she fears, while Anderskind of masquerades his personal desire for vengeance for himself by claiming it to be a desire for justice for allmages. I could write a very long, very wordy essay about how thejustice/vengeance dynamic that Anders has, which I really love discussing andunfortunately do not see enough discussion thereof, but I’ve got an art projectI should’ve been doing an hour ago so I’ll have to save that for another day.
Tl;dr I feel like I didn’t really sum up very well why I loveMeredith in the above paragraphs so I’ll try to do it here. Meredith doesn’tact like a hero; she thinks about what needs to be done and does it, though sheoften admits that if there were a better option she would take it (which therenormally is a better option, but herprejudice will not allow her to consider it). Anders claims to be a championfor mage rights, but his championing seems rather lackluster, and when hefinally does something it hurts a lot ofpeople who were in absolutely no way involved. Meredith aims to keep those notinvolved out of the equation; Anders is determined to make a very complicatedissue everyone’s burden to bear.
If none of what I wrote makes any sense feel free to send memore questions! Hell if I’m right about how incoherent this all seems you’llprobably have to. Good thing I’m not an English major.
