Review: Barbie: The Pearl Princess
3: {SPOLIERS} Barbie: The Pearl Princess (2014) is another 7/10 movie. It's underrated, granted, the plot is a lot like Rapunzel, but it surprised me. It's more than that, the characters are truly what make me love this movie.
-I admire the main character, Lumina so much. The entire time, I wanted her to succeed in whatever she did. -Also, Fergus. This guy just wanted to be a botanist. He's not focused on any of these hoes (other than Cora) or the crown. He just wants to focus on plants. Also, in the beginning, before he styled his hair, he reminded me a lot of Goshiki from Haikyuu (oh honey, those bangs). -The animals talk again. I'm pretty sure that's how it is in every Barbie movie. I'll let ya'll know when I encounter a Barbie movie without animals that speak. -I'm so pissed Lumina doesn't have a purse. When she's leaving her home with the royal invitation, she keeps losing it and letting go and it made me so frustrated. -The way Madam Ruckus says "sugar" and "honey" is so soothing to me. Those are a few of my favorite pet names to be called, so hearing them makes me automatically happy, but her voice adds to it too. -Just the sentence, "I don't want to hit you, I want to play cards." It genuinely made me laugh. -If I had known of snarly kelp's existence in this movie when I was younger, I'd probably be terrified of it like I was of quicksand. -I can't take the villain seriously, he's a mermaid Wario. Merio.
