you can whinge about how "fat in the 1970s isn't actually fat" but for all intents and purposes to the narrative and the characters within it she is, functionally, fat. she is treated like she is fat. she is stephen king's version of fat. the distinction between "real fat" and "fake fat" means very little based on the way the book and everyone inside it talks about her

#I agree that there was plenty of people will see someone who’s pretty skinny and still say they’re fat #but idk if it matters tbh in the case of adaptation bc if YOU don’t register the character as fat #and the fatness is an important part of their character #then the ‘well actually’ doesn’t matter #the text didn’t read to you #also in the case of Carrie specifically the casting decisions have made me deeply sad since I read the book in high school #cause it’s like they don’t think people with sympathize with this girl unless she’s conventionally attractive #which is kinda antithetical to the whole point right?
