Mericcup: Apocalypse+ Safe and Sound
Safe & Sound
“Shh, shh, shh.” Merida uttered hurriedly as she kicked the door open, supporting most of Hiccup’s weight on her shoulders. She could hear the gang chasing after them, firing off guns and shouting all the way. Idiots. She thought as she lunged into the abandoned house, kicking the door shut before she gently lay Hiccup down on the ground before she flung her body against the wood, slamming it shut and leaning against it completely.
She grunted as another force slammed against her, nearly budging the door until she yanked the bow off her shoulder and shoving it in the door handle, successfully locking the door. At least for the moment…
Merida huffed as she fell to her knees next to her wounded friend, lifting up the blood soaked cloth to reveal a deep gash. Merida cursed and took the edge of her shirt between her teeth and ripped it into several long strips.
Hiccup groaned and winced, trying to sit up.
“Stay down, Haddock.” Merida ordered roughly despite her gentleness as she pushed him back onto the ground.
“Toothless?” He asked, cracking a green eye open at her.
Merida rolled her eyes as she began dressing the deep cut, slowly wrapping the dirt stained strips of cloth around his abdomen. Of course he’d be worried about that dumb dog. “Oh he’s fine.” Merida assured as she secured the bandages, “he found a nice little hiding spot.”
Hiccup just sighed, clearly not thinking too far into it. Merida smiled and brushed the hair out of his face, lifting his head onto her lap as she waited for the bangs on the door to cease. Merida tightened her fist, there was no way that they’d get their water, at least not while Merida was still standing.
Hiccup moaned and Merida quietly hushed him again. “Don’t worry, Hic.” She said, looking through the grit-covered window. “Hey,” she gave him a light slap on the cheek. “The sun is going down.” He weakly nodded and opened his eyes, staring at her tiredly. “That means they’ll leave soon.” She nodded towards the door, which had slowly quieted. Hiccup sighed something that Merida assumed was some snarky come back. Merida chuckled, “Just close your eyes.” She placed a hand on his cheek. “You’ll be alright.”
He simply nodded and let his eyes flutter shut. Merida let herself relax and leaned back against the wall, closing her eyes and gently stroking his cheek with her thumb.
No one can hurt you now.
Come morning light
You and I’ll be
Safe & Sound.
