SUPER late with this, but I’ve been sitting on a lot of “shipping material” from Year 6, Ch. 13! Seriously, this chapter did NOTHING to help me decide between Barnaby, Ben, or Merula for Emrys.
Also, yes, I took some...liberties with some of these scenes lol. There’s a lot of backstory between Emrys and these three that probably needs to be fleshed out lol. (Also, I realize I haven’t shown this yet, but Barnaby has also gotten a kiss from Emrys.)
Anyone else think it’s suspicious that the same kid keeps drinking the same “faulty” potion? Lol, Merula and Barnaby certainly do. Luckily for “Slytherin Student,” Emrys remains none the wiser.
I do feel bad for Snape, though. Idc what Jam City says, he knows what foolishness is going on in his classroom.

Murphy McNully: Year 2 - Year 3ish
First person that Emrys ever had a crush on at Hogwarts. They never became anything (unfortunately for her), but McNully was the first person that inspired Emrys to even start thinking about dating amongst the chaos that was trying to find her brother
Charlie Weasley: Year 4
Emrys’ crush on Charlie was about as bad as Rowan’s crush on Bill lol. For a while, she thought he might like her back, but for some reason, every time she brought up the idea of dates, he always managed to get them talking about dragons.
Ben Copper: Year 4 - Present
She didn’t know it at the time, but Ben has been crushing on her since Year 2. It isn’t until Year 4 when she started wondering why she had been so adamant about him attending the Celestial Ball (even though she didn’t end up going with him) and so upset at his declaration that he’d “given up on dating.” His transition into “New Ben” both worried and exhilarated her. As of now, she knows that he has feelings for her too, but there hasn’t been any resolve between them.
Barnaby Lee: End of Year 3 - Present
Let’s face it—Emrys has had it BAD for Barnaby since he took that first curse for her from Ismelda. She tried to deny it for a while (especially when she was trying to help Ismelda confess her feelings to Barnaby), but going to the Celestial Ball and later her first date with him made her realize how deeply she cared about him. He respects that her main focus is finding the Vaults and her brother and she appreciates his continued honesty about where his feelings are with her. He’s currently the only one of her current crushes that she can actually envision things working out with.
Merula Snyde: Year 5 - Present
Emrys first began to realize that she liked Merula when the two were forced to spend more time together for “Apprentice Training.” She’d always been annoyed with Merula’s one-sided rivalry toward her and had tried several times before to extend friendship to her, but Merula’s vulnerability in their 5th Year made Emrys start to feel something more. The two got even closer at the end of Year 5, though Merula is back to denying their bonding moment. Currently, Emrys is open to possibly being something more with Merula…if Merula would admit that she does actually care for Emrys.
BONUS CRUSHES:
She BRIEFLY had a crush on Jae in Year 5 simply because she spent so much time with him in detention, but it doesn’t go anywhere.
Also in Year 5, right after her duel with Diego, Emrys admitted to Merula to feeling some sort of an attraction to him (though she wasn’t concerned with it going much deeper than that).
Surprisingly, Emrys has never had a crush on Penny (though she definitely thinks that Penny is one of Hogwarts’ prettiest witches).
She also has never had a crush on Bill. This is due, in part, to her having a crush on Charlie and, of course, Rowan clearly having a thing for Bill.
Emrys had a habit of developing a crush on her older brothers’ friends (yes, Jacob is only one of three older brothers that Emrys has), so it was no surprise that she thought Duncan was a little cute when she first met him. This went nowhere (for obvious reasons lol).
While it never developed into a full crush, no one can deny that Emrys definitely had SOME kind of thing for Erika Rath.
It’s my personal headcanon that the “Poisoned Slytherin Student” in Potions and the “Struggling Gryffindor Kid” in Charms also have crushes on Emrys, which is why they’re constantly asking for “help” from her. She’s a little too dense to realize these crushes, though, so nothing comes of it lol.

I was gonna draw all of our Slytherin characters, but I remembered Merula during the Patronus TLSQ. Hoping we get the chance to see the self-proclaimed “Greatest Witch at Hogwarts” produce a corporeal Patronus one day!
Decisions, decisions. In the end, Emrys went with Barnaby, since he was the only one to actually huck up the courage to ask her. (Somehow, I’m STILL not sure if I ship her with him all the way or not lol.)
Also, Rowan, Merula is an option because I freakin’ LIVE for the enemies/rivals to friends to lovers trope!
