Hey so y'all I was thinking: internet friends au. No one knows what anyone looks like, till they all realize everyone lives in the same state, and no one's farther than like, a half hour away, or they're all traveling for something and happen to all end up in one hotel. just fyi in the merwitches au where Kiko uses true love’s kiss to demogrify Mona I headcanon that Mona ends up turning into a jellymaid type thing (like Ursula, but with...y’know. Jellyfish tentacles) and she CAN turn from a jellymaid into a human and vice versa, but its really hard and she usually ends up messing it up. 

Kiko doesn’t have the same problem because she was born half-mermaid and it’s pretty much 2nd nature to her at this point, so she comes and goes from the ocean as she pleases and it pisses Mona the hell off. Especially after they have a fight because Kiko will storm out onto land and Mona usually can’t follow her and she’s half convinced that Kiko’s gonna find an Ever prince/princess who “matches” her and fall in love with them instead and never come back. She obviously doesn’t but depending on how mad Kiko is Mona usually has plenty of time to sit and stew in the ocean by herself and imagine stuff
