Messier 74 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Pisces. It is about 32 million light-years away from the Earth and contains about 100 Billion stars. At the center of this galaxy lies a black hole that has a mass equal to about 10,000 of our suns. Spiral galaxies get their hurricane like shape from these black holes that reside at the center and spin all the mass of the galaxy around it as it rotates. Messier 74 is considered to have a low surface brightness, which makes it difficult for amateur astronomers to view in a backyard telescope.
