#Repost @dixzarugsorganicfarm (@get_repost) ・・・ Experiments with #naturaldyes. My mom, #LeonorLazoGonzales, a #master #zapotecweaver and #dyer is reducing waste buy using the left over dye of the #cochineal mixing it with #tageteslucida known to as as #pericón to produce unique color blends. <> <> <> Tagetes Lucida has entered North America as a #tarragon substitute with hints of anise (#mexicantarragon). Pericón is used to dye mustard shades but when combined with cochineal yields an orange color depending on the proportions of cochineal to pericón. Tagetes Lucida has been used in #traditionalmedicine in #Mexico and #CentralAmerica primarily to treat #stomachaches, #stomachcramps and #periodpain. In one study #methanolic extract from the flower inhibited growth of #staphylococcusaureus, #ecoli and #candidaalbicans cultures. This effect was enhanced with exposure to ultraviolet light. Tagetes lucida was used in #ancientmexico in a ritual #incense known as #yauhtli. The burnt plant is still used as a #natural #mosquitorepellent. The plant is also used by the #wixaritari people mixed with #nicotianarustica for its #psychotropic and #entheogenic effects. (at Dixza Rugs & Organic Farm)
