What would you have liked better: homemade beans or homemade Margaritas??? Eddie wanted to try to make beans that normally soak overnight in his new InstantPot. Planned our meal around that. So for me, as the sous chef and bartender, that meant Margaritas. I don’t like them sweet so no triple sec, and I didn’t have agave syrup and found a recipe online from Kitchn that replaced agave syrup with simple syrup (sugar and water) that I do keep on hand. The beans were a huge success, as was the Margarita and hubby asked for a second one after dinner. I had the one, but after dinner I opted for the tequila, Cazadores Reposado, on ice with just a little orange peel. The tequila had no burn - on the nose or mouth - and a lovely creamy quality on the palate. Ever since living in #NewYork I gotta say it has impacted me in someways. These are #Habichuelas (#RedBeans) aka #SpanishBeans 🇪🇸 and their #Smack. Unfortunately, since I'm back in #Cali; we don't have the luxury of having these hot and ready for us since there's hardly any #PuertoRicans out here and #MexicanBeans suck so you have to make it yourself. #IHateMexicanBeans #Boricuas 🇵🇷 are killing it in the #Bean game. #SorryMexicans. 🇲🇽 They have a couple of spots in the Mission District and Sol Food in San Rafael. I made these with turkey chunks. Most Puerto Ricans make it with pork. So be careful if you don't mess with the swine. I made that mistake before so I started getting them from the #Dominicans. #Boricua #PuertoRicanBeans
