im wheezing over Hugh falling through the window and Jack just smoothly APPEARING
@lucys-preston tumblr is REFUSING to show me this post when I try to click on it so allow me to tell you that I DO BELIEVE HE DOES.
Please watch Miss Fisher’s
continuously says he doesn’t want her involved with his investigations
still takes her hat and purse to hold when she steps in to star in interfering with his investigation with only the slightest bit of surprise
then looks at her like this
jfc Jack how did you ever think you could convince anyone you weren’t head over heels for this woman since you first met her
oh heeeeeeey. no big deal, but i want to die.
this is the face of someone who could almost unquestionably kill you in your sleep and get away with it. god help Hugh Collins.
ok but the way she says ‘come here’? just fucks me directly up? it’s so soft and gentle and indulging like ‘god help us. the great Detective Inspector Jack Robinson can’t even do his own tie let me handle this’ and she makes it seem so natural but at the same time Jack looks at her like this
when he realizes what she’s doing and it honest to goodness looks like the man is about to have a heart attack but then he still bows his head and lets her do it
it’s like the hat bow; he’s practically putty in her hands, she could do anything she likes with him and she’s still almost completely focused on the tie, almost strictly business but then he looks up and meets her eyes
and you can see that she’s a goner. god would i go so far as to argue that this is the moment she started to realize how romantic her feelings for him actually are? yes, probably and then satan George interrupts and like....
you can see it. because there have been so many instances of Jack being the one overcome with his feelings that he falters or flounders but this is so clearly an instance where he’s got the upper hand, so to speak. or at the very least, he’s the one who manages to maintain his composure enough to pull away slightly and look at George. look at Phryne; it’s like she doesn’t even know there’s anyone else in the room. her hands are still on his tie; her eyes are still fixed on where his lips would have been; she looks almost mesmerized. and how often have we seen the honorable Phryne Fisher look like that?
and then she finally does notice George and he’s making a snide comment seriously fuck you George and she looks.....almost embarrassed? which is just not a word used to describe Phryne Fisher very often? she still almost looks like she’s just been shook out of a daze and she doesn’t even really move away from Jack - he has to kind of buffer her away and then duck behind her to fix his tie - it’s like she still hasn’t quite realized the moment is over. and Jack of course has reason to be embarrassed - his boss and former father-in-law just caught him looking very cozy and domestic with another woman (not that he owes George anything but it’s....it’s still not fun). and Phryne might just be feeding off of the awkward situation that Jack’s now in but that’s not what her face says
and George gets all snippy and Jack looks at her like he’s almost expecting a look or a grin or a cheeky comeback but that’s not what he gets at all. she looks......i can’t think of a better word than chided? like she’s been caught with her hand in the cookie jar - or wrapped up in Jack Robinson’s tie, as the case may be - like she’s been doing something she shouldn’t be. touching something she shouldn’t. wanting something she shouldn’t. (which is absolutely ridiculous and we know it. because Jack Robinson is still every bit as in love with Phryne Fisher as he has been since day one and would be with her in a heartbeat. but she doesn’t know that. the last time they talked about their romantic feelings; really talked about them instead of making innuendos or teasing, he told her that he couldn’t work with her any more because his feelings for her were so strong and intense that he couldn’t handle watching her put herself in danger. and then the went through a horrible case but seemingly got their groove back and Phryne, having no frame of reference for this sort of thing, for falling for and loving someone you already have such a strong connection with, most likely fell back on the idea that he had gotten over his feelings, or they had lessened, or something had happened so that his romantic interest in her was outweighed by his platonic and professional interest. and now as far as she knows - because they really have fallen back into their old pattern - she’s the one having unwanted emotions. she’s the one who’s threatening their partnership with these sudden feelings, this sudden longing for more, for something further than what they already have. and she’s seen what that almost did to their relationship before, and she can’t be sure that he feels the same about her now as he did then, and she certainly can’t take the risk to act on these feelings if she doesn’t know how he’ll react, because she cannot stand even the thought of losing their partnership again)
and she looks at Jack and then looks at George and then back at Jack really quickly and then she’s ‘on her way out’ and the look she gives George almost makes her seem apologetic? which is also rare for her. but it’s almost like she’s looking at George like ‘please don’t read into this. please don’t think it was something it’s not. please don’t hold this against him in any way’ which is preposterous because it’s not at all for George to have any say in what Jack does or who he does it with but he’s still his boss and he still respects him and she doesn’t want to ruin that even in a small way because she got carried away and started feeling things she shouldn’t. and then she scurries out of the room, without a passing comment to George, or a teasing farewell to Jack i mean, she comes back as soon as George is gone, but still and wow is that unlike her. and basically this moment is a moment and i didn’t appreciate it enough the first time around so here’s some long rambling thoughts, hooray.
