Shigaraki's Eyebrows?

I think I can see them!

Spoilers (I guess???) for chapter 379 (& 148) below.

Amongst all the scratch marks/scars around his eyes, I see them protruding at the top there.

How long has it been? 231 chapters maybe?

I’ve been reading so many fics...as one does, and one of the things I’m realizing and that I hope will be resolved once more of the villains side of things is animated is that people are taking the league at face value rather than all it’s become. They talk about tomura’s immaturity, and how the league just wants to make violence without having ideals. But when his team nearly rebelled on him after magne’s death toga asked him why she and twice had to join the yakuza, and he said “You’re doing it for me, you, and all of us”, he told her that he thought the leauge could be more, and that he believed in the two of them (chapter 148).

Compared to his first appearance when he just wanted to use sheer disposable numbers to kill allmight in a flash, he took a small group of individuals and turned them into a unit, he pushes them and they push him right back. He isn’t immature, he just didn’t know what to do because as much as all for one said he prepared him for the world, he really only prepared him as a means to his own ends, thinking in terms of allmight and simply erradicating allmight. And as much as allmight is part of the problem, shigaraki being on his own let him look more at the big picture and what was wrong with society as a hole. 

However, even when he first showed up he said that allmight being a pillar for society made it weaker, that they relied on allmight and ceased thinking for and defending themselves. All of this is true especially in the light of the events from chapter 281 where it reveals mini shigaraki walking around on the streets and everyone just thinking “someone, a police officer, a hero someone will save him” helping someone became a job rather than a moral obligation, so he was onto something back then he just didn’t know how to go about solving the issue. 

I’m not saying he does know what to do right now, hes honestly kinda going on a rampage, but he has ideals, and hes not being violent for violence sakes, that would be like saying the blm protests are just people being violent. Its people who have been oppressed and abused saying they can’t take it anymore, its hurt people asking to stop be hurt and then realizing that asking won’t help because the people in charge don’t care it’s hurt people trying to stop being hurt and prevent other people from being hurt too. 

Shigaraki isn’t a child and he isn’t stagnant, he grew and developed and he always knew more than he let on, he just didn’t know how to express what he knew because of severe isolation caused by all for one grooming him to be a villain and severe anxiety (apparent by his neck scratching). Talking in video game terms wasn’t just being immature, it was him trying to express what he was seeing and knowing in the only language he knew how to at the time. 

He’s twenty years old, he killed his family on accident, he was taken in and psychologically abused by the greatest villain to ever live, he doesn’t know how to communicate, and he knows that the world isn’t working, and his abuser always just told him that if he didn’t like something to destroy it, with his quirk this was easy, so he just applied that theory to everything, destroy society because it upset him, but its more than that now, he has reasonable thought and human connections, hes grown and hes going to create real change whether heroes want him to or not. 

The league taught him how to be human, and he taught them how to tear society apart.

My Hero Academia Chapter 148

So I’ve been asked by several of my followers if I could review MHA after Fairy Tail. Well here’s my first ever MHA review. Chapter 148 “The sorrows of young Togaice”

Our Chapter opens up on Deku tending to Aizawa, but Aizawa is more focused on getting Lockrock some help. Also we see that Lockrock’s Deadbolt may be wearing off, as the walls start moving again.

We cut to Nighteye vs Twice

Twice send his clone of Rappa at Nighteye, but Nighteye is able to take him down with only getting grazed.

We see that Nighteye uses “Hypermass seals” along with his fighting style. Nighteye basically explains with his prediction he was able to handle Rappa’s speed. This is something I really like. It really shows that even with a non offensive quirk there are ways heroes can help their combat style

Okay, I know Nighteye was All Might’s sidekick, so I expected him to be in good shape, but it doesn’t detract from how badass this scene is. Oh it’s pretty standard shounen, with the shirt busted open and everything, but It’s still so cool seeing Nighteye in a ruined suit and showing off his washboard abs.

Nighteye hits Twice damaging his mask. Which causes him to start breaking apart.

Oh my god... That is so sweet. I mean , yes these are villains, but as you’ll soon see this chapter’s strength really is in humanizing the league of villains.

We see Toga start trying to comfort Twice not only over this Yakuza situation, but also how he feels responsible for taking Overhaul to meet Shigaraki. We then get a flash back.

We see Shigaraki telling Twice and Toga that are now Yakuza. Twice of course is naturally a little peeved.

I’ve got nothing to add... This is just a great scene. We see how much Twice still bears resentment for the Yakuza and how he can’t believe that after what they did Shigaraki is working with them and give him and Toga to Overhaul like pawns. The art of the panel, with all the black and shadows really highlights the emotion felt by Twice.

Again another great scene. We get to see more human aspects of Toga and see what this league means to her. This is just an amazing humanization of villains who are still clearly doing wrong, but we’re able to sympathize with them a lot more.

We then get a scene from Shigaraki. (Wow that smile sure is a lot more pleasant than the one he gave Deku) And he knows that Overhaul really only views them as pawns, but he also knows they are going to be in the way of the League’s goals.

We get a small flash forward

“I believe in you” words you wouldn’t expect from a villain

Well this revitalizes Toga and Twice and they begin to voice their opinions on the Yakuza and their boss, with Irinaka listening. And like all individuals who are subjected to listening to opinins they don’t like, Irinaka acts accordingly

Our chapter ends with Irinaka just saying, ‘fuck it’ and wants them to all kill each other.

Post Chapter followup: My god, this was amazing.

The biggest strength as I said was the humanization of villains this chapter. All these characters like Toga, Twice, and Shigaraki, who’ve all been presented in this villainous light, we now start seeing there is this loyality and love between them all. The stuff with Shigaraki makes a great juxtaposition with Overhaul and how he quite literally sees his men as expendable.

It’s not just the villains, this chapter is able to balance out giving Nighteye a cool spotlight moment. In  fact, this whole chapter is just brilliantly paced.

The twist at the end with Irinaka having enough of this and wants them all to kill each other, is again great.

There really isn’t anything negative I can say.

Boku no Hero Academia 148:

I’m kinda proud of Shigaraki. He’s not going to let them be subjugate by the yakuza. He’s playing by their rules now but It seems they plan to help the heroes in the end.

He looks nice without a hand covering his face.

Toga and Twice had some cute moments together.
