You hadn’t meant to, honestly.
What have you ever done to warrant such misfortune? All you'd wanted to do was to find a quiet spot in school away from the bustling crowds of students to study. But now you find yourself being at the mercy of the BOYNEXTDOOR Host Club.
Crash!
A crystal vase, probably worth millions, lay at your feet, its shattered pieces glistening mockingly at you. The silence that followed was deafening, the air was thick with disbelief and your own clumsiness.
Jaehyun’s eyes narrowed as he smirked. "That was worth at least eight million won,"
You paled. “I-I can pay you back… in installments. Over like… several centuries?” You bury your face in your hands in embarrassment.
Sungho snorted. "Or... you could work it off."
"...As what?"
"A host," Taesan used his hands to mimic a lever, or an errand boy."
"Errand...boy?" You tilted your head in confusion, and that was when the realisation hit: they thought you were a boy!
Before you could protest to both options, the twins—Taesan and Leehan, nearly identical grins plastered on their faces—stepped in, one on each side.
Jaehyun lifts one side of your mouth, " Can you smile a bit more? that frown doesn't suit you" he swipes your bang to the side and takes off your glasses. " it's unfortunate really, your only option might be an errand-"
Before he could finish, he turned sharply to Riwoo, "call the stylist!" he grins, "this boy has potential!"
You were then whisked off to the dressing room next door, for a quick makeover, trimmed bangs, proper uniform, and a light dust of makeup across your face.
You were a natural, charming customers left and right. Before you knew it, Jaehyun was getting jealous of your popularity. He was convinced that you had some type of trick up your sleeve, and he was determined to find out what.
It happened on a Tuesday.
The club room was filled with its usual gleam—crystal chandeliers, soft music, the scent of overpriced peonies, and BOYNEXTDOOR host club members entertaining customers. You were balancing a tray of strawberry parfaits for a particularly high-maintenance table when Riwoo tilted his head and said,"Hey, what's your real name anyway?"
You raised an eyebrow at him. “I’ve told you. It’s Y/N.”
“No, no,” Jaehyun waved a hand dismissively from the sofa. “Your full name. We need it for club activities. ”
“Oh! Yeah, of course.” You set the tray down, wiped your hands, and pulled out your student ID from your pocket. “Here.”
Silence.
“Wait a minute" Sungho squinted at the card like it was written in a foreign language. “This says... ‘F.’ for female?”
He passed the card to Leehan, who choked. “Wait—wait—what?”
Jaehyun leaned over his shoulder, eyes narrowing. “You’re... a girl?”
You blinked. “Uh. Yeah?”
Taesan nearly fell off his chair. “But—but you said your name was y/n!”
You frowned. “It is y/n."
“No, I mean," he waved his hands in the air with disbelief, "you wore the uniform-"
“That’s because you gave it to me.” you deadpanned.
“But you didn't protest!" Jaehyun exclaims as if he got personally betrayed by this piece of news.
You pause, "I don't mind it, being fawned by girls i mean"
The room went dead quiet.
A beat.
Then Leehan let out a loud snort. "We’re actual idiots."
"I knew something was off!" Taesan blurted. “That time you said my new keychain was 'adorable', I should have known!"
Jaehyun was still staring at your ID like it had betrayed him personally,"Why didn’t you say anything?!" he dramatically places a hand on his forehead.
You crossed your arms and furrowed your eyebrows. "You never asked. You just handed me a uniform, gave me a nickname, and threw me in front of customers with a debt over my head."
He opened his mouth. Closed it. Opened it again to protest. "Okay, that’s... fair."
"You know what," Riwoo sighed, flopping backward onto the couch. "Honestly? I respect the hustle. She’s been pulling better customer numbers than half of us."
You shrugged. “Thanks, I guess.”
Jaehyun stared at you like you were some kind of puzzle he suddenly couldn’t solve. "This whole time… we thought we were mentoring some quiet, clumsy freshman boy. But no. We were played by the smartest girl in school."
You smirked. “If I'm that great, you should just let me off the hook..."
Upon hearing that, everyone turns towards you in unison, "No chance."
Oh well, you tried.
Who knows? This could become more fulfilling than you thought it would be.
