Just this friday, despite anticipating for a super typhoon to make a landfall, we still went through our plans to attend the Manila International Book Fair. Actually, this is my first time coming to the said event ‘cause I rarely make an effort to go out of my comfort zone (I’m not fond of commuting, especially to far places). I found another weakness in the form of books and I’m happy that I agreed to come along, instead of wither away in my unit. When we got there, some already have their carts full of books that I wonder if they’re going to buy them all (‘cause let’s be honest, despite the sale, the books are still expensive, especially for a broke, college student like me). All I did was roam around, read the synopsis of some books, while crying internally that I couldn’t buy them.
Anyways, we proceeded to the second floor where the Book Binge Bazaar was and the cheapest books of the bunch were. Managed to buy 2 books (don’t be deceived by the books on the picture ‘cause not all of those are mine lol), namely, Before I Fall (haven’t watched the movie ‘cause it doesn’t appeal to me yet) and Red Queen (which I randomly picked out ‘cause it says The #1 New York Times Bestselling Novel).
Then, we ate at Tokyo Tokyo before leaving MOA. Initially, we also made plans to watch Goyo but one of us needed to go home already, so that leaves me and my friend, Mau. We watched Goyo at SM Manila for P150 (present your school ID when buying tickets so you can avail the student discount applicable to all cinemas).
On a scale from 1-10, 10 being the highest, I will give Goyo a 7. I wasn’t exactly disappointed, but I felt like the movie was lacking. I know Goyo is a promiscuous man and this is his story, but I expected more action (I mean, this is war, right?). There are a lot of good scenes, however, like the one with Art Acuña as Manuel Bernal (hands down to him for such an amazing act) then there was also the part where Goyo was shot out of nowhere which eventually led him to his death (that scene gave me chills). Also, I like the cinematography, most especially the scene underwater where Goyo was drowning ‘cause he was being haunted by his nightmares while swimming in the lake in the middle of the night.
