how many goddamn male self inserts have we lived through that are considered high art and phenomenal characters? serious, worthwhile narratives that win awards and line their pockets? how many men have been out there self inserting onto their heroic characters who always come out on top? and that's fine and dandy. it's appreciated. 'write what you know' is lauded as good, legitimate advice, but as soon as a queer woman shows up and writes out a queer storyline, people get up in arms?

i don't agree with all her writing or showrunner choices. i have a lot of criticisms of various plotlines and decisions that have taken place, but i will always, ALWAYS commend her for being a queer woman, stepping into a deeply het show, and sticking her neck out for our community to be the change she wants to see

anyone demonizing her for that can talk to both my arsecheeks. queer people deserve to have our stories told and seen. y'all haven't had enough straight representation? in the (formerly) straight people regency show? where our only queer rep previous to her were characters like Granville living in the shadows or Reynolds and Brimsley, where his scene dancing alone in QC is considered one of the most tragic of the franchise?

fuck outta here. i applaud jess for showing up and taking the chances she did that made franchaela possible. and people can pretend that they give any modicum of care for women who experience infertility (they don't, because they're using us as canon fodder meat shields in their homophobia. and i say US very meaningfully because surprise: queer women can also be infertile) or the original storyline from the books (they also don't, it's not a particularly beloved series, and ALL the narratives have been changed), but i see through them.

they're mad that a show that catered to them near exclusively, that, despite diverse casting, often became a safe place for trad wife ideology, conservative thinking, and het!breeding kink, will have this ONE THING, this ONE pairing, that cannot in any way be seen to cater to them. and to that i say: die mad about it.

i hope the entire writing team is composed of queer women, specifically queer black women, and they make S5 beautiful and moving and queer as HELL and all the whiners and homophobes and racists cry buckets about it
