La rarely battles outside a few miles distance from a town with a Pokémon center due to easy access to resupply necessary (and her bank), especially after a battle, no matter if she loses or wins. Since she needed some supplies from the other young man, Michael Thompson, she suggested instead of money, she could get some of his supplies if she won. If she loses, she will give was he asking of her (she gave the okay after hearing him out).
They agree, battled, but...she lost though she's impressed with his skill. The only good thing is that there's no one to witness what they are about to do.
