In recession, craft beer brews a strong economy

This year saw an 11 percent increase in craft beer sales nationally. To learn how Chicago stacks up as a brewing town we spoke with Gabriel Magliaro, founder and president Half Acre Beer Company.

Session Black Lager

Full Sail Brewing Co. Oregon Premium Black Lager 1.50 per 11oz. bottle (Craft Beer Cellar)

5.6 ABV

Something about this tiny little bottle just drew me in. It's got the old timey feel of Red Stripe, but it's small enough to fit in your breast pocket.

Lovely dark amber colour, almost looks like a frothy merlot in the right light. Deep malty aroma. Taste has strong toasted malt flavors and a caramel finish. On the whole this is a very smooth drinking beer -- I would almost liken it to a light stout, if such a thing exists. It's not as bold as a good stout, but also not as filling; I could see my self drinking a few of these over a nice steak dinner without having to be rolled out of the restaurant. 

I'd give this a B/B+ and I would probably buy it again.

Smash Ya Bottle

Sunday I got up with my brother in law and made another batch of Idiot Bock. This shit is special edition, and will be for sale on the low-low. So low that I decided to broadcast its expected birth on cyberspace. ATF is squaring that heavy ram up to my shit as we speak.

The beer itself is a Bock-styled ale. We at Smash Television and unnamed brewing company understand that Bocks are lagers. We also understand that we are cheap, impatient and lazy, like America. Therefore, we have created a Bock for the soft minded, simple, chip-fed, pock-marked, too-cynical-to-be-anything-but-nihilistic television generation. And Idiot Bock. A fake, false, lazy, half assed bock.

Shit is strong and tasty. 

Details surrounding the conceptual release of said product is yet to be solidly decided, but rest assured, despite legal ramifications, Smash Telly will be getting your ass tore back.
