Chevrolet Corvette C8
Suzuki RS/1-3 Concept 1985-87
Was a 2-seater sportswear with a tube frame chassis with floors and bulkheads constructed from aluminium honeycomb and fitted with a Fibreglass body.Power comes from a traverse, mid-mounted 4-cyl 1298 cc DOHC engine with 5-speed manual transmission.
Displayed in 1985 with a revised model RS/3 in 1987.
The prototype design was later to find its way into production in 1992 with Mazda's Autozam brand called the AZ-1 with a turbo-charged 4-cyl 657cc DOHC (64hp) engine with 5-speed manual transmission. Also available from Suzuki as the Cara.
Pre-production prototypes were displayed in three types:
Type A, with pop-up headlights, front air vent and gull-wing doors.
Type B, featuring glass pyramid roof, large head lights and was the only model that more conventional forward hinged doors.
Type C, larger air intake and other minor modifications.
The Type A would only receive minor design alteration prior to production, but now with a steel chassis and fixed headlights.
With an economic recession and the AZ-1 being considered too expensive and failing to reach sales targets, production ended in 1994 with less than 5000 cars sold.
Special cars with body-kits were produced by Mazdaspeed & M2 Incorporated, to help sell unsold stock.
