I was the one sending the last ask. It's kind of a long story, but here it goes. I'm a Iraqi girl living in the Netherlands. I'm also born here. I have an Armenian boyfriend who lives here almost his entire life. His parents have trouble accepting me as his girlfriend. They would rather wanted an Armenian girl. His parents don't speak dutch that well which makes it even more difficult for me and my bf. Do you guys have any advice on how to improve the relationship between me and his parents?
my parents are the same way with it comes to things like this especially when it comes to things like outside ethnicity (and i’m assuming religion?) and personally would prefer me to marry a persian/iranian (we’re persian-iranian & shia), and they’re also really strict parents and maintaining culture and language is really important especially amongst ethnic/religious minorities in the region. (we tend to keep it within what we are) so i’m going to just suggest what i think would be helpful if it were about my family:
1) show that you’re accepting of and willing to learn more about our culture/religion
2) invite my parents to do things together (all of us go out to dinner every now and then)
3) be patient
if our followers ave any suggestions then please feel free to add on

Your HALF black.
I don't know if I'm the only biracial/multiracial person who goes through this but, recently I've noticed that if you are half black, you aren't black. You are mixed, UNTIL, you do something amazing then you are black. I'm sorry but, you didn't want me when I wasn't important but now you do? Don't take half of my race away because it's convenient for you to label me black. I'm mixed, with Syrian, Lebanese, and Turkish on one side and, black on the other. Don't label me otherwise. As a mixed child growing up neither community wanted. The black community rejected me for being half middle eastern. The middle eastern community rejected me for being black. The moment I do something amazing tho? "Middle eastern..." "African American..." C'mon you guys. It's fucking ridiculous the shit biracial people go through. Just accept them, love them. They need love. Some biracial people get hit from both sides, and that isn't right. Just love them.
I really don’t need Europeans to point out our cultural issues to me.
First - we do know them. But it’s neither your place to point it out to us nor is it your job to ‘save’ us.
Fuck off, there’s a reason why we critizise it.
We were raised in them, we know the struggle, we know how it’s like.
But you, on the other hand, don’t know what you’re talking about.
You were never raised in it, you never expirienced it. Your critizism is based on racism and xenophobia, because you’re only critizising what you hear from others without knowing how it’s like. Assuming that these parts of our culture are the only (relevant) ones.
Do you know how much harder your critizism makes it for us Middle Eastern girls?
Because we’re either accused of wanting to leave our culture, our religion or wanting to become Westeners.
It’s so goddamn annoying, it’s not bad enough that we have it already harder because of the patriachal structures within our culture. You just make it harder for us to even achieve something.
Do you know how many times my parents accused me of wanting to become European? Do you know how often I was accused of wanting to abandon my culture?
It stresses me so much.
