The 2014 Elections are less than 100 days away, so what better way to exercise your civic duty than by voting, and encouraging people to vote.
Students,
If you are 18 years old and older by Tuesday, November 4th, 2014, PLEASE VOTE at the 2014 Midterm Elections! It is extremely important that you take advantage of your right to vote and this article explains why. Check out reason #4 (my favorite) to see how to get paid for voting or time off from school!
You can register to vote online via your Secretary of State's website (California's site is http://registertovote.ca.gov/) or pick up paper Voter Registration Forms at your county election office, post offices, DMVs, public libraries, and other government offices. If you do not know where any of these places are located, GOOGLE THEM!
For middle school and high school students under 18:
You can still participate by volunteering at election polls (must be 16 years to be a Student Poll Worker), spreading the word, or by voting in student mock elections if available in your state. Check your Secretary of State's website to see if they host them. California students can participate in the MyVote California Student Mock Election on October 28th, 2014. Details here: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/studentmockelection.htm

Did you know that Social Media is a skill? Yes! Understanding how sites like Facebook and Twitter work can be a very valuable skill in the Communications and Marketing aspects of businesses, nonprofits, government agencies and more!
Did you know the Obama’s have Instagram accounts? Yep, you can follow them at @barackobama and @michelleobama ! This is a great way for people to stay up to date, see what’s happrning, and start political conversations. It’s pretty cool!
Most middle, high school, and college students all have at least one social media platform. Just by using it daily, you can develop your knowledge. For example, posting up to 140 characters on Twitter, pictures of daily life on Instagram, and relatable boards of things you like on Pinterest.
Idea: Create a Facebook page for your school club to attract potential members, promote fundraisers, and show everybody what your club is about! This will look so great on your college and job applications!
Peace!
