Through our Much More Than A Hashtag initiative, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. emphasize Voter Registration and Deputization during the third quarter of the year. Why do we emphasize the importance of voting? Because until 1965 with the passing of the Voting Rights Act, African Americans were met with many obstacles when it came to voting. Sadly, now in 2020, our communities are treated with the same respect as our ancestors when the 15th Amendment was passed. There are areas that look for opportunities to obscure our right to vote in any place they can find! Voting keeps democracy alive. We Reflect The Votes: If we do not vote, we fall short of our voices and actions being heard. We are quick to complain about why certain people are in positions. However, those that complain are the ones that vote without performing the required candidate research or don’t vote at all. Exercise your citizenship and take action by casting your vote. We Have To Educate Young Voters: Individuals between 18-24 years old are positioned to be a powerful force, because they can make up the majority of the votes that are lost. Young voters have a future, and it is important to educate them on how their future relies on voting. Within this age bracket, education plays into getting their degrees and funding from states. Votes Are Tied To Our Lives: Voting impacts our lives from our health, social services, employment, and living. If we don’t take voting seriously, the things that we need in our lives will be affected. #Registertovote #MuchMoreThanAHashtag #IVote #IotaPhiTheta #SigmaGammaRho https://www.instagram.com/p/CCH3e0VHKnI/?igshid=19r8w2fkmwfie
