The first Teddy Bears were sold in 1902. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, while on a hunting trip, refused to shoot a bear cub. The Washington Post printed the story with a cartoon. An enterprising storekeeper saw the marketing opportunity and called toy bears "Teddy's bear". 🐻 I wonder what Pres. Roosevelt will think now that Pres. Trump is expected to sign into law H.J. Res. 69, which nullifies federal protection for hibernating bears, other pedators and their cubs on Alaska's national preserves.
