This post was brought to you by my own self-indulgence into the thesis statement that is: What would be the heights of all the hedgehogs if they weren’t boosted by heels? And how tall would they be after puberty?
So this was the product of my personal venture.
Canon heights (plus the differentiating shoe types):
Amy = 90 cm*
Sonic, Shadow & Silver = 100 cm
(*Looking at Amy’s model to the height chart is bizarre to me. Disregarding the added height from her heels for a moment, she looks like she should be regarded as 95 cm at least…)
Since all of all the hedgehogs but Sonic are shown to have heels to their shoes in some way, I will be cutting down that height by roughly converting their shoes into sneakers since they’ll never NOT be wearing shoes (note: it’s mostly guesstimates).
Ignore me playing around with Shadow’s shoes in this one lmao
Anyways, after some editing, this was the final result I got. The way they measure the 3D models are p weird, and I came to notice that Silver has slightly smaller eyes and lowered ears to acommodate for his quill crown look, so that makes things slightly harder for my naked eye.
By height order, Sonic (trusting that his shoes aren’t elevating him more than necessary) would be the tallest at the default 100 cm + shoes. He would be considered the oldest at 16 since he technically had an in-world birthday but let’s just say he’d be months older than Shadow.
2nd tallest is Silver at ~98 cm + shoes. His back heel was 2-3 cm, so cutting it down results in him being rather unchanged — which I find interesting considering you’d figure he’d be shorter from being second youngest of the group (and the whole bad future sitch which doesn’t inspire a likelihood that he’d have consistent food servings for optimal growth). If his genes can get him near the height of Sonic in spite of inconsistent food source, I’d wager he might end up the tallest in the future.
3rd place is Shadow at ~95 cm + shoes. His hover shoes gave him 6 cm max of extra height. Taking into account his shoes structure which seemed to resemble the structure of rollerblades (which shaped itself around the foot of the wearer), I gave him a couple inches of soles when putting him in running shoes. He’s probably of average height for a 15 yr old male mobian hedgehog, but considering he was artificially made and apparently ages slowly physically — I get the sense that he might not grow that much in time, if at all.
4th place is Amy at… okay this one was funky. Amy in the initial reference wasn’t measured under the same standard the others were (y’know... by their heads…). So in spite of being said to be 90 cm, I’ll just say that in this instance, Amy was 95 cm plus heeled boots. Thus, the resulting removal of those heels, led to Amy being 90 cm. Honestly, considering she’s a 12 yr old female mobian hedgehog, and is only has a 10 cm gap apart from the current tallest who’s already in the midst of his teen years — she’s probably of average height for her age and sex. She will likely end up reaching at least 95 cm (all confirmed 14 yr old and over female mobians have reached 95 cm) — whether she goes over that height is anyone’s guess.
In summary…
If I were to predict how the hedgehog height chart will be past their growth spurts… I’d say without any changes to their current lifestyles, Silver will overtake Sonic and reach 115 cm, while Sonic reaches 105 cm, Shadow will be in a stasis of 95 cm, and Amy would probably be at 95 cm (since without other female hedgehog mobians in the games to really draw a comparison on, she’s best presumed to just end up in the average height).
One detail I keep coming back to is whether I should call to question the Amy’s height disparity from the references I gathered. Iirc the models here are pretty accurate to what I see in cutscenes between Sonic and Amy height wise. 90 cm makes sense for Amy’s natural height to Sonic, but adding her heels should explain away why her game model is taller than 90 cm. But given canon heights are usually incorporating characters’ heels into them — it makes this isolated incident all the more jarring.
Sigh... -inhales-
“AMY IN HEELS SHOULD CANONICALLY BE 95 CM COME AT ME—“
so here’s a hot take I kinda hate the way Jon Snow learns about his real parentage and by kinda I mean yeah
here’s my thing: Jon finally knows his mother’s identity, and it should have been his moment, but instead any emotional satisfaction from learning what he’s spent his entire lifetime wanting to know is immediately overshadowed by Iron Throne bullshit — like seriously he hardly gets a second to soak in the fact that his entire childhood was a lie before it’s like: “SO yeah buddy you’re king, fuck Daenerys, and unless she’s willing to give up her crown 0.34 seconds after hearing this news, she’s a tyrannical lunatic”
so Jon’s forced to question his entire identity—particularly as a bastard which defined his entire existence growing up—while also having to deal with the fact that his girlfriend is his aunt and she unknowingly ordered the death of his best friend’s family + he’s heir to a crown he’s never wanted or cared about
and you just know that Bran orchestrated that shitty timing too because fuck if I know what’s going on in Bran’s head
Ok so, just rewatched Violet Evergarden all over again, And got to say, that ending was so vague yet subtle that I completely forgot it.Â
(This is not gonna be a structurally-sound rant, just a disclaimer for anyone that actually reads this.)
So, ignoring the special and the movie (that came out just last year), the season officially ends with this little scene of Violet walking up to the home of a no-named individual to write as per usual.
She does her decade’s version of “Hi I’m Connor the android sent by Cyberlife”Â
But she pauses. And she looks so stunned... only to smile so warmly. At who we the audience can only assume is the person standing before her. And just by going off reaction alone, on the surface....
...maybe this was her beloved Major?
But then... It wouldn’t make so much sense narratively-speaking. This whole show focused on Violet overcoming her past and starting a new life of her own separate from orders and an exploitative environment, plus dealing with the major loss of the one she loved most.Â
That, and it wouldn’t make sense logically. All this time, these characters were so certain that he was dead. Even if he was truly “MIA”, this show had established itself as being grounded in logic. So to even suggest, that somehow, for some inexplicable reason, Major Gilbert survived the explosion against all odds, consciously decided to abandon Violet, basically tricked the world including his friends and family that he’s dead, and chose to wait nearly a year before he made his presence known to only Violet... It just wouldn’t do the show or character any good if that were the case.
It’d be “Captain America choosing to be with Peggy yet apparently doing nothing during the majorly bad events that took place in history/MCU” levels of unpleasant.
I haven’t watched any theory videos or public analysis discussing this yet, but I think there are multiple possibilities that Violet got abruptly shocked. I’ll look into each of these possibilities in the order as follows:
- the unexpected survival of some other character we’ve met
- a friend that she wouldn’t have expected would request for her/request in general
-Â an old friend/a rarely-referenced or appeared-in-show friend
-Â the change in appearance of someone she knows
-Â two kids in a trenchcoatÂ

1) The unexpected survival of some other character we’ve met
If we were to look at all the characters that have appeared in the show and could’ve been presumed as dead, we would have; Aiden (from the Ctrigal war ep). Yep, that’s the only notable and closest thing to realistic option we have.
Only glaring issue here is.... Violet knows for a fact that he’s dead, he died right in front of her... so he is in no way alive. So this theory’s debunked.
2) A friend that she wouldn’t have expected would request for her/request in general
Violet at this point in time only considers her coworkers as friends, her boss, some of her clients; Princess Charlotte, Luculia (technically was her client), Leon (scholar from the observatory episode) and Anne Magnolia (little girl w/ deceased mom).
Quick fire round. None of her coworkers or boss would go through the trouble of requesting her under a pen name just to get her to write for them, Princess Charlotte wouldn’t be living separately from her husband in some unassuming house, Luculia isn’t a friend that would elicit shock from Violet for requesting her (and the likelihood of her moving to a new house wouldn’t make sense narratively and realistically), Leon’s more likely travelling then settling down (he’s not the type to have anyone in particular to write to anyway), and Anne never moved (her episode literally disproved any possibility of her ever changing house). So this theory’s dead too.
3) An old friend/a rarely-referenced or appeared-in-show friend
Violet has no previous relationships other than the Major. No dice, not even gonna humor it.
4) A change in appearance of someone she knows
This wouldn’t make sense since Violet’s a very stoic person. Something as insignificant as someone she knew getting a haircut or dressed up out of character wouldn’t get her shocked silent that she stopped her iconic greeting. This reason alone wouldn’t make sense for her character.
5) Two kids in a trenchcoat
Violet has grown to have a notable soft spot for children. While developing empathy, she’s shown to connect with children; whether it’d be substituting as a temporary mother figure for the lonely Anne Magnolia, encouraging the childlike Princess Charlotte to write her own letter to her love, to teaching the spirited Taylor Bartlett how to read and write. I wouldn’t be surprised if children have a higher likelihood of making Violet smile.
Which is why is see this theory actually being possible, seeing as the client(s) that meets Violet stands to eye level with her directly looking at the camera [equivalent of mystery client(s)’s eyes]. Only thing that contradicts is that trenchcoats haven’t been invented yet, presuming that this world vaguely ties to real life history.
In the VE movie, the increased presence of automobiles and the notable construction of the Eiffel Tower would indicate that the time the events of this movie take place in is around 1888 (where the first floor of the Eiffel Tower has been constructed). However, trenchcoats were invented around the time of WWI (1920s). Luckily, a man by the name of Thomas Burberry, invented “gabardine” in 1879.
This might as well have been the 1800s equivalent of trenchcoats.Â
So, surprise surprise. The two kids in a trenchcoat theory was a no-go. However, I think we’ve reached a sound verdict.

Conclusion
The mysterious client in the last scene of Violet Evergarden, are two kids in a gabardine. Case closed.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
People come and go, and they choose to resurface again for and at their convenience. Too often I have people walking out of my life, only to walk in again like they have never left. Like things can go back to the way it was before they left.
I have learnt to accept these as part of life. There are always beliefs not worth fighting against, people not worth fighting for.
I don’t believe in second chances (anymore), because I have been proven that those I had given had been taken for granted. The same people, the same pattern of behaviour.
If you choose to leave, don’t expect to return. Some things can never “unhappen”, and I can’t find an ounce of graciousness in me to live and let live where I’m concerned.
So I’m letting go of those who have forsaken me. In good times and bad times - both yours and mine.
