Mielikki, Mistress of the Forest, goddess of nature, "is always dressed in a green gossamer gown, even in the coldest of winters, and is always surrounded with summer songbirds. She watches over rangers and all creatures of the forest (especially dryads). She has been known to summon huge packs of wolves and flights of hawks to attack despoilers of the forest." Her worshippers include any people of any good alignment. (Jim Roslof from the Finnish Mythos section of AD&D Deities & Demigods by Ward and Kuntz, TSR, 1980)
Long ago, before the bishops begun their crusade for power, were four seasonal gods; the three oldest, lost to time, were Devaki (goddess of summer & prosperity), Keshet (goddess of spring & fertility), and Mielikki (god of autumn & the wild). The goddess of winter, Yngya, was the youngest, and was known as "The Cold Maiden" during this time.
The three seasonal gods took notice of the bishops' sudden shift in behavior and warned the other gods of what was to come; their warnings fell on deaf ears, and for their troubles, they were the first to be culled, leaving Yngya as the last goddess of seasons.
Cool and awesome ref for my tavs, gals of all time
Light Through Leaves
Lyrinn, paladin of Mielikki
I finally got around to draw a proper illustration for my newest D&D character! I've been wanting to run a Paladin in 5e ever since I've read about the Oath of the Ancients subclass, and I finally had the chance now that I'm playing Dungeon of the Mad Mage.
Check under the cut for additional insight on her design!
MIELIKKI // FINNISH GODDESS OF FORESTS & THE HUNT)
“She is the Finnish goddess of forests and the hunt. She is referred to in various tales as either the wife or the daughter-in-law of Tapio, and the mother of Nyyrikki and Tuulikki. She is said to have played a central role in the creation of the bear. In a country where the forest was central to providing food through hunting, gathering and cattle grazing, it was thought very important to stay on her good side. She is also offered prayers by those who hunt small game and those who gather mushrooms and berries.”
