Rosegarden Headcanon: Oscar gets lowkey (at least he thinks it’s lowkey XD) jealous whenever he sees Ruby and Jaune spending time together

“Ruby, you have something on your face,” Jaune muttered one night at dinner. The Huntress proceeded to wipe the wrong cheek with her sleep. “Here?”

Jaune shook his head and pointed to a location on her cheek. Ruby tried again, and missed. Jaune, at this point, found that it would be easier to just help her. He took a napkin and wiped the bit of spaghetti sauce off the girl’s face. “There you go.”

Ruby chuckled sheepishly. “Thanks, Jaune.”

It was nothing but a friendly encounter. Well, that was what Oscar was trying to tell himself. He was staring hard at the blonde-haired Huntsman. What was he trying to do?

“Uh, Oscar? You’re getting spaghetti on your clothes,” Ruby pointed out. She was right. He was holding his fork, trembling, and didn’t even notice spaghetti falling on his clothes. Weiss stifled laughter as she handed the poor farmhand a napkin. Great. His new clothes were ruined. Everyone watched the encounter curiously. Some were aware of Oscar’s feelings for Ruby. Some like Maria and Nora. Everyone else either pretended not to know or were completely oblivious to the fact that the boy was head over heels.

After dinner, Ruby and Jaune offered to clear the table. Oscar raised his eyebrow; usually Jaune helped with cooking and Ruby helped with cleaning. Seperately. He was supposed to help Ruby clean.

“Oh, Jaune, I can clear the table. You helped cook today,” Oscar laughed dryly, tugging at the rag that was in the young man’s hand. Jaune was probably a foot and a few inches taller that Oscar, but that was a giant gap. He towered over the boy and Oscar was just under Ruby’s height.

Jaune dismissed his request with a shake of his head. “Nah, let me help today. You can go rest.” Jaune then smiled at Ruby and took the plates with her into the kitchen. What was Oscar supposed to do then? Fight him for the rag? It would just make him look very very jealous, which he wasn’t.

You look like you’re jealous. The professor and his unwanted opinions were back again.

How can I be jealous when there’s nothing to be jealous of?

Go sit down, Oscar. It’s not right to even pursue a relationship in our situation. The headmaster’s voice was stern, yet fatherly at the same time.

Your past lives have all had relationships and kids. What’s different now?

You can do whatever you’d like Oscar. That doesn’t stop the fact that every being I inhabited merged souls with mine. Pursuing a relationship is troubling not because I hate romance, but because loving someone like us is a package deal. My past hosts have had... trouble telling their significant others they have an old man living in their head. Some didn’t confess at all. I just... don’t want you to get hurt.

Well stop. I’ve got this under control. Who says I even want to be with Ruby?

You forget we share the same mind. You’re not great at setting up mental barriers.

“—Oscar!”

“Huh? What?” the boy cried, startled. Yang was shaking him.

“You stared off into space again. And Jaune needs your hands off the table.”

Oscar looked at his hands which were placed firmly on the table out of frustration. Jaune nervously chuckled, showing Oscar the rag. Blushing, Oscar left the dining room, hoping no more incidents of him being distracted would occur.

He seated himself on the couch, his arms crossed over his chest. Nora, Weiss and Ren were trying to set up the screens, to see if they could get a signal. Oscar hadn’t watched anything in a long, long time. He remembered this one show with drama and betrayal and romances in every episode that his aunt used to watch. He wondered if it still aired.

“Jaune, stop! My cape is getting wet!” Ruby yelled from the kitchen.

“Look, you decided you wanted to wear a cape everywhere you go and look where it got you. I’m just trying to clean,” Jaune retorted.

There was a clang of plates and Ruby muttered, “Vomit boy.”

To which Jaune replied with, “Crater face.”

“Still at it with the nicknames, eh?” Oscar murmured under his breath.

“Something tells me you really wanted to wash dishes with my niece,” Qrow’s voice piped up. Oscar looked up to see Qrow on the other sofa, nodding to him. Oscar noted the hostility in his voice and how he referred to Ruby as his “niece” rather than her name.

“What? Of course not,” Oscar panicked, face turning red.

“Uh, huh.” Qrow stood up and walked past him, stopping just before the hallway. He turned back to the farmhand and said, “Stay away from my niece.”

Oscar gulped. Maria decided that was a good time to walk in from the kitchen. You stupid boy.

Do you see what I mean? Is this relationship worth pursuing?

I’m not pursuing anything.

They’re simply friends, Oscar. Can’t two people of the opposite gender be friends? I wouldn’t want to upset Qrow even further; I suggest you keep your feelings in check.

Oscar sent an image of a gesture his aunt told him never to use to Ozpin in his mind. Ozpin seemed to get the message and stayed quiet.

The next morning, Qrow demanded the Huntsmen and Huntresses practice.

“You guys are getting a bit rusty,” he said, sipping from his mug of coffee. Coffee seemed to be his new thing, after a deal he had struck with Ruby to lay off alcohol for a week. Oscar was glad to see he was keeping his promise, and smiled when the old man embraced his niece willingly. Ruby was left with a dopey smile on her face.

“Okay. Weiss, fight with Blake. Yang, you and Nora. Jaune and Ruby. Oscar and Ren. Got it? No killing each other. Maria’ll watch you. I’m gonna go call Ironwood.” Qrow sipped his coffee and gave them a wave before heading back into the house. Maria cleared her throat and clapped her hands, from where she sat on a bench. “Begin!”

Oscar was disappointed that Jaune ans Ruby were paired up. Usually he would be paired up with Ruby or Jaune, but it seemed that Qrow wanted them together. He tried to stay quiet as Jaune high-fived the smaller girl and they separated.

“Ready, Oscar?” Ren asked. The serene Huntsman was in position, gripping the handles of StormFlower. Oscar awkwardly held Ozpin’s cane and prepared himself for a fight that would probably be half-assed. He wished he was paired up with Ruby...

“Wait! This is a no weapons fight! Hello? Hand to hand, he said!” Maria called. Yang and Nora were already halfway to pummeling each other when she announced this. Qrow had never said anything about close-range combat, but no one was willing to argue with the elderly woman. Ruby groaned and thrust Crescent Rose onto the ground.

“Now... fight!”

Ren gave out a strange battle cry and ran at full speed at Oscar. Oscar ducked from underneath Ren and went behind him, kicking his leg. Ren’s leg buckled underneath him and he fell. Oscar snuck a glance at Ruby, who had gotten shoved to the ground by Jaune. Weiss was running around Blake in circles, and Blake was using her semblance to dodge Weiss’ punches. If anyone needed help with hand to hand combat, it was those two. Oscar would’ve thought growing up in a rogue terrorist group would’ve taught Blake something, but there was more to everyone—

Watch out!

“Augh!” Oscar let out a cry as Ren socked him in the face. One punch after the other. Oscar was on the ground, looking into Ren’s fierce eyes. He managed to roll out from underneath him and launched himself on top of his back. Now Ren was carrying a five feet tall child on his back.

“Let go of me!”

Oscar had never seen Ren so frazzled, unless he was around Nora. Wrapping his legs around his torso, Oscar pulled at the young man’s hair. Ren was trying to pry him off, but there was no use. Oscar had no clue what he was doing, only that he wanted to stay in one piece.

“Ahaha, Ren look at you!” Nora cried from her fight with Yang. Nora had a busted lip and Yang’s eyeswere slightly red, which meant she was fired up. Ren poked at Oscar’s legs, trying to get him off.

Don’t make me take control of your body. Stop this nonsense.

Shut up.

“Haha, go Oscar! Short people for the win!” Ruby cheered from her spot. Oscar grinned, seeing Ruby compliment him. Oh no, Jaune was approaching—

“Ruby watch out!”

It was too late, Ruby was dusted on the ground. Jaune went over to her to grab her arm and Ruby quickly sat up, and kicked him in the leg. Jaune then joined her in the dirt. Instead of continuing their fight, the two laughed, side by side on the ground. How didn’t anyone see this?

“Oscar, could you please get off of me?”

“Never!”

“Fine, I didn’t want to have to do this.” Oscar didn’t understand what Ren was talking about until he felt a strong wave of pain from his fingers. It took him two moments to realize Ren had bitten his fingers.

“Nora does the same thing. I thought negotiating would work with you,” Ren sighed as Oscar yelped in pain. He immediately let go and crashed into the thick dirt. Ren turned around and stretched. “I don’t care for these things, but you kind of annoyed me back there, Oscar.” Ren cracked his knuckles, and Oscar was deathly terrified now, and was too weak to stand. Ren didn’t look the same; his eyes were darker and he looked quite sinister. As he inched towards the farmhand, all Oscar could do was hold his breath and wait for the inevitable.

“Is he awake? His eyes are fluttering?”

“Poor guy.”

“He’s been out for two hours!”

Unfamiliar... no these were familiar voices. The young boy opened his eyes to see many pairs of eyes looking down at him.

“He’s awake! Oscar! Are you okay?” Ruby wailed. Oscar looked around. He was in his room he shared with Qrow. How did he get here? How...

He met Ren’s eyes and remembered. Everything came flooding back to him, the fight, the night before...

“Did you knock me out?” Oscar asked quietly to Ren. Nora burst out laughing as Ren panicked, his pale skin turning red. “No, no! You fainted! You looked at me as if I was going to kill you,” Ren explained.

So he fainted out of fear. Great. Ruby probably thought he was a wimp. Ruby, who was laying underneath the Atlas sun with Jaune just hours ago.

“Get some rest, pipsqueak,” Qrow sighed, shaking his head. The Huntsmen parted ways so he could give him something. It was an ice bag for his head. Just then he noticed a dull, aching pain at the base of his head.

“Thanks,” Oscar muttered. He pressed the bag to his head, taking in the freezing sensation. Ruby smiled, a little sadly. “We’ll let you rest. Take it easy.” The girl turned to Jaune. “Okay, you owe me one piggy back ride to the market for comic books! Since I won the fight and all!”

Jaune scowled. “No, you didn’t win the fight! I let you win the fight!”

“Weren’t you both on the ground?” Weiss asked, exasperated. That earned her a chuckle from Blake.

Ruby rolled her eyes. “Nooooo, I was taking a little break! Come on Vomit Boy, bend down!” Jaune reluctantly obeyed and crouched down, allowing Ruby to launch herself onto his back.

Jaune turned to everyone and said, “We’ll be back in an hour or so. If my back doesn’t give out.”

“Less talking, more walking!” Ruby yelled. “Onward!” Jaune, struggling, managed to walk out of the room with Ruby on his back. Everyone else filed out of the room except Yang.

“You do realize you’re jealous, right?” she snickered.

“I am not,” Oscar huffed. “I don’t like her like that.”

Yang rolled her eyes. “Okay. I believe you.” She left, shutting the door behind her. When she was gone, Oscar let out a deep breath. He wasn’t jealous of anyone. He put the ice bag on the nightstand beside him and nestled himself into the blankets. If he managed to convince himself of his feelings, he could convince everyone else, too.

Outside the room, Yang stood in front of her friends, her family, hands placed on her hip.

Nora looked at her eagerly, her eyes gleaming. “Well?”

Yang nodded. “He’s totally jealous,” she whispered. Everyone else nodded, confirming their thoughts.

“Did he actually think he was being discreet?” Blake laughed, as she took Yang’s arm and walked into the living room.

“I think so. Strange, right? And why would anyone be jealous of Jaune?” Yang said, her eyes lighting up in amusement.

Squiggles... I think it’s happening... I think it’s ACTUALLY HAPPENING JNPR IS GONNA BE WHOLE AGAIN THANKS TO OUR BOY Oh yeah, and... PENNYYYYYY. I had a feeling she’d be back but not this SOON. I have very, VERY good feelings about this season

At this point Miggy, there is definitely a stronger push this season. I just finished rewatching the episode again and I definitely picked up on some JNPR 2.0 shots that is making me think so. But I’m gonna wait for the season to confirm it for me for sure.

And yeah, a certain person is definitely back.Or....is she? I dunno. I have some curious thoughts about that person that I wanna talk about. But I’m definitely happy to see her back. She looked so beautiful but...I hope that her return doesn’t end up overstepping too much and getting in way of Ruby bonding with a certain other freckled person for this season.

As for my feelings on this episode---I’m still processing it. It’s gonna be a while before I actually give any grounded opinion of this first episode. It was a little to take in with some key details that I noticed that I wanted to talk about. I think the only way I can really give my thoughts on this first episode is to muse about it. It’s been a while but...I definitely have some thoughts about things I noticed in this one episode.

But beyond that, that opening silhouette shot got me hyped. I hope it isn’t just a fluke. I hope that is delivered this season. We’ll see.

Yo Squiggles. How about you tackle your next Squiggles Script with this idea: Yang finally telling the group about knowing that Raven is the spring maiden, and Oscar’s reaction to finding out she was hiding things just like Oz was. Whether he’s angry or more calm and understanding about that, I’m not too sure.

Alright Miggy, you asked for it. Though I don’t exactlywish to make a habit out of taking requests for RWBY Squiggle Scripts since I like for them to remain spontaneous, nevertheless,I took a crack at another one of your ideas prompts because it is a scenariothat I’m curious to see handled in the canon.

I’m interested inseeing how the CRWBY Writers are going to handle Yang spilling the beans on Raven to the teamand Oscar’s reaction. I have afeeling that the CRWBY Writers more or less might pull another BS approach andhave Oscar be perfectlyfine with Yang keeping her mother’ssecret while chastising Ozpin over his. The only time we’ve seen Oscar becometruly emotional is back in V4 after his first encounter with Ozpin and the dojoscene with Ruby in V5. 

Following that, Oscar was slapped with this ‘perfectly fine’ demeanour even in the face of frustrating conflictthat I, quite frankly find rather disbelieving. Admittedly I’d like to think ofOscar as, not necessarily a ticking time bombbut more like a balloon that is idly sailing floating around without a care in the world untilsomething unexpected comes along to pop him right out of orbit and comecrashing right back down to the reality of the truth, y’know what I’m saying?

Keeping that in mind, I composed this script withthis concept of Yang’s deceit being the pin to finally pop Oscar and unleasheverything he’s been brushing off since Argus. A small disclaimer though. Iactually went for the more angry approach to Oscar’s reaction to Yang’sdeceit. In my imagination, I can see Oscar becoming furious with Yang; angrierthan he should have been with Jaune back in Argus. I went with the angryapproach because I, personally, cannot see Oscar being perfectly fine withYang’s hypocrisy.

Apologies in advancefor Jaune’s characterization in this squiggle scriptas well. As revealed in the canon, Jaune has been carrying a lot of his rageand grief retained from his loss over Pyrhha and it has reflected in hispersonality and overall tolerance to certain things over the seasons. While Iunderstand V6C9 more or less highlighted Jauneovercoming his grief over Pyrhha, I’m not quite convinced he’s done beingangry.

While his confrontation with Oscar may have caused him to finally differentiatehow he views Oscar over Ozpin, that’s not enough to indicate to me that Jauneis done being angry toward Oz and the idea of secrets being kept from the teamas a whole. That being said, sorry if I made everyone’s favourite Arc seem alittle douche-y. 

I needed a secondary character to be especially confrontational with Yang overher deceit and figured Jaune fit the bill better than anyone else. If Yang was toever came clean, Jaune is another I can see being rather adverse to this; maybeeven a bit testy and borderline unpleasant. This is mostly going offof his reaction to Ozpin’s deceit in V6 C8 but youknow, this is mostly my interpretation.

As with every script I do my best to keep everyonein character according to my perception of the character and what I think theywould say in certain scenarios. So, I did my best. Without further ado, let’sjump right in.

RWBY Squiggle Script #012: Divided Once More 

Picture it: Fast-forward. Yang has just finished informing everyoneabout the secret she’s been keeping about Raven. She reveals that she is theSpring Maiden. She doesn’t really say anything else beyond that and basicallywaits for everyone’s reactions to the news. Some folks are understanding, likeher RWBY teammates. Others…not so much.

Ren: So…Raven was the Spring Maiden all the timeand…Vernal was just her decoy.

Yang: Yeah. I’m sorry you’re only hearing this now but…Iwanted you to at least hear it from me. I just…I’m sorry.

Blake: *taking Yang’s hand and smiling at her comfortingly* Yang, it’s okay.

From the other side of the room where he stoodleaning against the wall, Jaune scoffed.

Jaune: *irritated* You guys aren’t serious. You’re comforting her?

Blake: *defensively* Why shouldn’t we? She’s our friend.

Jaune: Yeah but she’s a liar! You knew who the SpringMaiden was and never told us. How could you?!

Weiss: Jaune, calm down. I’m sure Yang had aperfectly good reason to—

Jaune: To lie? Gee, now where have we heard that before?What happened to trusting each other and not lying to each other?

Yang: *defensively* Ididn’t lie to you.

Nora: *chiming in* Yeahbut you certainly didn’t tell us everything you knew about the Spring Maideneither. 

Ren: You didn’t trust usenough to tell us. 

Jaune: I can’t believe this is happening again.I thought we were over this? What happened to no more secrets? No more lies!

Yang: *heatedly* Ididn’t lie! I just—

Yang takes a deep breath, recomposing herself tomake sure she chose her next words carefully.

Yang:  *apologetically* Look, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you guys about thissooner. I messed up and I know that. This is why I am telling you now. I’m telling you. I know I can’t make up for everything that’sbeen done before and I don’t expect all of you to understand but…it was my mom.I didn’t want to keep this secret from everyone but I felt like I had to.

Jaune: *incredulously* You had to?

Yang: Yes! Raven is theSpring Maiden but she’s also my mother. The mother I spent years trying tofind. The mother who protected me from Neo. My mother!

Jaune: *confrontationally* Ohyou mean the same mother who betrayed us at the Battle of Haven and helpedCinder go after the Relic? The same mother whose tribe kidnapped Weiss and heldher hostage in their camp. The same mother who abandoned you and never lookedback!

Blake: Jaune!

At this point Jaune was up in Yang’s face; glaringat her angrily prompting Blake and Weiss to immediately come between thembefore things got more heated. Blake is pulling Yang away while Weiss wedgedherself between an infuriated Jaune and an equally annoyed Yang, whose eyeswere turning red in her growing anger.

Weiss: *cautiously* Jaune, that was out of line! You need to stop.

Yang: *from behind Blake* No,Weiss let him say what he has to say. *crossly* I don’texpect you of all people to understand Jaune since…y’know…you’re Mr. Perfect from the perfect home with the perfect big happy family withseven sisters and two loving parents who never backstabbed each other or lefttheir kids behind or worse, died! No, I don’t expect you tounderstand a thing about how I felt but that doesn’t give you the right tostand there and judge me!

Weiss: ENOUGH! 

With all the strength she could muster, Weissfirmly shoves both Yang and Jaune off of each other. Her outburst stunseveryone especially Jaune and Yang.  

Weiss: *furiously* Listento yourselves! Do you have any idea how ridiculous youtwo sound right now! We’re supposed to be friends…a family. This is not how a family is supposed to act! We’re supposed tocare about each other! Love each other! Not deceive or keep secrets from eachother and it certainly doesn’t give you the right to scream at each other likeyou don’t even care about the other people in the room who can hear you! Thisisn’t just about you! *breaking down with tears starting to form in her eyes* It’s not just about you…it’s… 

Jaune: …Weiss? 

Weiss: *tearfully* I…whydoes every family I end up with end up fighting. Why?  

Ruby: *cautiouslyreaching out to Weiss after noticing her tears*…Weiss?

Weiss: …I’m sorry, I can’t go through this again, I’msorr—please excuse me! 

Weiss exits the room before anyone could stop her.Ruby makes a move to go after Weiss but is stopped by Blake. 

 Blake: …I—I’ll go talk toher. 

With that, Blake exits the room leaving everyoneelse in silence. Yang and Jaune appeared the guiltiest at what they hadunearthed.  

Yang: *regrettably* I…I never meant to lie to you,okay? To any of you. Weiss is right. We’re more than just a team. We’resupposed to be a family and…it’s not good to keep secrets from your family. I’msorry I didn’t say anything sooner, I just—at the time, I didn’t think aboutany of you guys. I thought only about my mom and what Salem would do to her ifshe found out she was a maiden. So I made her secret my secret too. I know itwas wrong but at the time, it felt right because…look,there are just some cards that are best played— 

Ruby: … close to the chest?

Yang winced at the strange familiarityin her words but nods otherwise.Jaune: *spitefully* Wow.Well…that sounds awfully familiar now,doesn’t it? You know Yang you talk big about trust but you’re no differentthan… 

Oscar: …Ozpin.  

Everyone’s attention immediately turned to Oscar.At this point, he had been eerily quiet in the corner during the whole ordealand now looked up at Yang for the first time she let the cat out the bag. Hishazel eyes were wide as he slowly processed everything he had just heard. 

Ruby: *concernedly*…Oscar?

Yang : *awkwardly* Oscar…listen, I’m— 

Oscar: …The Spring Maiden…is your mother?

Yang: Yeah, she… 

Oscar: How long did you know about this?

Yang: What? 

Oscar: How long have you known?

Yang: I…

Oscar: *firmly* Answerthe question! 

All eyes fell on Yang now who looked awayhesitantly. 

Ruby: …Yang?

Yang: … Since… the Battle of Haven. 

Nora: This whole time! 

Jaune: *furiously* Howcould you keep something like that from us? How could you think that was okay?! 

Yang: *scolding Jaune* Itold you, She’s my mother! 

Qrow: I don’tbelieve this. My sister was the Spring Maiden we were looking for the wholetime back in Mistral and didn’t tell me. And my own niece knew about it too anddidn’t tell me. You both didn’t tell me anything! So much for blood is thickerthan water.*sighs exasperatedly* I’m going for a dri—I’m going for a walk. I need some air. 

Yang: Qrow I’m…

Ruby: Uncle Qrow? 

Qrow exits theroom slamming the door hard behind him. Ruby’s shoulders slump sadly. 

Ruby: *sadly* Not him too. 

Ruby attempts to go after Qrow but is tapped on theshoulder by Maria.  

Maria: Don’t worry. I’ll handle the ole bird this time. It’sbest you stay here so that you kids can work out…uhm…whatever this is supposedto be. *in alower voice to Ruby* Please work this out before it gets out ofhand. We don’t want a repeat of what happened in Argus. 

Ruby gives Maria an affirming nod and the seniorhuntress smiles at her young protégée before exiting to catch up withQrow.   

 Ruby: Guys, I think we should all just…take a breath andtry to work things through. This doesn’t have to be as bad as it looks. 

Jaune: *grumpily* Speakfor yourself. 

Ren: I don’t understand.  We all saw Raven godown to the Vault with Vernal and Cinder to retrieve the Relic. If Ravenwas the true Spring Maiden and the only one with access to the vault thenwhy didn’t she take the lamp for herself?

Yang: She was going to.

Ren: Going to? 

Nora: *inquiringly* …But…?

Yang: I…. told hernot to.

Jaune: You did what!

Ruby: Yang!

Yang: I had to, okay! If my mom had taken the Relic then we allknow it would’ve only been a matter of time before Salem found her. Cinder killed the original Fall Maiden. She killed Pyrhha!She killed Vernal! She almost killed my mother but she stoppedher before she could. But as strong as my mom is, she’s no match for Salem. Being a Maidenand having a Relic would’ve made her a bigger target forSalem.  She would’ve killed her for sure.I couldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t risk losing my mom. Not again. Not for good.

Ren: *processing everything* So…you made us the targets instead?

Nora: You made Salem comeafter us instead?

Jaune: To kill us instead.

Yang: I…I’m….sorry.

Ruby: No wait, that’s—that’s actually a good thing. Itmeans—

Oscar: …It was you.

For a second time, all eyes snapped to Oscar.

Oscar: *processing everything* …You’rethe reason we had to take the Relic to Atlas. You’re the reason we got on thattrain. The reason… the Grimm came after us. The reason we got separated. Thetrain crash… Maria…Jinn, it was you! It was all you…

Nora: …Oscar.

Nora: *worriedly* ….Oscar…no…

Ruby: *equally concerned* Youdidn’t betray Ozpin. You were just…doing the right thing.

Oscar: *distressfully* What right thing? Forcing someone to relive the most horrible time in theirlives, not once but for several thousand years of lifetimes when they didn’t consent to sharing it? Laying out all their failures andmistakes in front for everyone to judge him…andthen… turn onhim! That’s NOT the rightthing! That…that was…CRUEL!  

*distraughtly tugging at his hair; anxiety rising* Salem was his secret. His pain. His mistake. His burden to bear. He didn’t want to show us. He didn’twant us to see it. See his failures. Re-experience them again! He begged us not to show it. But we… we forced him! We forced him toreveal all his secrets and then…we turned our backs on him. We had no right!I—I had no right! I….I betrayed him. I told Ruby about Jinn. I made ithappen.

I hurt him. I betrayed him. I betrayed us….because….

Oscar trails off; his head slowly turning toward Yang.

Oscar: …Because… of you.  

Yang: *stiffening*…What?

Oscar: I did it… because of you!  

Oscar startsadvancing on Yang; hazel eyes locked with violet.

Oscar: *voice slowly rising* You… started all ofthis! You’re the one who kept questioning his actions. Probing him for answershe wasn’t ready to give…

At this point,Yang is slowly backing away from Oscar; surprisingly fearful of the rage risingin his demeanour. But Oscar kept pushing; slowly backing her into a corner.

Yang: *nervously* …Oscar; pleasejust—

Oscar: You’re the one who confronted Ozpin. You’re the one who kept…asking.Kept…pushing him…because you wanted the truth. You…demanded it! You just wouldn’t let it go!*voice growing louder as his realizationslowly boiled into anger*What happened to nomore lies and half-truths? That’s what you told him! You forced him to give up all of his secrets when you’ve beensitting on your own THIS WHOLE TIME! You had no right!

Yang: *sadly*I…

Oscar: …This is your fault!

Oscar pushes Yang once. She takes it quietly; guiltwritten clearly on her face.

Oscar: …This is all… YOUR FAULT!

Oscar pushes Yang again, a little harder. Yangactually feels the force a little more this time and winces but she’s still tooguilty to react; head hanging low.

Oscar: EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT!  

By the third shove, Yang is practically slammedinto the wall with Oscar’s shaky hands, trembling with rage holding her by thescruff of her jacket or as much as he could grab with Yang’s towering heightdifference compared to his short stature. At this point, angry tears arerolling down Oscar’s dotted cheeks and Yang couldn’t bring herself to look awayfrom his infuriated expression.

She had never seen Oscarthis enraged. This hurt. Not even back in Argus. The feeling wasdefinitely mutual from the others in the room. All except for Ruby.She, on the other hand, had witnessed Oscar lashing out before. Seen whathappens when his frustration rose to volatile levels. For a second time sincethey’d met, this was Oscar’s tipping point andwhat was sad was that it was her own sister who brought him to this level of resentment.Immediately, the arms of Jaune, Nora and Ren reached from behind Oscar andquickly restrained him before he did something else to Yang he’d later regret.

Oscar: *angrily fighting against JNR* Let go of me! Let me go!

Nora: Oscar you need to calm down!

Oscar:  Don’t tell me to calm down! *turns his anger back on Yang* SHE DID THIS! YOU’RE A HYPOCRITE!

Yang: *guiltily* Oscar, I’m so—

Oscar: *pissed*So what! Sorry? That’s all youhave to say! Ozpin left because of you! You want me to feel sorry foryou? Where was that sympathy for Oz?! You had the nerve to expose Ozpin for hissecrets—oursecrets— when you’ve been sitting on your own! This whole time! Unbelievable!

Ruby: …Oscar…

Ruby plants herself in front of Yang. She attemptsto intervene but in his outburst,Oscar even reflected his irritation on Ruby, making her flinch under hisintense gaze.

Oscar: *warningly* DON’T!You cannot be taking her side!

Ruby: *taken aback* …I’mnot taking anyone’s side! *expression saddening* I just want all of this tostop!

Oscar: *solemnly*….Well…that makes two of us.

Oscar was full on crying at this point; face in hishands. He had even stopped thrashing at JNR who let him go. They each did theirbest to show consolation for the young farm boy with Nora even trying to hugOscar but he pushed her off him which left the thunder goddess stunned.

Oscar: *sobbing* I wantthis all to stop! I’m done! With all of this!

And he was off. Before anyone could really stophim, Oscar went straight for the door.

Ruby: Oscar…wait…

Ruby made a grab for Oscar’s hand but he quicklywrenches it away from her reach as if he’d been touched by burning steel. Likethe rest before him, Oscar storms out of the room, slamming it harshly inRuby’s face, much to her distraught. And then there were five.

Nora: *sadly* You know;here I thought we were free from drama once we got to Atlas.

Jaune: Anyone else has any super important informationthey were hiding from everyone else? 

Ruby: *testily* JAUNE!Can you please NOT do this right now! You’re not helping! Can’t you seethe team is falling apart!

Jaune: *annoyed* Whatteam? This isn’t a team. And we’re not a family either. We might as well… be strangers.

And then four as Jaune stomped out after Oscar.Upon Jaune’s departure, Ruby officially breaks down.

Ruby: I…I can’t deal with all of this again.

Ruby crashes on the couch, face in her hands.Fortunately, Nora was quick to sit next to her and offer her a hug ofreassurance which Ruby accepted. Yang was still stunned from Oscar’sconfrontation to move.

Nora: *comfortingly* Hey,listen. Ren and I can handle Jaune. You don’t mind him one bit.

Ren: She’s right. Don’t take what he said to hearteither. His anger—this isn’t really about youor Yang. It’s…more him than you iswhat I’m trying to say.

Ruby: *groaning* Thisis exactly like what happened in Argus. Can someone please gocheck up on Oscar?

Ren: Shouldn’t we leave him alone? He seemed veryupset.

Ruby: Exactly! I don’t want him to be alone when he’sthis upset. The last time he got like this, he—*emotionally; tearing up slightly* I don’t want him to be alone right now.He has to know he’s not alone, okay?

Nora: *rubbing Ruby’s arms comfortingly* Don’t worry. After we findJaune, we can check up on Cute Boy Oz too.

Finally Yangspeaks.

Yang: No. I think it’s best if you checkup on Oscar, Ruby.

Ruby: *miserably*That’s…if he’ll actually talk to me.

Yang: *reassuringly with a half-smile* He will. As madas he is right now, Oscar’s always had a soft spot for you. If he does runagain, you’re the one he’ll want to chase after him.

Ruby: *concernedly* But…whatabout you?

Yang: *reassuringly* I’llbe alright. I’m going to go check in with Blake and Weiss. I just—I thinkit’s best if Ispent some time awayfrom everyone for a little while. Especially Oscar. I…don’t think he’ll be comfortable withme around right now so maybe I should…go somewhere else or something. I couldalways ask Neon and Flynt if I could crash with them for a while.

Ruby: *incredulously* You’removing out!

Yang: …At least until everything blows over.

Ruby:…But—

Ren: I think we can alluse some space from each other right now. Perhaps…some time apart would be bestto help defuse any lingering tensions.

Yang: Yeah.

Ruby: … R—Right.

Yang: I’m gonna go look forBlake and Weiss.

Ren: We’ll see to Jaune.

One by one, Nora, Ren and Yang each depart withNora and Yang both flashing Ruby reassuring looks and gestures as they madetheir exit. And with that, Ruby was alone. Despite being together in considerablythe safest kingdom in all of Remnant, for a second time, they were divided andRuby was at a loss on what to do to fix it.

Ruby: *sighs miserably* I was wrong. This is worse than Argus.

And scene.

Not sure how to feel about this one. I’ll leave theverdict up to you readers especially you, Miggy. As a small heads up, I might make a sequel script to this. Two in fact. One featuring the RosegardeningRosebuds and another with Pine Dragon (thisis what I’ll call the FRIEND-ship between Yang and Oscar) again, possibly.Not sure. In the meantime, I hope you guys enjoy.

I’m slowly becoming more and more done with the RWBY subreddit. Every single time something regarding Rosegarden is posted there, it is immediately met by immense hate and criticism, the worst of all of them being that “it’s creepy and borderline pedophilia because of Ozpin.” It’s just so irritating. They are seriously overthinking the “issues” of this ship.

You,my friend, have more patience with RWBY Reddit than I did, Miggy. Not to sound salty or anythingbut I lost all respect I had for RWBY Reddit after the bit of backlash myscript got on there. I already had my misgivings about the site since I sharedan Oscar fanart on there once only to be met with crude comments. No disrespectto anyone who frequents the RWBY Reddit and find it to be a great staple in theRWBY Community, personally that side of the RWBY FDNM has left a sour taste inthis squigglemeister’s mouth. The attitude ofsome of the fans over there is honestly distasteful and your qualm with howthey treat RoseGarden only proves my point.

Seriously?How many times do us Rosegardeners haveto make the counter argument that RoseGarden is a pairing between Ruby Rose and Oscar Pine—a16/17 year old girl and a 14 year old boy? How is a 2-3 year age difference considered problematic and why do people still keep bringing Ozpin into theirpairing when the shippers in the FNDM, not to mention the actual canon series,has clarified that Ozpin isn’t a factor in Ruby and Oscar’s relationship.

What issues? As faras I understand, this ship has no real issues because the major two issues havebeen debunked by both the fans and the showrunners. The two year age differencethe antis keep hollering about? Miles Luna said that’s perfectly fine and let’snot forget the gigantic hypocrisy in shipping RoseGarden being problematic forthe 2 year age difference while meanwhile Lancaster,Whiterose, Checkmate, Nuts and Dolts and every other Ruby ships exist. 

There are folks whoship Ruby with her own sister romantically but no, shipping her with the oneperson who is closest to her in age is a no-no. Seriously, how many times do Ihave to voice how silly that argument is?

Ozpin being in Oscar’s head? Not an issue because a) Oscar and Ozpin areexpected to merge at some point and Ozpin is going to become a part of Oscarbut our farm boy isn’t the one who is destined to change. Ozpin is and heforeshadowed this back in V5 C3 and b) V6 made a point to highlight that theprevious soul coexisting with its successor does not affect or intervene intheir relationships; past and present. In the case of Henkle, Ozma learned theimportance of living with the men he was paired with and as we saw, Ozma darednot interrupt Henkle’s time with his family. 

If anything it was Henkle’sinvolvement in the fight against the Grimm and Salem as one of Ozma’ssuccessors that affected his home life. Not so much Ozma since we witnessed himlive two lifetimes (Ambroise and Emmanuel completely avoiding confrontationwith Salem following Digg’s demise).   

Soeven if Ozpin shares a mind with Oscar, this doesn’t affect the farm boy’srelationship with Ruby. Either souls share a different perception andrelationship with the Silver Eyed Girl and it’s highlighted in the way theyboth treat and interact with her. The same can be said with how differentlyRuby treats Oscar and Ozpin whenever one soul is in control.

Evenif Oscar were to fall in love with Ruby, his romantic interest in her will notbe mirrored in Ozpin. To Ozpin, Ruby is his former student and nothing more. ToRuby, Ozpin is the former headmaster of Beacon—one of her mentors and theadults she looks up to and nothing more. But to Ruby, her bond with Oscartranscends her impression of Ozpin and isn’t treated the same.

Theshow doesn’t treat Ruby’s affiliation with Oscar and Ozpin as the same so itbaffles me that there are members of the fandom who see/treat it that way whenthere is concrete canon evidence to suggest otherwise. Again, how many timesmust we debate this?

Nowyou’ve reminded me why I avoided RWBY Reddit for so long. It’s one of the firstplaces I heard spreading negativity regarding RoseGarden. Seriously, if that iswhat the atmosphere is like across there for the ship then perhaps you shouldstray away from the site, Miggy. At least in respect to RoseGarden. I’m notsure if you follow other stuff on RWBY Reddit and might wish to stay for that.But in regards to RoseGarden, save it for Tumblr (and maybe Twitter, Discordand Amino too) because at least the RG community over here are cool.

You’redefinitely more likely to find FNDM members who strongly support RoseGardenthan rally against it. Best to stay where the rose blossoms can prosper andthrive rather than wander to the dark forests of RWBY Reddit where they’rewither and die…or get set aflame.

If there really is going to be a dance arc, my biggest nightmare is Ruby ending up dancing with Weiss or Jaune, and Oscar ends up dancing with Maria for comedy 😓

…Uhm…no???Even if that does wind up being the case, myguess is that it’ll be a moment that plays out temporarily and not within thecontext that you’re thinking of, Miggy. Besides I can more picture our veteran pocket abuelita being thechaperone/fairy godmother type to convince Oscar into dancing with Ruby. I knowit’s a concern of yours but from one RosegardeningPinehead to another, I wouldn’t worry too much aboutthat fam. Allowthis squiggle meister to provide you some assurances.

Generally a Ballor Gala type of episode or arc is anopportunity for the series’ creators to pander to promote all of itsships while bolstering their core pairings as the driving point of the entire subplot. I’ll give you an example. Inthe last gala-related episodic arc back in V2, what did we get?

We got a moment with Jaune and Ruby drinkingpunch and being socially awkward together (Lancaster), Jaune confronting Neptune in favour of Weiss (White Knight), Yangand Blake sharing a dance together (Bumblebee), Blake and Sun going together to the dance (BlackSun) and Neptunesharing a talk with Weiss with the two seemingly spending the rest of the dancein each other’s company (Iceberg).

We even got a moment where Ironwood askedGlynda to dance and she accepts for all the Technopath or Cyberwitch shippers. Sadly no OzGlyn though; unless you count her standing dutifully by his side even at thedance before being approached by Ironwood as a moment. Ey, close enough.

And this whole subplot culminates in the grandest ofshipping moments—Jaune, chivalrously keeping his promise to Pyrhha showing upin a dress and agreeing to share a dance with her.

The last dance arc gave us pretty much allthe core ships: White Knight, Arkos, Bumblebee, BlackSun and Iceberg. I canonly assume the next gala-themed subplot will the follow the same trend withour current ships. The last time there was a dance, you can say that Arkos wasthe face of that arc because it dealt with Jaune and Pyrhha’s feelings respectivelyand it works because this was a moment that led into their development andeventual endgame as of V3.

Yes, I know Arkos sailed and sunk within thespan of the same season. But regardless, the Arkos ship still soared high. Shemay be a ghost ship like the FlyingDutchman but she still sails proud and strong. DespitePyrhha’s absence, you can see that Jaune still cares very much for her andstill remains affected the most by her loss. As a matter of fact, I think adance episode would be the perfect time for Jaune to confront any lingeringfeelings of guilt he still harbours toward Pyrhha after losing her.

It can also provide Jaune with a second chance. Let’s not forget,Jaune originally wished to go to the dance with Weiss. With Pyrhha’s advice, hehad planned to confess how he truly saw Weiss in the hopes that this time shewould give him a shot. But in the end, he missed his window when Weiss asked Neptuneinstead.

This leaves me curious about something. Weiss’ whole gaggle with Jaune is because shecompletely misunderstood his interest in her. Weiss believed that Jaune onlyliked her for her name when the reality was far from that. This makes me wonderhow Weiss would’ve felt toward Jaune if she knew how he truly saw her.

This is why I believe the CRWBY Writers mightopt to revive this plotline and give us curious WhiteKnight shippers and fans the answer to thisquestion.

Would Weissknowing of Jaune’s true perception of her have changed her feelings for him?

That’s what I’d like to know and I think thispotential Atlas Ball could provide that answer.

Regarding your point on the CRWBY Writersmaking Ruby dance with Weiss or Jaune over Oscar—it’s funny, you say that’syour biggest nightmare Miggy but now I’m picturing that idea of yours being a legit nightmare Oscarhas when his anxiety over his feelings for Ruby and wanting to ask her to behis date to the ball gets the better of him.

Imagine the CRWBY Writers trolling the RG fandom by having Oscar dream of Ruby sayingshe’s in love with another potential suitor while dancing with them at thedance and we’re left to think it’s real until Oscar suddenly wakes up revealingit to be all a really baddream. I’d actually laugh if that turned out to becanon.

Apart from that, I’m going to be very bluntwhen I say this. While I respect the Lancaster and the Whiterose pairings as well as their shippers, if you were to honestly ask me myopinion on the potential of these ships, I would tell you that I think neither islikely. No wait, that sounded too harsh and doesn’t fully say all that I wantto say on that so let me rephrase to be more specific.

I don’t believe in the possibility of Lancaster orWhiterose becoming canon at this precise moment in the current RWBY storylinebased purely on the lack of the development for either ships in a romantic direction betweenthe events of the Mistral Arc.

Now before anyone in favour of these pairingschose to bash me for my statement, allow me to further justify my reasoning. I’msaying this out of my personal biasness as a firm Rosegardener. Not only am Ithe type of shipper who respects other ships but I’m also the type of shipperwhere if I notice that there is some strong inclination for a particularpairing provided with firm evidence from said franchise, I will admit that factregardless of my feelings toward said ship. This is why, even though I’m a BlackSun shipper, Icannot ignore or deny the hints of Bumblebee that was sprinkled throughout V6.While I still don’t believe the ship is canon as yet, I will admit that theseries has made a very strong push toward the pairing in the recent season thatI cannot just say is pandering.

I’m not a Bumblebee shipper but for what it’sworth, I would hope that if this is the next pairing the CRWBY are planning tobe make canon like Renora then I hope they just do it if that was the plan the whole time. I’m notone of those BlackSun shippers who are saying that BlackSun will be endgame andthat the CRWBY are only pandering to the Bees for now. If that is the case thenthat will actually cause me to feel rather sympathetic toward the Bee shippersbecause a remark like that heavily implies that the Bee fans are only beingbaited for their support just for the sake of salvaging RWBY’s rollercoasterride of a reputation which in turn paints the CRWBY as rather scummy. I don’t thinkthis is the case since I’d like to think the CRWBY know what they’re doing.

Well…50% of the time the CRWBY know whatthey’re doing and I’d like to positively think that Bumblebee in V6 is part ofthe 50% that highlight’s what the show wishes to do.

As you can probably tell, I’m not a fan of pandering to the fansespecially when it comes to ships. My thing is if you’re going to make a shipcanon, just do it. Don’t say you’re going to go with one ship while teasingothers. This is the same mess that drove the Voltron fandom into the dirt withits insufferable shipping wars and I hope that the CRWBY won’t do this for RWBY.

I mean…well technically, the shipping wars are already here in the RWBY FNDM. Shit, Ithink  the FNDM is even more known forits shipping wars than anything else. Damn.

Nevertheless, what I mean is that I don’t wantthe CRWBY to stroke that fire y’know what I mean? At least not intentionally. Thisis especially more apparent with the LGBT ships.

I’ve been in many different fandoms and what I’velearnt (particularly from fandoms such as Legendof Korra, VoltronLegendary Defender, Steven Universe and even Lifeis Strange of all things) is that people don’t play when it comesto the queer ships. This response post isn’t supposed to be about Bumblebeebut…allow me to deviate here for a sec.

If the CRWBY wish to do Bumblebee then doBumblebee and let them do Bumblebee. If that was the Writers’ plan all alongand it took them six to seven seasons to do so then no one can’t fault them ifthat was their vision and they took the time to build up this bond.

But if you’re a CRWBY Writer, don’t doBlackSun for predominantly five seasons and then push more for Bumblebee assoon as Sun is conveniently out of the picture only to start hinting atBlackSun again when Sun returns to the picture seasons later. Please do not dothat!

This is something that I hope they don’t do for RoseGardenwith respect to Lancaster and Whiterose. Speaking bluntly as a Rosegardener, I donot wish to be a part of some silly ass shipping war. This is why I no longercare about who Blake ends up with. Yang or Sun—this squiggle meister doesn’t care anymore. All I want is for RWBY as a show to just pick onelove interest for Blake and kindly stick to their guns on it. As a BlackSunshipper, I have no issue with Blake ending up with Yang purely because Ibelieve that Bumblebee neitherruins nor kills BlackSun. Regardless of whether hebecame her lover or remained her friend, it wouldn’t matter with Sun.

Do you guys knowwhy I love Sun Wukong so much and why he’s easily my second favourite RWBYcharacter (Oscar being number one as always of course)?

Sun has and always will be a person who caresmore about Blake’s well-being and her happiness over his own. Even if Sunstrongly likes or even loves Blake, he’s not selfish with her. This is why it disgusts me when otherfans try to badmouth Sun and downplay his interactions and intentions toward Blakewhile misunderstanding the type of character Sun is.

Out of the two key male companions in Blake’slife, Sun is the better of the two since he is the complete opposite of Adam. Whenit came to his former relationship with her, Adamwas selfish with Blake to be the bitter end. Adamwould quicker sever any connection Blake had with anyone else. Sun, on theother hand is the opposite of that.

Rather than destroy her bonds, what does Sun do? Hehelps Blake to repair them. Adam was vindictive with Blake’s bonds includingBumblebee. He even voices some of that spite during his clash with Yang in V6which mirrored Gaston’s taunts to the Beast from Beautyand the Beast.

If Bumblebee becomes canon, it wouldn’taffect the beauty of the BlackSun dynamic because so long as Blake is happy, that is allthat matters to Sun. It doesn’t matter if Yang is the person that Blakeultimately falls for, Sun will support it regardless out of his care for Blake.That’s the extent of how much Sun loves Blake. It is selfless kind of love.

Sun will be happy for Blake whoever shechooses even if it’s not him. That is the type of person the series has paintedSun Wukong out to be and thus that’s how I view him. This is why I can never ever picture SunWukong being the jealous, spiteful type who would get piss hurt if hediscovered Blake romantically involved with Yang. Spite was Adam’s word. Earnest was Sun’s because he’s always eager to help someone especially if hebelieves they need it and definitely if he cares about them in turn.

Sun Wukong may not be perfect but by Golly, he is the perfect companion. Asa BlackSun shipper, I don’t mind if Sun never becomes Blake’s lover because hestraight up is her bestfriend/closest confidant and that’s a title that youcan’t take away from him.

But that’s enough gushing over Sun ‘Sunshine Boi’ Wukong. Getting back on track with my problems with pandering, this iswhat eventually drained me of my interest in who Blake eventually ended upwith. I got tired of the incessant back and forth between Bumblebee andBlackSun; not just by the FNDM but in the series too.

I went from being like “I totally ship BlackSun!” during V1 to V3 to “I still totallyship BlackSun but I can also see Bumblebee being a strong possibility too giventhe vibes I’m getting from Yang regarding her underlying feelings about Blakeafter their separation.” during V4 and V5 to “Oh my God, can you please just pick one and stopconfusing the shippers with your ridiculous pandering, CRWBY! I don’t even careabout Blake’s love life anymore. Her relationship drama has been the driving forceof her character arc since the Black Trailer. If you’re gonna do Bumblebee thendo freaking Bumblebee and stick with it. But please don’t do Bumblebee onlybecause Sun is out of the picture and the minute he returns, it’s back to theback and forth! Please no!”

That being said; as I’ll repeat once more—Idon’t wish for Rosegarden to be given the same treatment alongside Whiteroseand Lancaster. As much as I love the Rosebuds and would love to see Rosegarden become canon—if the series has beenshown to be leaning more towards Lancaster or Whiterose over this pairing, thenI would openly admit that. However, this has not been the case at all for thepast three seasons.

I understand that there are some Lancaster andWhiterose shippers whose sole interest in these ships is because they just likethese characters together. Doesn’t matter if their endgame or not and that’stotally fine. But I’m also aware of the other spectrum of these particularshipping groups—the more passionate shippers who believe with all of their heart thatthese ships will be endgame and will go out of their way to proclaim this opinion of theirs at the expense of insulting other Rubyships. Particularly RoseGarden. That is totally NOT fine.

Do you remember when I made this prompt post asking fellow Rosegardeners if they were ever hostile toward othernon-RG ships? Speaking to which, thank you to everyone who responded to thatpost. Your answers certainly helped to prove my point that as a shippingcommunity, we Rosegardeners don’t go out our way to bash other pairings. If wehave to address the other ships, it’s usually done in a manner that tries toremain humble and respectful even in the face of debunking the possibility ofthese other ships with our own opinions.

I made that prompt post after discovering aso-called ‘analysis’ post made by a Whiterose shipper who shared their views on why theythink Rosegarden will never be canon. This was done during RWBY RoseGarden Week1.0 by the way. How nice of them to post that during that time, right?

When I see stuff like this, it makes me feelbad for the Whiterose and Lancaster shippers who aren’t like this. I know everyshipper speaks for themselves most of the time but this type of attitude is generallywhat makes me turn away from certain pairings. Not because of the ship itselfbut its shippers.

Sorry if I sound like I’m going off on sometirade, I just don’t like the idea of the CRWBY baiting anything with regardsto Rosegarden and other ships. I know this is probably inevitable going forward for V7especially if another dance arc is expected. I just don’t wish for myself orthe Rosegarden community to be involved in some dum-dum shipping war. I don’twish to fight any Whiterose or Lancaster shippers nor do I want them to attackme or my fellow Rosegardeners. That’s just silly.

Besides my headcanon is that the CRWBY Writers will push for a deeper RoseGarden relationshipin V7. My theory for V7 is thatthey’ll most likely do another time jumpat the start of the season. That’s what they did forthe Mistral Arc so I’m expecting the same for Atlas. I feel like we’re likelyto start next volume with our heroes already settled into Atlas (sporting newwardrobe—at least everyone minus Oscar) having grown already adjusted to lifewithin the kingdom’s walls for roughly a good space of time—I’d say roughly one to possibly three months. Perhaps enough for Oscar to be aged up.

As of the end of V6, Oscar was confirmed to stillbe 14 years old so it’d be interesting if he’s15 by the start of Atlas to hint that he had a birthday while the heroes werein Atlas. Part of the reason why I want a time skip isbecause it would provide the Writers with an opportunity to add moredevelopment for RoseGarden off-screen.

Imagine if…we start V7 with Ruby and Oscar sharing a closer friendship than theydid back in Mistral because their friendship had a lot of leeway to growoff-screen. As much as I’d love to see more of the Rosebud friendship progresswithin the series, I wouldn’t mind if the Writers do this especially if it’s inthe form of a time jump.

After all, a time jump provided RNJR enough time togrow as a unit of friends so the same can be done with the Rosebuds as well asOscar with JNR. It’s definitely an idea.

Imagine…the audience going into the V7 with Oscar showing more obvious signs ofhaving a crush on Ruby and what could be cute is if Ruby reciprocates thatinterest. Part of the reason why I have a great time believing that RoseGardenis a possibility is because the series has taken it’s time to sprinkle a coupleof hints at these two potentially growing to like each other.

Another reason I adore the RoseGarden pairingis the duality within the ship. Both Ruby and Oscar mirror each other in terms of theirshared interest in each other and their desire to support one another. This iswhy I find it ridiculous when anti-RG shippers try to act like the serieshasn’t been unsubtly edging these two kids together.

I’ll admit something. I wouldn’t be a Rosegardener if RWBY as a series didn’t go out of its way to zone in on these two.Contrary to what some might believe, this squigglemeister didn’t start supporting RoseGarden until V5.I’m not one of the folks who paired Ruby with Oscar as early as V4. This is whyI’m able to stand with my fellow shippers in saying without a doubt that theshowrunners of RWBY are setting something up between these two.

We’re not sure what that is as yet—a potential romance or just a really closefriendship. Who knows? But it’s definitely there and it’sdefinitely something. RoseGarden may not be canon but it’s FRIEND-shipequivalent: Rosebuds is for now. Before a garden can blossom, rosebudsneeds to be planted and tended to. The CRWBY have already established aconnection between Ruby and Oscar in more ways than one. Now what’s left is tosee how and what it grows into.

I’ll give you the key ones. Ruby and Oscarshare a connection because they are both the youngest members of the heroes.They are also inadvertently two of the most powerful beings in all of Remnantbecause they both share an unearthly power that they received from a godly character. Ruby is a Silver EyedWarrior; presumably the last of her kind and Oscar is a Wizard of Light; thecurrent incarnation of a long lineage of brave magical men. Both Ruby and Oscarshare the power of the God of Light within them and that alone screams thatthey share a bond that transcends anything else within the series.

The antis can try their goshdarndiggity hardest todeny the possibility of these two falling in love all they want but what theycannot ignore are the canonical facts that link these two together. And let’snot forget the main kicker that theshow keeps pushing these two together. Even when the plotdoesn’t demand it, they still edge them closer to each other and make sure theaudience sees it.

It’s actually quite jarring how many timesthey do it to the point that it should be its own drinkinggame. Go back and rewatch V6 and take a drinkeach time the series focuses on Ruby and Oscar; whether they are sharing ascene or just sharing a shot. Seriously try it and pray you stay sober enoughto count them all because there is a quite a bit. Definitely more than 5.

Seriously how can you NOT think something is being set upwith these two smaller, more honest souls? It’s just so unapologetically loud. I quite likethat, actually. Then again, I would.

I feel like RoseGarden can potentially beanother BlackSun meaning that it’s a ship that can go either way and still workout swimmingly. It can either be a really strongfriendship or a beautifulromance. The verdict is left to the CRWBY. However Ithink romance is in the cards because a) Oscar has been hinted to draw influence from the Little Prince whosetrue love was a rose and part of his story and journey was learning how muchhis rose meant to him—a feat I can definitely picture Oscar going through tocome to terms with his feelings for Ruby if done right and b) No offense butit’s about time Ruby gets a love interest.

I mean she doesn’t necessarily need one. I justnever understood why she never got one before despite the series being sixseasons long going on seven. Blake, Weiss and Yang each got to have potentialsuitors and dabble in romance yet Ruby was always omitted from that. Not sureif that was due in part to Ruby being so young and often looked at as a child within hergroup but…wait that was it, wasn’t it?

Ruby couldn’t experience love because she wastoo young to understand fully what it was since she was a child. Whelp, Ruby isno longer a child anymore. She’s not the same little girl sporting combatskirts and wielding the world’s deadliest weapon.

Well…she is but she’s not little anymore. Over theseasons Ruby has matured into a fine young woman. She still maintains herclassic Ruby bubbliness but Ruby is growing into a woman now. She’s evencurrently the age she should’ve been when starting Beacon: 17.

So this makes me wonder now if V7 will be mark Ruby’s time to have her own romantic subplot. She’s finally old enough to have her own love story. Hopefully.

If I didn’t know any better, I have a feelingOscar is being set up to become Ruby’s future love interest. His and Ruby’srapport reminds me too much of Katara andAang from Avatar:The Last Airbender even down to the two year age difference.Plus I feel like if love sprouts between the Rosebuds, RWBY will keep itmutual.

I’m starting to really, really love theconcept of Ruby andOscar falling for each other at the same time. Likeas their bond grows, any feelings they might share for one another remains thesame until a point where they both realize they love each other but either a) they’ll remain oblivious to how the other feels (while everyone else around themknows about it) or b) they have these feelings and wish to reveal them but outside factors keep intervening to make them second guess like the Merge or Salemthreatening the Fall of Atlas.

I used to think that Oscar will be the mainpilot of RoseGarden within the series and it’ll be a thing where he’s the onewith the crush and Ruby is just oblivious the whole time. However like I said,the series maintained mutuality with these two.

Any sense of interest, support and dedication Oscarhas for Ruby has been reciprocated by her. In V5, we got Ruby looking out forOscar when the series would allow for those moments. As a matter of fact, Rubywas the one person who really made the effort to care for Oscar when he wasstaying with RNJR and what I liked was that was continued into V6 until it wasOscar’s turn to look out for Ruby.

 When Oscar was going through the ropes andtrying to find his bearings, Ruby was there for him. She’s still there for himmaking sure he gets some attention for his efforts. And when Ruby startedhaving her hard times, we saw Oscar step and support her too.

These two look out for each other and this iswhy I love their dynamic. It amazes me how these two have only known each otherfor no longer than a month and two weeks between V5 and V6 and already theybehave like two people who’ve known each other longer.

It makes me curious to see what theirrelationship would be like if given more time to flourish. If their trust andbelief in one another blossomed this quickly, imagine how much further it cango with more time and focus. In life, there are those relationships that prosperin a short space of time that feel like longer. I feel like RG could be that;if it hasn’t already been done already. Just saying.

To put all of this in a nutshell: I know you have yourfears Miggy but again, I wouldn’t sweat it too much m’dude. Evenif Ruby shares a dance with either Weiss or Jaune, I don’t think the context ofit will be romantic. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep repeating it, Ihaven’t seen anything remotely romantic being teased by either Ruby and Weiss or Rubyand Jaune. The main series hasn’t done anything withthese two respective ships that even give off that vibe. Ruby has always valuedJaune and Weiss as two of her dearest friends who she loves and will go aboveand beyond to protect and this ties into how they both value her as a friend.

By my observation, Weiss and Jaune care aboutRuby like she’s family. They both treat her like a surrogate younger sister and respect her asmuch. I have yet to see either of these two blush or act fidgety around Ruby to suggest that they might have feelings forher beyond a friendship. Unless the CRWBY do something in V7 to  change that point of view, then and only thenwill I believe in that prospect. But until such a time, Whiterose and Lancasterwill only be FRIEND-ships in my eyes. Sorry.

I have a feeling that we’re more likely tosee Oscar kind of go through what Jaune went through back in V2 with hisrelationship with Weiss and Pyrhha.

My Pinehead headcanon is that Oscar will want to go to the dance with Ruby but his chance endsup getting unceremoniously cock-blocked by Whitley Schnee who asks Ruby to behis date. The concept I have is that the AtlasBall will be hosted by the Schnee Dust Company so naturally the Schnees will be most present as invited guests—atleast Jacques and Whitley will be there as the head of the company and hisheir.

Ruby would most likely not wish to go withWhitley but would go on Weiss’ behalf since her BFF convinces her to go in thehopes that through Ruby chumming up to Whit, Weiss would learn of the affairs ofthe SDC that she’ll be investigating during her side of the plot for V7. Or soI’d like to think. That’s my theory anyways. 

Sorry for the long rant Miggy. I hope thisanswer helps alleviate some of your tension about the future dance episodes.

Also, I hope that my comments in thisresponse post didn’t disrespect any Whiterose or Lancaster shippers who might be reading this. At the end of the day, these areonly my opinions and don’t reflect the opinions of other Rosegardeners or the entireRosegarden community just as how I’m certain not all Whiterose or Lancastershippers are hostile toward Rosegarden or its shippers.

My thoughts here are only meant to be anhonest (maybe a bit too honest at times) expression of how I perceive certainthings and for what it’s worth, I really hope I didn’t upset any of you with mypoints about your favourite ship. That wasn’t my intention and if that sohappens to be the case then I humbly apologize.

I think I came up with a really cool RG idea, Squiggles: in the event that there is some sort of dance or event in volume 7, what if Oscar, like the good, respectful boi he is, asks Yang for her approval of asking Ruby out?

That’sa really sweet idea Miggy. As a matter of fact, I think it ties intoa question left by @protectoscarpine so lemme kill two birds with one stonehere.

“…Do you think Weiss, Blake, and Yang would giveadvice to Oscar about Ruby as well? Or would they just relentlessly tease himinstead..?”

Ialready sort of depicted a scene in a very old musing about Weiss giving Oscarsome advice about Ruby. It was during a moment Weiss, Ruby and Oscar had toattend a charity gala hosted by the Schnee Dust Company in its veryheadquarters so the three were there on a reconnaissance mission of some sort.Ruby was forced to attend the gala as Whitley’s date and during the nightWhitley had been very rude to Oscar, putting him down in front of hiscolleagues and Ruby, much to his humiliation.

AfterOscar departs from the dance, Weiss joins him on the balcony for consolationand the two share a nice brother-sisterly conversation where Weiss gives Oscarsome advice from her experience. Now this musing post was written before V6 andbefore I started including RWBY Squiggle Scripts insome of my theory posts. However I still did a good job at describing themoment. You can check out the original post right here. 

Ican see Weiss being supportive of Oscar’s interest in Ruby in her own ice queen/snowangel way just as how I can pictureBlake being supportive in a way that’s appropriate for her personality andcharacter. If anything, the one I’m definitely expecting to be supportive butequally teasing about RoseGarden is Yang.

Beingthe big sister that she is, I can definitely picture Yang taking a crack atteasing Oscar over his feelings for Ruby. I don’t think she’ll have a problemwith this relationship either. I’ve seen other depictions of Yang’s reaction toRoseGarden proven rather violent resultingin her becoming enraged at Oscar for daring to have a crush on her baby sister.The same with Qrow and I always, admittedly found those sorts of depictionskind of ridiculous.

Inever pictured Qrow or Yang to be type to become furious with Oscar (or anyonefor that matter) for wanting to romantically pursue Ruby unless the individualappeared suspicious.Since we’re talking about Oscar specifically, I don’t see these two minding atall if Oscar liked Ruby. The most I can see them doing is having their fill of amusementat poking fun at Oscar; but nothing too harsh thatresults in the kid getting hurt in the process for just having an innocentteenage boy crush. Then again, this is only my opinion and toeach their own, I suppose. 

Frommy perspective, Yang and Qrow would be cool with Oscar having a crush on Rubysince Oscar isa good boy. Despite their tensionwith Ozpin, I’d like to believe that as of V6, Yang and Qrow now differentiate Oscar from Ozpin and disassociate their feelingsabout both souls. They now see Oscar as his own person and actually havepositive opinions of him. But again that’s how I’m seeing it.

Butspeaking about Yang, Yang strikes me as the type to show her support by teasingthe living daylights out of Oscar just for her own kicks. This actually makesme think of VoltronLegendary Defender in its finalseason where Lance asked Allura on a date and he went to Coran for advice orsomething only for Coran to pull the dear old dad cardsince Coran is technically Allura’s parental guardian as entrusted by herfather King Alfor.

NowI’m picturing the opposite where, Oscar being the small town precious bean thathe is who was probably brought up on old fashioned family values going to Yangfor her blessing to ask Ruby to be his date to his dance, just as youenvisioned Miggy.

Mynew Pinehead headcanonfor Oscar’s backstory is that he was probably raised by his single mother for most of his life. Oscar never knew his fatherbecause he passed away before Oscar was born so the closest thing to a father figureOscar had was his ole Uncle Henry, a close relative of his dad who alsolooked out for him growing up and he ultimately extended the same treatment toOscar. Since AuntEm and Uncle Henryfit with the canon of the Wizard of Oz, I’m going to refer to Oscar’s auntand uncle by those names; at least in this version of my headcanon.

I’veshared a lot of headcanons for Oscar’s family. I should probably make a listone of these days. Anyways, in this headcanon, Henry and Em are actually Oscar’s great auntand uncle since Oscar’s father was their nephew. When Oscar’s fatherpassed away before he could meet his son, Uncle Henry promised Oscar’s poorwidowed mother that he and Em would help her raise Oscar in his place and bringhim up nice and fine just like his daddy. However they preferred to have Oscarrefer to them as ‘UncleHenry and Aunt Em’ to make them feelless old than they actually were. A little joke in theirfamily.

Inmy theory, Oscar once lived alone with his mother but his aunt and uncle livednot too far from Oscar’s original home so part of Oscar’s childhood was spent betweenhis house in the middle of the woods and the farm.

AnywaysUncle Henry was an old man with old fashioned ways and he brought up his nephewon those same honourable family values. So Oscar was taught that if he liked agirl and had plans to go steady with her inany shape or form; he should always ask the girl’s family for their blessingbefore he pursued anything out of respect.

AlthoughOscar simply just wants to ask Ruby to be his date to the dance; Uncle Henry’steachings was still cemented in his memories. So out of respect, Oscar shylyapproaches Yang. He goes to her as opposed to Qrow since a) Yang is Ruby’ssister and a closer blood relative and b) Yang’s more approachable than Qrow inOscar’s eyes.

Theconversation goes as well as you would hope with Yang initially being amused byOscar’s approach. But things take an interesting turnwhen the topic of Ozpin is woven into the conversation. And of course, you knowI gotta a SquiggleScript for it, right?

RWBY Squiggle Script #011: A Sister’s Blessing 

 Picture it:

Oscar: *nervously*Hey Yang, got a sec?

Yang: *flashes Oscar a welcoming smile* What’s up, farm boy?

Oscar: *nervously*You know the Atlas Dance that’scoming up?

Yang:  Of course, Weiss and I are helping out withthe preparations. Makes me think back to the time we helped back at the BeaconDance. Why?

Oscar: …Well…do you knowif…Ruby might be going?

Yang: Well we’re all going soyeah she’ll definitely be there. Why?

Oscar: *twiddling his fingers; nerves rising* Do you know if she’s…y’know… going with anyone? Like…a date?

Yang: Pffft! Yeah, like Rubywould ask anyone to—

Yangdoes a double take, quirking a brow at Oscar’s nervous face.

Yang: Why you asking?

Oscar: *blushing*It’sjust… I was wondering if it’d be okay with you if I ask Ruby to go to the dancewith me.

Yang: *a little surprised* Why are you asking for mypermission? I’m not her mom.

Oscar: Yeah but you are her older sisterwhich makes you her closest immediate family. My Uncle Henry always used to sayif you’re serious about a girl, make sure it’s okay with her family firstbefore trying anything otherwise don’t come crying if you get shot at.

Yang: … How old was your uncle Oscar? How old?

Oscar: *wearily* Ican’t say. Not unless I want myself, my future children and my futurechildren’s children to be haunted by my uncle’s ghost. So…Pine Family secret. *shrugs andchuckles awkwardly*

Yangonly laughed.

Yang: Wait, so your uncletold you only ask permission when you’re serious about a girl?

Oscar: That’s right.

Yang: So…you’re serious about my sister?

Realizationwashed over Oscar’s face, turning him pink under his tanned complexion. Aplayful smirk played at Yang’s lips and she suddenly edged very close to Oscarwho only eyeballed her awkwardly.

Yang: Oscar. *teasing grinwidening* Do you like Ruby?

Oscar: *in complete denial* N—No! NO! I…I a-admireRuby. I admire her very, very much! As a huntress ! B-Becauseshe is an amazing huntress. A very amazing huntress. And…I…respect her as a huntress and—and…and as a woman!No! A girl.A nice girl. A…pretty nice girl….A…*trails off smiling dreamily as he thinks of Ruby* A very, very pretty nice girl with…beautiful eyesand a beautiful warm smile that just—

Oscarsnaps out of his daze, remembering where he was and who he was talking to. Butunfortunately his return from la-la-love land wasn’t quick enough since Yangheard every word he just muttered and now stood looking at him with a grin so wide;it’d give the Cheshire cat competition.

Yang: *bouncing amusedly* Oh my gosh! I was justyanking your chain, you really like her!

Oscar: *embarrassedly* Shush keep your voicedown!

Yang: *mischievously* Nuh uh. I’m going to have fun withthis.

Oscar: *wearily* Please don’t.

Hisdiscomfort was only met with Yang poking his cheek; Cheshire grin still veryprominent on her face.

Yang: *grinning* Sooo Oscar…. what areyour intentions with my baby sister? *laughs* I’vealways wanted to ask that. But seriously what are your plans?

Oscar: *incredulously* Plans? What plans?

Yang: *mischievous intent intensifying* You want my blessing, right? Impress me farm boy.

Oscar: *frowning*Ishould’ve gone with Qrow. At least he would’ve been less embarrassing.

Yang: *whiny* Oohcome ooooonnnnn! *playfullypokes Oscar in the cheek with a metal finger* What are you hoping for after this dance?Do you plan on confessing your true feelings? Plan on you and Ruby dating?Make her your girlllllllllfriend?

Atthis point, Yang is up in Oscar’s face smirking down at him. Oscar in turn wasmore shades of red than a bowl of strawberries.

Oscar: I—

Oscarbacks himself up a bit from Yang’s amused eyes looming over him and takes adeep breath to easy his frantic heartbeats.

Oscar: …Honestly, it’s notabout that. *sombrely* I just want her to like me and to know that she can trust me. Witheverything that’s happened since Mistral and all the tension with Oz, I’mworried that might’ve changed how Ruby sees me. From the start, she was alwaysnice to me.Looking out for me.Getting to know me.She never once made me feel like I was just a new body for Ozpin. Another life forhim to live through. She made me feel like I was still my own person. I felt…likeshe always saw me for just me. Just plain ole Oscar. It’s why I admire—it’swhy I like her so much. That level of compassion—how she always does what shecan to help others even when she doesn’t have to. She’s not perfect. Not… like she needs tobe or anything. She has her flaws and her quirks. But that spark of hers—theway how she just inspires others. Inspires me…that made her the most beautiful girlI’ve ever met in my life. That…and she’s also really, really pretty.

Atthis point, Oscar was red from ears to cheek but he smiled giddily against hisincreasingly blushing face as he continued his confession.

Oscar: Her eyes werethe first thing I noticed about her and…they’re the first thing I notice when Ilook at her. Not cause they’re silver or…they’re magical laser beams that canvaporize Grimm but…because when I look at her eyes, I…see her. I see her for the beautifulperson she is both inside and out. How… can a guy not fall in love with her for that?

Witha humble sigh, Oscar glance at Yang only to find her gawking at him; jawhanging.

Oscar: …What?

Yang:…You love her!

Oscar: What! No…I—

Yang: That’swhat you said. That’s what you just said! I HEARD YOU! Everyword!

Oscar: *blushing and defensive* I meant…hypothetically.

Yang: But you meant it though, right?

Oscar: I…I…I—

Atthis point Oscar could feel the blood reach his face and if he got anymoreflustered, he was certain he was going to have a nosebleed at some point.

Oscar:  L–Look you already got meto admit I like her! Can we just drop ‘the other thing’ fornow? Please.Before this gets even more embarrassing.

Yang: *grinning broadly* Too late, lover boy.

Oscar: *embarrassed* Yang, I beg you please don’t make a big deal out ofthis. Even if I do feel that way with ‘the other thing’ that shall not be named, I don’t know… if Ruby… feels anything like that forme. I don’t think she would since…she’s so…and I–I’m  so…. and then there’s the Ozpin thing—

Ijust don’t know how she sees me anymore. I can’t even think about that kind ofstuff. I don’t even think that’s possible anymore with…

Oscartrails off thinking about the inevitable Merge. He then shakes his head and snapsback from his momentary depressive thought.

Oscar: For now, I just reallywant to get to know Ruby better and for her to get to know me better. The real me.While I still can. And this dance is the best chance I got. For one night, she’sdoesn’t have be a Silver Eyed Warrior and I don’t have to be the guy with twosouls where everyone…doesn’t…trust his other half.

Wecan be ourselves however we want. She can finally know me. See me again and I just…want herto at least like me for that if it’s still possible.

Yang: *gushing* Awww…. I mean, good answer. Very good answer.Okay, next question and this one’s really important.

Yangtakes a breath as her expression became sombre.

Yang: Will you ever lie to my sister? Even if was to protect her?

Hertone was surprisingly firm and this question takes Oscar aback especially withhow light-hearted and playful Yang had been with him just then.

Oscar: *incredulously* Why would you—?

Yang: *firmly* Just answer the question.I mean… I’m not trying to imply anything here;I just want to know what you would do.

Oscar: *cautiously*…I…can’t speak for the future, Yang.I can’t speak for the type of person I’m going to become. But right now, as Oscar,what I can say is that I was raised by a family built on good morals. I mean,we had our fair share of things we kept to ourselves but trust and honesty wasalways important to us. That being said, the truth is also a double edged swordand I’m willing to see both sides thanjust the one.

Yang: *tersely* So you’re saying youwould lie.

Oscar: I’m saying I don’t knowwhat I would do if I was put in that type of position. Lie to keep the personyou love from being hurt or risk hurting them with the truth anyways—it’s notas black and white as you might think. Either way it wouldn’t end well foranyone as weboth know. It’s a tough call foranyone to make and I wouldn’t know what the right choice would be and that’s mebeing very honest.

Yanglooked down Oscar sternly for a few beats before making a face as she processedhis answer. She then nods in silent acceptance of his answer before moving onto her next question.

Yang: *solemnly*Wouldyou ever hurt Ruby? I mean…not intentionally just…if she does trust you,you wouldn’t do anything to break that trust, would you?

Oscar: Of course not.  I mean, I’d try veryhard not to. Hurting Ruby is the last thing Iwant. I care too much about her after all. Right now, all I want to do is justtake her to the dance. This way she can have fun and I just want to show her agood time and hope she enjoys herself.

Yangquirks a brow at Oscar’s last comment and he immediately backpedals. 

Oscar: …I—I mean I want herto have fun with me but not too much fun,y’know what I mean? Only the appropriate amount of fun that a normal girlshould have with a boy. N—Not that I was planning on doing anything else but just appropriate fun. I—I mean—

Oscar’sstuttering is interrupted by Yang snorting, no longer able to keep up herserious façade as she laughed at the flustered look on Oscar’s beet red face.The blonde huntress then smiled at Oscar understandingly as she clapped him onthe back.

Yang: It’s okay Oscar. I hearyou. I know you’re not that type of kid. You’re a good boy Oscar.The kind of good boy… I wouldn’t be too mad about taking my baby sis to thedance.

Oscar: *perking up* Really?

Yang: Yep. You now have theYang Xiao Long full seal of approval.  

Oscar: *smiles* Thankyou, Yang.

Yang: *grinning*No problem. *grins widely* Anythingfor my futurebrother-in-law. *finger guns Oscar*

Oscar: *flustered again*…Wha—What!

Yang: *teasingly*Oh I’m just kidding! Jeez! Lighten up a little there, lover boy.You’re going to have to get used to my wacky sense of humour before you marrymy sister someday.

Oscar: Ma–marry! Wait…what!

Yang: *whistling innocently* What? Whosaid anything about marriage? Psssh! I didn’t say anything like that.

Oscar: You did just now!

Yang: *feigning innocence* Did I though Oscar? Did I really?

Oscar: *pouts* I…I’mgonna go talk to Ruby now.

Withthat, Oscar leaves Yang who waves enthusiastically behind him.

Yang: Good luck Oscar!Remember break her heart and I’ll break your legs!

Oscar: *whips around in the distance* What!

Yang: I said break a leg. Goget her, loverboy!

Evenfrom afar, Yang could hear Oscar’s long groan of embarrassment and at that, shelaughed to herself.

Yang: *amusedly*Man, I’m going to have so much fun teasing him.
