He wasn’t aware that he had been a little more stand-offish in the days lately, so he shrugged. Antonio was concerned, maybe he was feeling a little lonely, but why should that bother anyone else? They had their own lives and work to do, and he understood not everyone had time to just come around to hang about with him.
In his heart he knew why the other was saying this. He had been lonely, and yet he just backed off so others wouldn’t worry about him.
“Well, I guess there’s just so much work to do.” Says the man who was actually currently trying to find something to do, his house was already deep cleaned, shelves stocked with food. He had been putting off paperwork but who wouldn’t, paperwork is no fun.
This annoyed him. Was this Antonio acting obliviously or could he really not tell that he was acting differently? Nevertheless, Francis tried to be there for his friend, offering him a patient smile. “Although there is much to be done, it doesn’t mean one has to completely drown themselves in silence.” He didn’t mean to chastise him, but he couldn’t help but let his overprotective instincts leak through.
A man of affection, Francis placed a warm gentle hand on Antonio’s shoulder and gave him a look of understanding--a silent gesture that showed he wanted to press, but at the same time he wanted to respect his boundaries. When he saw that the stubborn man’s pride wouldn’t budge, Francis let his hand gracefully slide off of his shoulder, “Perhaps, I’m just imagining it then,” he gave in, letting Antonio have his way just this once, “I’ve been so busy, too. What is this world coming to! Can we not have a break? It seems that the world’s demise is soon upon us!” Loud, dramatic--he was trying to entertain Antonio, to keep his spirits up. Even if he didn’t know what was wrong, at the very least he could try to keep him amused.
