Good morning and happy wednesday y'all! Just another reminder to join my new community Mignon for content of the best anime mini series ever created: https://www.tumblr.com/join/j6B1T5NM
Drop in the comments which BL (or anime) are you currently into & which one were you watching before that?
Currently watching: Isekai Office Worker
Previously watching: Hyperventilation (for the gazillionth time 🤭👅)
I just discovered Mignon, a Korean BL aeni. And when I tell you I SOBBED, it’s so so so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s more like a mini series because each episode is only around 5-10 mins, but OHHHHH MYYYYYYYYY WOOOORD?!?!!!!
First of all, the story is FANTASTIC and the characters are so incredibly well written especially considering the episode length. I was VERY quickly enamoured with and rooting for both Mignon and Young-One.
The pacing was well thought out, and visually, it was stunning. A lot of the colour choices were really interesting, and frankly, just incredibly pleasing to look at.
But on top of that, the MUSIC!!!! WHAT AN EXCELLENT SCORE holy shit!!!!! I cannot tell you the force at which my jaw hit the floor with this series every time the BGM kicked in. I didn’t expect a mini series to just RIP MY SOUL OUT this hard with the music. UGH what a treat.
If you’re into vampires, boxing, or hot emo dudes + adorable himbos (with incredible depth despite the limited time to get to know them), Mignon is for you.

(There’s also an hour long “Master version.” I heard there’s going to be a manhwa adaptation too!)
actually so good and I loved it, RIGHT UP UNTIL they kind of abandoned everything that was interesting about Mignon as a character and their relationship dynamic
spoilers under the cut
I'm sorry. you're telling me this service submissive who stayed with the coach who beat him for two years exclusively so he could remain close to his doctor is just an alpha top now? really? where's the flavour. where's the pizzazz. WHY did he have to lose his white hair and his big blue eyes and why did he suddenly become boring and an asshole the minute he did?
Mignon would NEVER be pushy with the doctor, he would take any scraps given to him even after being turned and LIKE IT. he would do anything the doctor asked.
the thing about Mignon is that he is likeable and interesting exclusively because he's pathetic. he's the absolute perfect guard dog character archetype. there was serious potential here to double down on the power imbalance in their relationship between a vampire and a human and to cement the D/s dynamic they so clearly already have
I think it's just kind of a shame he's a vampire now too. he didn't need to be. I believe wholeheartedly the doctor could have saved him, and then Mignon would have felt in his debt even if the doctor does love him (which I think he does, which is also what makes Mignon feeling inferior to him/indebted to him even better)
there is no reason why I wouldn't believe the doctor was a good enough doctor to patch him up again, maybe I'm missing something but the point is. I miss pathetic Mignon. I don't care who's topping, I just want him to be in character again
because then also if the doctor is kind of icy to him after they're in it together that could be Interesting!!!! maybe it was an episode count limit, but regardless, it could have been beautiful and instead they completely fumbled the landing
there's a beautiful world out there where Mignon is the service sub he was always meant to be. even if that world is just in my head.
also think there was a missed opportunity with the doctor. he doesn't want to drink Mignon anywhere near as much as he should do, I wasn't getting any of the struggle for control which is what vampire stuff is so good for. the doctor should be locked into this unwilling master/servant dynamic in which Mignon wants to be his Everything but the doctor won't let them because he cares about Mignon and doesn't want to hurt him. but the thing is Mignon has been getting hurt for two straight years in order to be close to the doctor - you can't tell me that doesn't fuck you up. he absolutely has a weird relationship with pain when it comes to the doctor, so why wouldn't he want the doctor to be the one hurting him if that (his blood) is what he needed?
