You were an assistant, clipboard in hand, casual business wear, hair pent up, and comfortable yet classy flats on your feet. You were always ready to accompany your boss, never asking questions about where he led you. You didn't care so long as you got paid in the end, so it was shocking when you began to attend the Kegan Matches with him. You've heard of things like this in movies, TV shows, and cartoons... But you never expected it to be real.

You were shocked by the first match-up, a young Man versus another young man, they were both muscular but different sizes, one wore a karate-type uniform while the other wore simple boxing shorts, both bare-knuckled. You watched on, still just as perplexed as you were the first time you watched him battle, it was like lightning, so quick and fast nobody saw it coming or even knew what happened, his opponent was down and out and he was declared the winner.

"Rei Mikazuchi... I'll never forget his name." You promised yourself, and you didn't. When the official Kengan Annihilation Tournament was declared, you knew that he would be there, you wanted to see him again, you had to, just to confirm that he was real... And he was when you saw him again, it was on the luxurious Kengan Cruise Liner, he was there with his boss, Rino Kurayoshi, the beauty on her was unmatched. He seemed pretty dedicated to her, almost like a dog.

You spoke with her a few times, Rei by her side each and every time, ready to defend when necessary, but you never came with the intention to attack so he didn't mind your presence, he was prone to get lost in his own world, his thoughts as he stares off in the distance. You've learned to like those little details about him, it was so rare to see a human be just as calm as he was, he always seemed to never have any thoughts, and yet the gleam in his eyes always said otherwise. He was fascinating. For the first few days, waiting for the Kengan Annihilation Tournament to begin, you and your boss spent the days with Rino and Rei, not every moment, but enough to where you and Rei could have small talks.

You learned that he was an assassin and that he was the Head of the Mikazuchi Clan and the renounced owner of the Lighting God Technique, it seemed like such a big title and yet he seemed nonchalant about it like it didn't really mean all that much to him. He was a strange man but you liked him. He was sweet, easy to blush, and quick to hide out, he was adorable and you liked teasing him. To be so strong yet so fragile to light teasing was such a cute sight. You'd laugh every time his face would turn scarlet just from a few compliments.

The Kengan Annihilation Tournament was finally beginning, and you couldn't be more excited to see him in action, after so many weeks of waiting, you were finally going to see him at it again. His first match, just like when you first saw him, was quick, like lightning. His second match was more unexpected, he never even got to that speed with the hot-blooded bastard that was Saw Paing Yoroizuka, Saw was strong and skilled, he was just as quick with his reflexes, but he still wasn't faster than Rei. You watched on with bated breath, watching as he rocked Saw Paing's head around with quick punches, it was jaw-dropping to see Saw still able to move around.

But alas, with a last stitched effort, Rei came out victorious... But he wasn't pleased, not one bit... He seemed disappointed with the battle... With himself. Rino noticed it, but she didn't care or maybe she just didn't know how to approach him, but you did. You found him, in the hall sitting on a bench, head hanging low as his bandaged arms rested on his legs. He was deep in thought, but this time his face matched his thoughts. You approached him with a bottle of water. "Here ya go, take a swig, you need it." You said he took the bottle, but he didn't open it... He just stared at it.

"I lost." He said. You stared at him, perplexed but you didn't say anything. "I lost, in strength, I lost in resilience... The only thing that saved me was my speed and precision... Fighting that man, made me realize just how weak I really am... I need to get stronger, stronger in technique and fighting styles... Perhaps, I should give up the practice of Lightning." He said. You stepped towards him, smacking his cheek with a swift snap of your wrist. His head barely moved, but his eyes widened and he looked up at you, a frown on your usually passive face.

"Don't give up on who you are Rei, you're more than just your fighting style, you are the fighting style, you are the lightning. Saw Paing may be better than you when it comes to brute strength, he may be better than you when it comes to resilience, but that's because of who he grew into being... What did you grow up into being, Rei? It most certainly wasn't a quitter. You're a distant long-range fighter, but that doesn't make you weak... You'll just have to add close combat into that. Mix it with your lightning, drop your assassin mindset, and become a warrior." You said, your voice laced with determination.

He stared at you for a moment before his face relaxed and he smiled, a small chuckle leaving his lips. "You're right, (Y/N)... If I'm going to be able to get stronger, then I'm just going to have to change some things up... Saw Paing taught me a very valuable lesson, and I'll honor him by taking what he's taught me and adding it to my own lightning style." he said, you smiled, happy to see a fire in his eyes. "Do it Rei, I believe in you." You said.

Right after that, your and Rei's relationship pretty much came to life, you both became the best of friends which lasted for a while, and you watched him grow into a better fighter and a better man. Your feelings for him blossomed into something stronger, and it worried you, you didn't want to run him off but with the help of Saw Paing, both you and Rei were able to speak your minds on your relationship and what you were both feeling towards one another. Learning that it wasn't one-sided on each side. It was a blessing.

You enjoyed going to all of Rei's fights, cheering him on with your new-found companions, hoping for his win, and whenever he lost he didn't take it so harshly, instead he learned from them adding it to his knowledge. After every match he'd come straight to you, whether he won or lost he always engulfed you in a hug, giving you the deepest kiss, reminding you of his eternal gratefulness.

It was cloudy outside, and the sound of rain hitting the window sounded out, giving a relaxing atmosphere. The shadow of water droplets covered your bodies and the bed, the lining of the window leaving black shadow lines over your bodies as well. You sighed as you looked back, seeing Rei's relaxed face snuggled into the back of your shoulder. 'He's such a cutie when he wants to be.' You thought as you looked away, sinking into the comfort of his warmth.

You and Rei, are not a couple... in fact... there is no love in this relationship at all, you both met on a normal day, deep in New York City, you were out and about, looking for something to get into, and he was out on his own accord. You didn't know nor care to know why he was coming from that back alleyway, his black hoodie looking wet and goofy, all you knew was that he was cute. Eventually, he finally approached you at a McDonald's one day, you were sipping on your drink, having just finished a burger, and you were looking out the window when someone randomly sat down in front of you. You looked over, and there you saw the mysterious hotty. A serious look on his face as he stared you down. You gave him a little way as you smiled. "Hi?" You said. He stared at you for a moment, before he got straight to it. "Are you following me?" He asked.

"Don't play games with me, if you're following me then I won't hesitate to kill you, I don't care for outside interference." He said. You picked up your cup and you sipped your drink before you spoke. "I'm not following you at all, I just happen to be in the same areas you are in, it's strange but it's true. I travel all over this side of New York, it's my home, so I'm bound to travel all over it." You said.

He stared at you for a moment, before he stood up from his chair and left, you didn't see him again after that. It was months before you saw him again, you were just leaving your home when you were pushed into an alleyway, your mouth muffled as you staggered backward with the stranger. They held you tight, their hold strong. "Don't scream when I let go... I'm not going to hurt you." He said. Your eyes widened at the familiar voice, and you nodded. He released you and as promised you didn't scream and he didn't hurt you.

"YOU!? WHAT THE FUCK MAN!?" You shouted. He stared at you, unfazed. "Sorry about the abrupt approach, but I needed to speak with you." He said. You scoffed as you crossed your arms over your chest. "What the fuck is so damn important, that you gots to go and snatch me like a damn murder?" You asked. "It's about that day at the restaurant, I wanted to apologize for my rudness." He said. You stared at him like he was crazy. "That's all? You wanted to apologize to me for that?" You asked. He nodded.

You looked off as you shook your head before you looked back at him. "I don't care about that... I forgot that shit even happen... You had every right to be suspicious the way you did, I mean I would've been suspicious too if I were you, so no hard feelings, alright?" You said. He nodded in understanding and you nodded in return. "Good, now.... You wanna go grab a bite to eat?.... My treat!!... But we gotta stick in the dollar range, I ain't rich." You said.

He seemed to crack a small smile at that as he nodded. "Okay." He said... That was nearly a year ago. You were both great friends for a while, but you friendship took a turn after he came to your apartment late one night, seeking some form of comfort when one of his jobs took a turn for the worst. He was covered in blood on his entire left side, a dazed look on his face, and you snatched him in as fast as you could before anyone could see him.

"Good god, Rei. you look like absolute shit... What happened to you?" You asked him as you peeled his clothes off, being caution as you didn't know if the blood was his or not. "I mess up... I screwed up badly... I panicked... She was crying so loudly, and I didn't know what to do." He said as you undressed him. "Who was crying, Rei?" You asked him as you threw his shirt in the kitchen sink, you raced back over to him with a rag, and wiped off his shoulder, neck, and chest.

"The little girl." He answered, your hands paused for a moment before you continued to wipe him down, looking for any wounds. "What happened to make the little girl cry?" You asked him. "Her dad... I killed him... Killing is my job, its what I do... but... I wasn't expecting his little girl to be there too... I didn't know she was there, and after I killed her dad... She came downstairs and she cried... she was so loud and I didn't know how to make her get quiet so I..." He trailed off.

The room was silent after that, only the sound of you walking back and forth, squeezing out the rag, rinsing it, and going back to wipe him down some more. He didn't speak again until after you threw his clothes into the wash, only in his boxers as he sat there on the floor, numb.

You came back in the room, after throwing his clothes in the wash "I killed her... It wasn't a part of the job... It wasn't supposed to happen like that... I... I don't kill children... I never have... To kill a child... It felt so evil... so wrong... (y/n)... Am I evil?" He asked you as he looked up at you. Your heart clenched as you saw the broken look in his eyes, his hands shaking as he waited, hoping for an answer. You sighed as you walked over to him, you sat down next to him and wrapped an arm around his shoulder, pulling into your side, he fell over with ease, his head pressed into the side of your breasts as you grabbed his shoulder.

"No Rei... No, you are not evil... You probably did her a favor... I can't see her living to be normal after seeing such a traumatic sight, so you did her some good by killing her... Just be more careful in the future okay?" You said. He nodded his head as he wrapped his arms around you. You both sat there for a moment. "Alright, fuck off me, enough of that mushy shit, you need a shower, come on." You said as you eased him off of you, he sat up his eyes seeming less dull and slightly more eased than earlier. You grabbed his hand as you stood up. "Come on, I'll get the shower ready for you." You said a small smile on your face.

He stood up and followed you to the bathroom... You aren't sure how it happened, or why, but in that moment, you didn't care. Your breathless moans filled the steam-filled bathroom, your wet bodies rubbing against one another, your hand tangled in his hair while the other around his shoulders, your legs wrapped around his waist, your arms wrapped around you tightly as he thrusts into you rapidly.

The water runs clear and soapy around your feet, his once blood-soaked hair now clean with water. He licked up your neck, as he gave breathless moans close to your ear. You didn't question it, you didn't care, it was something you both needed, him more than you for obvious reasons... After that... It was normal to meet up for either sex or just to talk... Friends with benefits... nothing more and nothing less. It stayed that way for months, till this very moment, lying on the bed together, on this cloudy rainy day in New York.

"(Y/N)... I need to tell you something." He suddenly spoke. You hmmed in question, your fingers playing along the back of his up to his arms. "I'm leaving." He said, your fingers paused. "Where will you be going?" You asked. "Back to my home country, Japan... I've been given an assignment." He said. Your fingers went back to playing along his arm as you spoke. "What's the assignment this time?" You asked him. "My new assignment is a woman named Rino Kurayoshi, it shouldn't take me too long." He said.

You hummed at that saying nothing more as you both relaxed in the bed... No matter what happens, it shouldn't matter to you, because in the end, you weren't lovers, just friends with benefits... no feelings involved... that's the plan... that was the plan...but it honestly wasn't full proof... He left... and he never returned... it's like he forgot you ever existed, leaving you alone in your apartment, full of memories of him, leaving you heartbroken... But you weren't in love... You weren't supposed to be.

Living is already hard, having to pay bills, and making sure you have enough for groceries, hygienic products, household products, and even a little treat for yourself, but like they always say " life is what you make it" , just like home. Living in your own place can be rough at times, having nosy neighbors that could be rude on top of it, a stingy landlord, DHA on your ass for the smallest of reports, bugs, piping, cracks, not enough space, or too much space, but home is what you make it.

If that's the case, then couldn't that go for love too? You choose who you love, but you can't choose 'what' you love. For example, you fall in love with a lair, but you'll never know that they're a liar until you're in too deep. That goes for thieves, killers, rapists, racists, sexists, homophobes, pedophiles, stalkers, and abusers, it applies to all of them. You can't just back out and say 'Let's break up, I never want to see you again.' after spending 5 years with a person, even 1 year is more than enough time to develop a bond that's almost inseparable.

Humans are social animals, we thrive in social activities, even those who say they don't still do. Watching TV is a form of social interaction, you're learning characters, developing feelings for the ones you like most or despise, and researching their real age and where they come from. Even just reading this now, is a form of social interaction. Another human wrote this, and you're deep into the stories that have been written on this blog, you may have even followed and are extremely pleased that there is another writer who writes for this fandom. Social interactions are everywhere you look. In a book, on TV, in your phone, or even in a picture.

It's hard to pull back, especially when you had learned that Rei was an assassin. You were angry, you felt betrayed, you felt underestimated in your loyalty. It was like he didn't trust you enough, but you were in too deep to tell him to 'never see me again.' You've met Rei for Rei. You've seen him laugh, you've seen him cry, sleep, eat, vulnerable, strong, and funny. You've seen him at his highest and at his lowest, so why didn't he trust you enough to let you know?... Fear, he was afraid that you'd reject him, call him a monster and a killer, which you wouldn't be wrong, but can a monster love like he does? Can a monster cry like he does? You'd think not.

You love Rei for Rei, and he loved you for you, you made a deal with him, that he can continue his job unless it's just evil people that he killed, but he couldn't agree to that, simply because evil people just don't exist in his eyes. "Everyone has a different point of view on life, you'd either die and let a starving child eat your last meal, you'd eat the meal and leave the child to starve, or you'd eat the child and save the food for later, there's no in-between. However. there is a fourth option, sharing the food, but one of you will still end up in the other's stomach in the end. Either way, you look at it, it's either evil or good. Or take this, you're about to be murdered, will you let the killer kill you? Or will you kill the killer? Either way, someone is dead, and there will still be a mother weeping over their dead child." That was Rei's point of view.

So, you decided that he'd stop killing instead, you wanted to argue with his logic, but no matter how you looked at it, it was the truth. He was so blunt about it, just like how blunt he is for his love for you. He wants you to be blunt, so you will, and you want him to stay. Knowing that he has spilled blood on his hands, knowing that he's destroyed families, you still wanted him... Suddenly his logic on life was staring you in the face. Cuddling up with Rei, holding him tight at night when he'd have nightmares, having breakfast with him, lunch, dinner, laughter, and dates... It was a part of Rei, it was a part of you.

It was what you guys did, it was all you guys could do because it was a strange romance, but whoever said that there was a guidebook to romance? It was what you make it, and honestly, you guys were doing a damn good job at it too.

The Moral of the Story

You were a simple maid of the Kurayoshi family, you've worked in their mansion for about a year and a half now, but Rei Mikazuchi was already here by the time you could score a job here. You've been aware of Rei for a while now, but your heart didn't always flutter when you talked to him, which was rare, seeing as how he never left Lady Kurayoshi's side. You didn't always blush when he came around, you didn't always dream about him, you didn't always fantasize about him, you didn't always touch yourself to the thought of him... it wasn't always like this.

When you first got here, you had never seen this 'Rei Mikazuchi'... he was like a legend amongst the staff, but they always spoke highly of him... at least the women and older men did. They'd say that he was an amazing bodyguard, he was a great help with moving heavy furniture, and he kept great watch over Miss Kurayoshi, there weren't many negative comments about the man, aside from the fact that he was too overprotective of Miss Kurayoshi, he was a stick in the mud, and he wasn't the friendliest guy around.

For months, you heard about him, but you had never seen him, it was all on that one faithful day. You were on grounds duty, trimming the hedges, checking and watering the flowers, cleaning the pool, checking the lounge chairs, and washing the pavement. It was a big job, but it was your favorite. You were usually cooped up inside, so when you got to work outside you enjoyed it. You were busy checking the flowers under Miss Kurayoshi's balcony, humming a sweet little tune as you worked. There were men going in and out of the mansion all day, bringing in newly purchased furniture pieces.

Miss Kurayoshi wanted to change the theme of her bedroom, so she ordered new furniture a month ago, and today was the day they decided to bring it all in. You were checking the roses, one of your favorite sections of the flowers. They were pink and white, so beautiful in the sunlight. You were deep into your job, too engrossed in the pretty flowers to see the giant bed frame being pushed over the edge of the balcony.

The sound of metal scraping metal sounded out, but you ignored it, thinking it was one of the movers bringing out some old furniture around the front. The bed frame teetered over the edge before it came rushing down towards you. You stood up and smiled pleased at your work, the roses were wet but not drenched, a job well do- CRASH!!! Your ears ringing, the world was spinning, and your senses couldn't make sense of anything. 'I... I'm being carried?... No... I'm getting put down?... Where am I?... The pool is so pretty and blue... it's sparkling in the sunlight... wait... I was just watering the roses right?... So, why am I here?' You thought, your senses slowly coming back to you.

"Ma'am... ?.... Ma'am.....me?.... Ma'am, can .....me?.... Ma'am, can you hear me?" You blinked, your head turning towards where the voice was coming from. Next to you, crouched next to the lounge chair you were sitting on, was a man with dark blue hair, almost black. His dark blue eyes caught you in a trance. 'Wow... he's handsome...' You thought as your face warmed up. He waved a hand in front of your face, making you snap from your daydream. "Are you okay?... You were almost crushed by that bedframe... It's a good thing I saw you when I did... or else, you'd be dead." He spoke, his voice even and monotone.

"Oh?... I didn't notice..." You said as you looked past him, seeing the bedframe smashed into the pavement, it was broken to pieces in some places, but other than that, it was still pretty much together. "Damn, that's terrifying." You said aloud. He stared at you a little longer before he stood up. Your eyes scanned over him, taking in his appearance, he wore a white t-shirt that fitted him very nicely, and his jeans fitted well too. Your face warmed once more. 'Wow... what a hunk... even his voice is nice to listen to too.' You thought. You were pulled from your thoughts when he spoke once more. "You need to be more careful, next time you really will die, my only responsibility is Rino and Rino alone... I won't let any other woman take my attention away simply because she lack self preservation." He spoke, his voice holding no room for argument.

Your blush slightly faded away as you took in his words. 'Oh...so he has a woman does he?... Shame....WAIT!!!!' You thought, as your eyes shifted back to the flowers. You saw that they were smashed under the bedframe. "NOOOOOO!!!! MY HARD WORK!!!!" You cried as you rushed past him. He stared at you in shock as he listened to you ramble by the busted bedframe. "NO! NO! NO!! MISS KURAYOSHI'S FLOWERS HAVE BEEN RUINED, AND AFTER I'VE GIVEN THEM SO MUCH LOVE AND CARE!!! NOOOOO!!!" You shouted as you ran your hands through your hair ruining your bun. The man walked past you, seemingly uncaring as he continued on his way. "Stop your complaining, Rino doesn't give a damn about those flowers, they weren't even her favorite, so she could care less." He said as he slid open the patio door before he steeped in and slid them closed behind him.

You stared where he vanished, tears in your eyes as you stared lost in a daze. "But... I liked them..." You said sadly as you looked down at the now ruined flowers. You sighed, as you walked away, continuing your usual routine around the garden.

... 'That was when I first met him, Rei Mikazuchi, I've been obsessed with him ever since...It's silly really... He's never been nice to me... he's never spared me a second glance... never acknowledged my existence, he acted like he never even saved me... Rino was all that he cared about... She was all he could see... It almost wasn't fair... But what could you do... too little too late...' You thought as you mopped the floor near the front door, cleaning up the mess that you accidentally made earlier. 'I've ran into him countless times after that, and he never even gave me a second glance, even when I tried to thank him, he just looked at me and said. "I don't know what you're talking about."... How could he forget that fast?... But... I guess that's what real love is like...' You thought, your throat feeling tight, as your lower lip wavered, tears gathering in your eyes.

'Why is it always the pretty girls who get the guy that I want?... Even if he wasn't with Rino, he still wouldn't have given me a second glace, I'm not as pretty as her, and I'm not perfect... compared to her I'm like garbage on the floor... I need to stop... I hate this feeling... I hate feeling jealous, sad, pitiful... I hate it so much.' You thought as your grip on the mop tightened. You wiped your tears, cleaning your face from your salty tears. 'I really need to stop feeling so sorry for myself, that's how life goes... we can't always get what we want in this world.' You thought as you walked away from the front door, going down the hall to put away the mop.

You heard very familiar voices coming down the hall, you looked up, your heart skipping a beat as you saw Rei Mikazuchi, next to the woman you hate that you hated so much, Rino Kurayoshi... Your grip on the mop tightened as you took a deep breath, calming your emotions down until they were almost numb. You walked past them, not sparing them a glance as you went to the right closet, you placed the mop inside, getting the buffer and wood polish for the stair railing. You looked down the halls, seeing that Rei and Rino had both gone about their way. You smiled pitifully to yourself.

"We all can't have it good... that's the moral of the story." You said as you closed the closet door.
