Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
“Well would you look at that grin.” Victoria said the moment Y/N had walked back into the hotel room. The words had caused Y/N blush slightly and if it was possible, the grin on her face grew more. “I haven’t seen you this way in a very long time.”
“It’s been an interesting night.” Y/N said with a nod as she went and sat down next to Victoria on the couch that was in the corner of the room.
“I’d ask if Klaus had removed the compulsion, but something tells me if he did you wouldn’t be here right now.” Victoria said with a shrug.
An eyebrow rose on Y/N's face before realization hit her as to what her best friend was saying. “I doubt it. Even if I had gotten them back, it's been thirty years. Nothing can be that easily fixed.”
“How do you know?” Victoria asked as she leaned forward in her seat. “All those memories are going to come back and it will be like the last thirty years never happened.”
“But they did.” Y/N sighed as she ran her hand through her hair. “He even watched me take off from a restaurant in California, just from hearing his name.” She shook her head slightly.
“I remember that.” Victoria said with a slight nod. “We were meeting for dinner that night and when I came back from feeding, you were gone.”
“Funny thing is, I never remember the reasons why I moved on from where I was. No matter how hard I try to think about it, I find more days that I'm missing in my memory.” Y/N shook her head. “Compulsion can really be a bitch.”
“Well, I’m sure Elijah is doing his best to convince Klaus to undo the compulsion.” Victoria said giving her a smile.
_____
“Where is she?!” Klaus demanded the moment Elijah returned to the compound.
“Y/N is probably trying to process all the information I’ve given her.” Elijah said as he walked towards Klaus.
“And the bracelet?” Klaus asked.
“I assure you the bracelet is in safe hands now that Y/N is no longer compelled to keep it on her.” Elijah said watching his brother for a moment.
“It won’t be safe unless it is back where it belongs.” Klaus said wanting to know where it was his brother had stashed the bracelet.
Elijah rolled his eyes at the words. “Where it belongs shouldn’t matter. It should be destroyed.”
“Destroying it won’t change anything.” Klaus shook his head. “I did what I believed was needed.
“What exactly did you do?” Elijah asked, an angry glaze in his eyes. “Yes I know that you’ve compelled her and taken everything away from her. But I need to know what exactly it is that you forced her to do.”
“Why?” A smirk grew on Klaus’ lips. “So you can truly see if what I did was worth it? Tell me Elijah, how long would it have been before you eventually pushed her away? You two were fighting a lot more than usual. I did you a favor.”
“That wasn’t your call to make!” While Elijah did have a past of pushing the women away he loved away because of the things that happened to them because of his family, Y/N had been different. Despite the fights, he had been willing to make things work. “If Y/N wanted to leave willingly, I would have allowed her to. But this whole time had been a lie that you’ve orchestrated.”
Klaus’ smirk never fell. Even as he held out his hand. “Allow me to show you what happened that night. To finally put this all to rest and then you can tell me if what I had done was right or wrong.”
Elijah eyed his brother’s hand for a moment. He ignored his hand and took a step towards him, placing his hand on Klaus’ head.
________
The knocking on the door had made Y/N burrow deeper into her side of the bed she shared with Elijah. She wasn't at all ready to speak to anyone and there was no way Elijah was back already. He wouldn't have knocked if it was him.
"Please go away." Y/N said loud enough for whoever it was that was standing outside the door would hear her and leave.
"I can't do that." Klaus said as he opened the door and walked into the room.
"I'd like to be alone right now, Klaus." Y/N said not moving from her spot, not even to look towards him.
“I get it,” Klaus began as he walked over towards the bed and sat on the edge of it. “You’re upset with my brother. But you being up here, alone and feeling sorry for yourself isn’t going to fix the problem at hand.”
A humorless laugh passed Y/N’s lips as she sat up. “Why do you care?” She asked looking over at him. “You always seem so amused whenever your brother and I argue.”
Klaus shrugged slightly. “I have my reasons to be amused. At times you both seem to be walking on eggshells around each other. No doubt when my brother returns the two of you will be arguing about the whole ordeal. Is it really that bad that you’ve been left behind?”
Y/N rolled her eyes. “It’s not the being left behind that bothers me.” She said before sighing and running her hand through her Y/H/C hair. “It’s that I’m here doing absolutely nothing. I’d rather be out there with him doing something than here waiting for something to happen.”
A small smile pulled at his lips. “Well you know nothing will happen to you with us here.”
“That’s my point.” She said shaking her head. “It wasn’t going to a bad thing to leave with him.” Another sigh passed her lips as she got up off the bed. “One of these days it would be nice to leave and go somewhere with Elijah without there being some kind of danger.”
“You realize there will always be some kind of threat to us with the sireline wars and anyone who wishes to try and best us.” Klaus said as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“I get it.” She said with a nod. “I really do. This is just me letting my thoughts run a bit wild with what’s going on.”
“What exactly is running through that head of yours?” He was curious. Though while he was, he hoped it would help with what he had come up there to do.
She shrugged slightly as she walked over to the window in the room.. She moved the curtain back, looking outside. “Guilt mostly. That if I hadn’t been so wrapped up in your family, Alyssa would still be alive. My friends are targets because I’m involved with your brother. I know better though, I said I would be there and face his enemies by his side and yet I’m over here complaining.”
Y/N was upset, that was a given. Like any vampire would, her feelings were a bit intensified. The guilt too strong, the anger at James and even the worry for her own life had been mixed together and throwing her for a loop.
“How about leaving now?” Klaus asked as he stood from his spot. “You could go anywhere you wanted until this was over.”
“I couldn’t do that even if I wanted to.” She said shaking her head and looking over at Klaus. “I’d be right back here without caring about what happens next.”
“What if I gave you a reason to want to leave New Orleans?” He asked taking a step towards her.
Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she watched him. “What do you mean give me a reason?”
“If I simply asked for you to take a small trinket and run with it, would you?” He asked hopeful that it would be that easy.
“What trinket?” She asked still slightly confused. “Why would you want me to run with it? I’m sure it would be safe wherever it is you keep your other trinkets.”
"The bracelet." Klaus said as he held up a bracelet for Y/N to look at. Y/N's eyebrow raised for a moment as she looked at the item in Klaus' hand. “We need it at a safe distance while this all goes down.
"Rebekah works fast." She said taking note of how the bracelet had looked. The pendant that hung from it looked heavy. “I didn’t hear her come back.”
Klaus chuckled. “Rebekah isn’t back yet. This is the real one.”
“What?” Y/N asked as she looked at him in disbelief. “You said it was in Mystic Falls”
Klaus shrugged slightly. “I lied.”
Y/N shook her head as she turned to grab her phone. Her intentions to call Elijah and tell him that Klaus had it the whole time. Before her hand could even pick the phone up off the nightstand, Klaus had her pinned up against the wall.
“I wouldn’t do that.” He said looking at her, annoyance in his eyes.
“You sent them out there for nothing.” Her voice raised slightly. “He needs to come back.” She said as she tried pushing him away from her but he hadn’t budged.
“You see that had been my whole plan.” He said with a slight shrug. “It would be easier to get you to take the bracelet and do as I want without by brother here. Your plan would have worked, but something tells me you would have gotten in the way somehow. You would have been captured or something would have happened to you that would have caused my brother to act as his noble self and I can’t have that.”
Y/N’s eyes widened as she realized what he was planning. “Don’t do this Klaus.” She said said shaking her head as she tried pushing him away from her again. But just like the first attempt he hadn’t moved.
“Trust me, Y/N this is better for us if you do this, no one gets hurt in the end.” Klaus said as he brought hand up to hold her chin in place.
Y/n moved her head to the side, her eyes landing on the floor, not wanting to give the Klaus the chance to compel her. “I’m asking you not to do this. There has to be some other way Klaus.” She tried pushing him away, harder this time. She had managed to push him back enough, but she had just been slammed back against the wall.
“I’m sure there is but this one is easier. We’re running out of time.” Klaus grabbed a hold of her chin forcing her head up to look up at him. He watched as her eyes looked anywhere but him. “Would you rather I kill you and make is seem as if James had gotten to you?”
Her eyes snapped to his and she shook her head slightly. “If you do this Klaus, just know the moment I can I’m gonna raise hell an-”
“If you ever get the chance, it won’t last long.” He said, his eyes focused on hers as he began to compel her. “You aren’t going to remember anything about your time with us here in New Orleans. In fact, you never stepped into this town ten years ago. You’ll be keeping the bracelet safe, never asking why you do. And every time you hear the name Elijah Mikaelson, you’ll run for at least a hundred miles. Panic will fill you and all you’ll know is that you have to run, to keep the bracelet safe.” A small smile pulled at his lips. “To keep him safe from danger. You’ll only remember your past when I say ‘Hell is empty’ and you reply with ‘all the devils are here’. You’ll only be able to remember when you see me once the phrase is complete.”
Y/N nodded, the compulsion taking over. Satisfied, Klaus took a step back and watched as she stood there for a moment. He watched as the compulsion settled over her, a smirk pulling at his lips. “One last thing, love.” He said as he watched her look towards him. “ Before you completely forget the past, I’ll need you to leave a Elijah a note saying your leaving because you can’t be a target for our family anymore. That its for the best and you don’t want him following you. Make it believable. When you are done, come find me.”
Y/N nodded once more as she looked around the room before making her way over to the desk. Grabbing a pen, she began writing on a piece of paper that had been there.
Elijah,
I’m not even sure where to start with this letter, but I know I need to do it. Tonight has made me realize that no matter what future we may have thought we could have, we can’t have it. Your family comes with numerous enemies. Plenty of them come out of the woodwork and we had been able to face them together. But with these enemies comes the bright, shiny, perfect target that is on my back. I can’t live like that, Elijah. Even with our fight tonight, you had told me you couldn’t think straight if I was in danger because of you. Yet here I am, confined to a room to help prevent someone taking my life. So the best solution I can think of is to leave. To not have to look over my shoulder in fear.
Don’t look for me. It’s better this way.
Y/N picked up the letter and placed it on the nightstand before leaving the room. Down in the courtyard she found Klaus standing there, going through her phone.
“I’ve erased everything that had to do with the last ten years. I suggest getting a new phone once you are away from here.” He said as he held out the phone to her. She took it from him and slid it into her pocket. He could see the slight confusion on her face as to what was going on.
Taking her empty hand, he placed the bracelet in her hands, his eyes locking on hers once more. “You’ll keep this on you at all times and you’ll guard it with your life.” He watched as she nodded once more. Her fingers closed around the bracelet tightly. “Now, Y/N, can you tell me who Elijah Mikaelson is?”
He watched as she blinked several times before he watched as panic began to fill her. “I-” She began to say. “Excuse me, but I need to leave.” That was the last thing Klaus had heard her say before she was gone from his sight. His smirk present as he turned to look around the courtyard for a moment.
____
“She asked you not to do that to her.” Elijah said shaking his head in disbelief as he pulled his hand back and stepped away from his brother. “She pleaded with you not to make her leave and you couldn’t bring yourself to care.”
“I did what was needed.” Klaus said defending his actions. “Her friends had been out of reach. Which left her as a target. You would have easily handed over the bracelet if her life depended on it.”
“She was safe here!” Elijah’s voice raised. “She was safe as long as one of us were with her. You sent her out with the bracelet knowing others would follow her. You compelled her to move the moment my name was brought up, knowing others knew who she was. You took her life away from her because you refused to believe we would have found another way to handle the situation.”
All he could think about was the hurt in Y/N’s eyes in Klaus’ memories. The way she fought to stay there before Klaus’ compulsion took over. It angered Elijah to know that everything he had believed for the last thirty years had been a lie. The empty tomb, the letter Y/N had left behind, seeing her in California, it all had been a lie that his brother had fabricated.
It was in that moment that Elijah began to feel guilty. Guilt for not just allowing Y/N to accompany him to Mystic Falls. Guilt for even fighting with her in the first place. The last thirty years could have been avoided if he had just agreed to her going with him.
“Look at how well things played out.” Klaus said crossing his arms. “We had went ahead with the plan. The real thing was safely at a distance while we lured James in with the fake. It was a flawless plan indeed. No one to cause a distraction and no one to cause any kind of trouble for us in the years that came after.”
Elijah took a step closer to Klaus. “Tomorrow you will be here to remove her compulsion. Even if I have to ask for Freya’s help to bound you, you will give her back her memories.”
Klaus’ eyebrow raised at his brother. He shook his head slightly a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. Taking a step towards Elijah, he closed the distance between them. “Stick her in a room with me and I’ll have her heart out of her chest before anyone can blink.”
