So after seeing the new RascalxSNK designs, I naturally had to draw my own versions of Mike and Nanaba. Then I decided, it would be fun to try my hand at making my own keychains as gifts and for myself if a rare piece ever arises that I don't stand a chance of getting my hands on...cos you know, why not! Pretty simple and very quick to do, but it did take me a couple of practice makes to get the desired results. (I suck at tutorials, but here goes...) First off you will need: A hot glue gun Clear adhesive plastic sheeting Scissors Whiteboard marker EVA Foam (Optional if you want a bulky keychain) Cardboard (An old cereal box will do) Keychain attachment Pliers (two sets will be best as this part is pretty fiddly) Step One. Print your design to the desired size and cut around it, (leaving a bored is optional, but I chose to do this as it was easier and adds a little more strength) making sure you leave an ample amount where you want to thread your keychain link through. Step Two. Cover the cut out with the clear adhesive, be careful not to leave any air bubbles while doing this. I find the best method it to peel partly from the backing paper and lay across your design. Slowly smooth it out as you roll down to avoid creasing and air bubbles forming. I also recommend covering both sides, mainly because it acts as a barrier for the glue and won't damage your paper. Step Three. This part all depends on the thickness you want for your keychain. EVA foam will add quite a bit of density. (even if it is only the thin A4 sheets) For a thin keychain, simply use a sheet of cardboard and glue it to the back of your design. (Be careful because it is hot glue, but also don't dawdle as it dries within seconds!) Step Four. Add one last layer of clear adhesive so it covers the entire design front to back. (Make sure to cut small nicks into the adhesive so when you fold it at the back, it looks neater. This will also stop tearing when attaching the chain) You can then pierce a hole into the space where you want to thread your keychain through, be careful to make sure it is big enough to thread the first link through. Next, you will need the pliers to pry the link open and thread a link through the hole to attach the chain. You will need to be patient as it's quite fiddly. After the link is successfully threaded, close the hole using the pliers and the job is done!
