There’s one thing I don’t get. Why did Riku turn on Sora so easily, when later games show he loves him at least as much as Kairi?
So a few things that are really important to keep in mind when considering Riku’s actions:
1) He was only fifteen in the first Kingdom Hearts
2) He is incredibly insecure
Riku’s character arc has always been about proving himself. Consistently he has impossible standards set for him, either by others or himself. Think about this: When Terra came to the Destiny Islands, Riku was five years old. Five, and then he’s told that his entire world is only one part of a larger universe and is tasked with a weapon designed for protecting the balance of that universe. That is a lot to put on a literal five year old, one who already is thinking far too much about the future. (Strength to protect what matters. They’re not even in elementary school and Riku is already concerned with being strong enough to protect Sora, and later Kairi.)
So Riku grows up waiting for that day. He knows he will leave his entire world behind. He knows he will inherit a keyblade. Or, in his mind, the keyblade. He thinks that there is only one, and that he was the single person in the universe chosen to wield it. Of course he’s going to grow up with an incredibly skewed perception of himself. He is special, he is destined for greatness. By the time we reach Kingdom Hearts, Riku is cocky, narcissistic, and desperate to follow his destiny.
So through the ten years of believing he is unique in the universe, he also builds himself up as a protector for his friends. Kairi is a small, fragile girl in his eyes (and to be fair, she plays the part, but that’s a discussion by someone else). For Riku, she’s the perfect base for his persona. He protects her and impresses her the way boys and girls are supposed to, she’s the princess and he’s the knight. It’s more in an older brother sense than a romantic one, according to Kairi’s VA. We can peg the reason he pretends to be interested in her romantically as just messing with Sora.
Now for Sora. They’re best friends, for sure, but Riku has a weird way of showing it when we first meet him. They’re not equal at that point in his life. There’s a huge power imbalance, and that’s exactly how Riku wants it. His attitude towards Sora is called a downward comparison. He boosts his own confidence and self esteem by looking at Sora and assuring himself that he is stronger, faster, smarter, wiser. However, as he reveals in KH2, we know that he’s been quite jealous of Sora’s bright outlook and sociability, implying that despite Riku’s (frankly aggressive) projection of his own self, he still was unsatisfied with who he was.
The points of the last couple to paragraphs were to say this: Riku thought he was destined to protect the universe with the keyblade. Riku thought he was better than his friends, and needed Sora (and arguably Kairi) to be inferior to him. Riku thought his friends needed him.
Riku thought he was destined to protect the universe with the keyblade: Sora gets the keyblade.
Riku thought he was better than his friends: Sora shows he is perfectly capable (maybe even more so than Riku) on his own in Traverse Town.
Riku thought his friends needed him: Sora appears perfectly happy traveling with Donald and Goofy.
Can you see how quickly that resentment would build? To him, this is a betrayal. He’s looked after Sora his whole life and now Sora is throwing all that aside, on top of stealing his destiny. Combined with Maleficent manipulating him, the influence of darkness, and later Ansem’s hold, Riku is drowning in negativity. He’s fifteen years old, he’s lost his home, his friends, his destiny, and the easiest way to deal with that is to get angry. As far as he is concerned, Sora is his enemy now.
Excuse me! I couldn't help noticing a post saying Shiro and Keith spar sometimes. What do they practice? When did they start?
[The Voltron Family] Shiro had been called by the president of the hospital and people kept patting him on the back with huge smiles while saying “Congrats, man! Didn’t know you were like that!” and some were giggling as he passed by.
Shiro was confused. As soon as he got a go signal to enter the office of the president, he hoped all would soon make sense.
Shiro: Doctor Ferguson, you asked for me?Dr. Ferguson: *turns around* Ah, Dr. Shirogane. The man himself. *smirks*Shiro: *nervous* Um, did I do something?Dr. Ferguson: In fact you did, kid. You’ve been the talk for quite sometime now around here. Especially your fellow residents. Pretty sure you’re aware of your popularity here since you started this year. *smiles* Quite a fanclub you’ve got, huh? It’s been a while since we’ve had that much buzz around someone.Shiro: *still confused* I… I don’t think I get what you’re trying to say.Dr. Ferguson: *raises eyebrow* *chuckles* Alright, hotshot. You do know that this is a professional field and you’re a professional neurosurgeon. So you walking around the hospital with hickeys is a bit… let’s say not a good thing.Shiro: *eyes widens* *stammers* W-What?Dr. Ferguson: It’s alright. That’s normal. I get it. You’re young, you have your needs but you’ve been like a walking advertisement for the past few days. I heard Dr. Cheng say that she’d like to book a night with you to see how wild you truly are in bed. *laughs*Shiro: *sputters* Oh.. oh my god. *falls down to the chair* Oh my god. Dr. Ferguson: *chuckles* *sits on his table* Hey, just next time try to ask your girlfriend not to be so intense and make sure not to leave love marks on visible places. Quite a possessive one you’ve got, huh?Shiro: *rubs his temples* No, no, no, Doc. They’re all wrong. It’s all a big misunderstanding. *sighs*Dr. Ferguson: Now, c’mon. No need to be ashamed. Shiro: *laughs nervously* I’m not. I swear I’m not. Plus, it’s not a girlfriend. I… I have a boyfriend.Dr. Ferguson: *taken aback* I apologize for assuming. Shiro: It’s fine. *smiles* I used to think I was only into girls until I met Keith, my boyfriend. *smiles fondly to himself* He’s just so amazing and just… perfect.Dr. Ferguson: I can see that. *points at Shiro’s hickeys* Shiro: *spots his marks* *mortified* Holy shit. They’re not hickeys either! Dr. Ferguson: Care to elaborate then?Shiro: *chuckles* Well, um… you see, um. *chuckles nervously* I recently found out that Keith wasn’t kidding around that he was a black belt. So I thought, why not try it out? Self defense would really come in handy. Keith didn’t want to at first because of my busy schedule but I insisted. So… *sighs loudly* I’ve.. I’ve been training in martial arts with my boyfriend for the past week and you can tell from my bruises that he—Dr. Ferguson: *laughs so loud* Bruises?!Shiro: *deflates* Yes. Bruises, not hickeys. *mutters to himself* I wish they were though.
The next day Shiro visited Keith’s place for another training session, he told him what everyone assumed about Shiro’s bruises.
Keith: *eyes widens* WHAT?!Shiro: *scratches nape* Yeah, everyone thought we were having wild sex or something. Funny, huh? *laughs nervously* Keith: *suddenly pins Shiro down with so much force on the floor* *grab Shiro’s collar* Funny? *fake laugh* Very, very funny, Takashi.Shiro: *sweats* Are… are you mad?Keith: *twists Shiro’s arm* Am I?Shiro: *is in pain* *screams* OH MY GOD. YES, YOU ARE MAD. Keith: *sighs* *flips Shiro around to face him* *shuts eyes* I’m not mad. Shiro: *panting* Really? Could’ve fooled me, babe.Keith: I’m sorry. It’s not your fault. I know it’s mine. I’ve been too hard on you. I’ll try not—Shiro: —to leave hickeys on me? *smiles innocently*Keith: *flips Shiro again*
Somewhere outside Keith’s room…
Keith’s neighbor: *hears Shiro screaming* *winces* God. There they go again. They need to keep it down. No need to brag about their wild sex. *covers ears*
All this Sokai or Soriku talk, but is Sora even in a place where he can consent to a relationship? His time in the pod between 1 and 2 had to have left him with some developmental delays. He lost, like, a year of mid teens growth.
I definitely think so. After all, Sora’s adventure itself makes Sora mature beyond his age and we see that KH2 Sora is a grown up version of KH1 Sora before DDD Sora just fucking destroys everything lololol.
But yeah, he was 15 in KH2, he apparently was 16 in DDD and tbh, he should be 17 in KH3 to have the Keyblade war occur 13 years after the last one, and at that age, he’s plenty able to consent, especially since puberty hits everyone differently, some hit it early and are ahead of their peers for quite a while, some catch up only at the end, both physically and emotionally.
I think the way he interacts with Riku and Kairi also shows his mental maturity. I’m immediately thinking of two situations here:
1) The way he handled his departure from Kairi at the end of Blank points, asking her permission and thus respecting her feelings whereas in KH1, he just told her to stay behind regardless of them
2) The way he handled Yen Sid naming Riku master while he himself didn’t become one.
So while he’s goofy and funny and sassy, I totally believe that Sora matured and I also believe that he has the emotional maturity to consent to a relationship.
Look on the bright side! Even if Apollo dies, Zeus could probably just deify a mortal to take his place. I'm sure he wouldn't have done something so reckless if he didn't have a backup. Still, it'd be sad if his kids lost their dad.

Slave AU; Zack and the firsts buy Cloud from his hometown.
When the news of the Jenova clones broke, ShinRa put it in as good a light as they could. The Clones weren’t experiments...they were attempts to save people who had been exposed to mako, the monsters in the reactor tanks were too late to be saved. Somehow...it worked. People accepted the story. Most of the clones were too far gone to remember their families, but towns accepted them. Some tried to rehabilitate them, with some success. Other towns...found uses for them.
Claudia Strife had died before she found out what happened to her son...and Nibelheim wasn’t sure what to do with him. He was given room and board at the inn...and then they found Cloud tended to do what was asked of him. Didn’t complain, sometimes needed explanation, but was a good worker. He didn’t need pay so long as he was cared for, so they earned a silent handyman. For the first two years he was treated well...it started to devolve after that. Cloud didn’t complain when he was yelled at or hit, so that became another use for him. In the end, Tifa, the innkeeper and one of Ms. Strife’s former neighbors became the few people who would take care of him, wrap his wounds and speak kindly to him.
When the monsters came, the SOLDIERs followed. The native Nibelhiemers didn’t want to risk their own lives, so Cloud had the job of guiding them. Both Zack and Sephiroth had seen clones like Cloud before, but they treated him kindly. They’d seen some who could respond to questions and Cloud could grunt an affirmative and shake his head. Zack cracked a joke and Cloud snickered quietly. It was a lot more than they had seen from other clones. They didn’t like the bruises and scars they saw, but Cloud refused to acknowledge them.
Both ended up having to protect Cloud from the dragon, but outside of some singed hair it ended fine. They spent three days up in the mountains all together. Zack spent some time trying to teach Cloud some Gongagan sign language (courtesty of Gramps Fair) with some success. Cloud admitted he didn’t like living at Nibelheim and Zack was surprised to hear Sephiroth offer to help remove him. Cloud shook his head.
When they returned, Zack and Sephiroth had to wait for the villagers to decide how to pay them. Zack and Sephiroth very subtly dropped hints that they appreciated Cloud. Cloud’s few caretakers were horrified when Cloud was sold like an object...until they saw how the SOLDIERs treated him. Tifa watched Zack teach Cloud how to sign goodbye and almost cried. Cloud was terrified, until Sephiroth ruffled his hair a little awkwardly.
“We have a place for you,” Sephiroth said.
“And we’re buds now, right?” Zack said.
Cloud nodded in affirmative.
Please consider drawing; Vanitas redemption. I mean after 10 years in Sora’s heart that has to take care of some rough edges.
I may draw something like that for the FFXV x KH AU! @paopunova had some really awesome ideas about stuff Vanitas would do while Sora suffers from the Starscourge... It’s SO GOOD.
