Visual Snow Syndrome Simulator
(Mild flashing/flickering warning! Awareness is important but please prioritize your safety.)
This simulator is not perfect and is missing some of my visual disturbances, but this is pretty close to what I see every day (yes, even when I close my eyes; VSS occurs 24/7).
For me, the static gets worse in low or high lighting, blinking leaves afterimages, colored orbs flicker vaguely, and I also experience constant headaches, sensory overload, DPDR, etc. There are numerous symptoms of VSS, which you can learn about here.
If you want to try the simulator yourself, it can be found on the same website. Please be aware that some devices cannot handle the heavy graphics load, so it is only recommended for desktop. With that being said, here are the settings I used to achieve this visual effect:
There is a huge lack of awareness about Visual Snow Syndrome, including among doctors. The condition is understudied, which means people like me have to accept that there are relatively zero treatment options available. There are organizations trying to help though, such as the Visual Snow Initiative. You can learn more on their website. No, this is not sponsored (VSI is a nonprofit) and I'm not affiliated with the organization either. I'm just a person with VSS who wants people to know and care about my condition. Thank you for reading! :)
