Ok, so litteraly I want to say this just to get it out there.
Be that friend that doesn’t eat, say, or use someone else’s sensory trigger when there around
It could be as small as a certain food but it is so nice when someone doesn’t use something around you to give you a break
For example, I have one to gum and mint which makes walking around in public a living hell. And I’m too afraid to ask my friends to not use that around me because it’s so bad. To the point where I can’t even type it out without getting tense. I can deal when it’s just random strangers, but when I am hanging around someone I really like it’s takes a bit of effort bit to run out of the room.
And when I tell people they get all pissed at me for being ‘dramatic’ or being weird.
I want to tell y’all that if you can please please PLEASE be that person who gives people like me a break so we can relax even if just for a second.
Sensory issues are very real and effect people a lot more than you think. It’s a lot more then just a pet peeve. With certain tricks I’ve learned how to lessen the effect but it still effects me on the daily.
This is not to say that every time you need to do this, but if someone if having a particularly bad day maybe just give them a break.
Thank you so much for everyone who does do this for me and doesn’t judge, you’re a godsend.
Also, please don’t think you’re a bad person if you have used triggers around people without knowing, you’re not a bad person
