Why Aren’t Millennials Buying Diamonds? — The Economist
For most normal humans it seems nothing in the world would be as natural and pleasurable as eating pho. And yet, for baby boomers, it seems a totally foreign experience.
Studies show that Baby Boomers aren’t eating pho. Questions directed to them on their habits yielded answers like, “are you pronouncing that correctly?” and “I have no idea what that is” and “why can’t we just have a nice Christmas, for once?” Their concerns about the holiday season aside — is their non-pho preference because they’re xenophobic? Is this just another piece of proof that baby boomers are an embarrassment? Is it because they’re lazy and entitled? Probably, but let’s look deeper at this lost generation.
Oona, a 26 year old, sheds light on the problem explaining that, “baby boomers love destroying things, whether it’s local Vietnamese soup shops, the economy, or the housing market.”
When asked how she thought Baby Boomers might respond to delicacies, she replied, “They would probably be less inclined to opt for a broth based soup and more inclined to hurl the bowl against the wall while claiming that America must be made great again. By that, they mean having America revert to a time where they would not be called racist for owning actual slaves.”
Why of course. Lets cut off the poorest and most indebted generation so that the wealthiest generation can go on a few more luxury cruises... its not like this new generation is gasping for air under all their debt and pushing all their resources towards obtaining financial freedom or anything important like that... but by all means lets cut them off to fend for themselves... the generation who is trying to revolutionize commerce by becoming more self reliant purely out of the fact that they can’t afford mass produced products and need to find ways to provide basic necessities and small luxuries via DIY. These kind of articles just shows how selfish of a generation raised us millennials (to be fair i think I’m right on the cut off so i may be Gen X) and it is a miracle that we as a generation are as community minded as we are. I think it is mostly because we have seen multiple examples of what not to do. We also have grown up watching people be selfish because they had the opportunity and financial freedom to do so. They were not as encumbered with debt and had “real jobs” with salaries that could support vacations and houses. Now there are articles like this encouraging a selfish generation to revert back and continue in their selfish nature. Meanwhile, millennial are forming communities to help support each other. Sorry for the long post, but when i open a new tab and this is the news headline under the search bar it just makes me angry... what is wrong with supporting your kids while they slowly build a life for themselves. Its your family.
So I saw this picture. Allow me to fix the 2000s block:
I’m growing up and living in a crippled economy courtesy of a previous generation that mercilessly blames problems they themselves created on my generation. I am going to be in debt for years just to get an education that not only could and should be free but is supposed to lead to jobs that no longer exist (again, courtesy of a previous generation). My friends feel threatened simply walking down the street because of their sexual orientations and gender identities. Nazis are making a comeback and the president is a racist, sexist pig that can’t keep his hands off women. Speaking of women, we’re expected to be silently subservient to men or we’re “bitches” and “feminazis.” POC are still being discriminated against. My entire generation is depicted as being obsessed with cellphones and social media when half the time it is our only way of contacting friends or relatives or just relaxing because we’re all too poor to travel in the first place. Healthcare and sanitary items such as pads and tampons are seen as “luxury items” and not a basic human right. And as for becoming offended, I’m not sure how to tell you any more subtly and tactfully that you should care about other people.
A long time ago I saw a screenshot of a Tumblr post discussing millennial hate. I can’t find it now, but I recall a sentence that summed the entire millennial situation up nicely:
“WE ARRIVED LATE TO THE PARTY AND WERE SERVED CRUMBS.”
Prove me wrong but I think Stranger Things would have been better written if the Duffer brothers were Gen X
lowkey do not fuck with millennials
shamelessly wearing 90s hairstyles and pretending i came up with them for the sole purpose of pissing off millennials.
I’m loving the wave of millennial hate so here’s my biggest gripe.
I will never forgive Millenials for making Glee such a big hit. That show doesn’t deserve rights now and didn’t deserve them in the past.
