Just wanted to pop by and say that I really love "Invictus." You've given such thought and detail to a world that's so different, but feels so familiar. Hayden—the complexity you've given him, specifically—is wonderful. He feels right at home in a Hayffie world. (Honestly, I just love all of your writing. I've sent you, like, ten prompts in my lifetime just to keep reading it.)

That’s really cool, Amaya! Honestly, I think TWS was so good that it changed/opened a lot of perceptions. I already loved Natasha in “The Avengers,” but, likewise, it was TWS that made me really think about her character.

Yeah... it's weird about how perceptions of fandom can change like that.

Speaking of which (continuing our conversation out here because I'm lazy)... is something going on with Rocketshipping this week?

millsqueen this is going to get kinda long, so I'm posting it in an actual post.

(For those of you who are curious, Maggie didn't realize that I didn't used to care for Natasha as a character in the MCU, and she wanted to know when/why that changed.)

I have vague memories about how I got into the MCU in the first place.  It had to do with seeing The Dark Knight Rises (my first big superhero film) in theaters and shipping BatCat like crazy, and then remembering that my dad took me to see Iron Man 2 and that I kind of liked the main couple in that movie, so I found and read a few fanfics about them.

That couple, of course, was Tony/Pepper.  They were my main reason for deciding to explore the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I watched all of Phase One in order and then watched The Avengers no less than four times while I was sick with strep.  I immensely enjoyed it, but as far as fandom went, the only couple I was really invested in was Tony/Pepper.  Because of that, Tony and Pepper were the only characters that I was really interested in exploring.  This, of course, led to months of reading Iron Man-centric fanfiction.  I never really had any desire to read about any of the other Marvel characters.  I did try a Clintasha fic or two, but I got bored of those quickly and went back to Tony/Pepper.

Time went on.  I eventually fell out of the Marvel fandom and got sucked into Doctor Who.  I pretty much forgot about Tony/Pepper.

I was still interested, of course.  Iron Man 3 was everything I wanted, and I still wanted to see Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  But it was a superficial interest at best.

More time passed (I didn't end up seeing Thor 2 in theaters), and eventually me and a bunch of friends went to see CA:TWS.  

I was absolutely blown away.  

That movie completely changed my outlook on Natasha.  Suddenly she seemed alive, and interesting, and someone that I wanted to explore.  I still didn't actively ship her with anyone (yet), but that was the beginning.  That was when I re-entered the fandom from a completely different side.  I still look back on Tony/Pepper with fondness, but my time is now completely devoted to Natasha.
