So, the promos for The Rookie and Take Two are out. What do you think of those shows?
Truthfully, since all we have are a couple of minutes of teasers between the two, it’s hard to really form a true opinion of either show, because we didn’t really see either show. But I will say that some of my initial feelings/impressions about both have changed a bit.
For The Rookie, I initially had two concerns: 1) that it would feel like Generic Cop Show number 9 million, and 2) I was somewhat skeptical about “the love interest” casting call - not because of the age difference, but because the way TV Line (which, really, I should know better than to read) worded it made me concerned for the power dynamics in said relationship. However, I like Melissa, and the teaser at least made it seem much more equal than originally described, and the show itself seemed to have an intriguing set up. So I’m actually a bit more excited to see the show than I was before. Hopefully the relationship thing was either never as bad as TVL made it out to be (which wouldn’t shock me in the least), or AH and everyone involved listened to feedback and tweaked it. Plus, hot Nathan is Hot.
On the other hand, I’m a little less eager about Take Two than I was before. I’m not sure if it’s because I was too hyped, or because I’m kind of indifferent toward the leads, or if it just wasn’t a good look at the show, but I wasn’t over the moon excited by the teaser (and I wanted to be, too). With that said, it still looks like it could be really fun, not too heavy, and I’m going in more than ready to be drawn in and wowed by it. I only watch like 2 shows that aren’t on HGTV or the Food Network, so I’m ready to be convinced to enjoy something new (she says as she watches Fixer Upper reruns on HGTV).
Also, I won’t lie, I keep thinking about how Take Two could totally fit into the Castle-verse as Natalie Rhodes getting out of rehab - again - and her agent setting her up with her own detective/P.I. to ride-along with, a la what she observed with Castle and Beckett.
(Even though it’s not, it would be a cute/funny Castle fic if someone wants to write it for me, hint hint, haha.)
I don’t know if any of this makes sense, or if I just rambled at you for a few hundred words, but those are my thoughts!
